You can stream portrait (9:16) and landscape (16:9) video at the same time by using a platform’s built-in dual-format feature or by creating two outputs in streaming software. The best method depends on your destination, whether you need separate layouts, and the encoding capacity of your computer. Set up both views before going live, then test each one on its intended device.
Choose a dual-format workflow
First decide which platforms should receive portrait video, landscape video, or both. Then choose the workflow that supports those destinations and the layout control you need.

| Workflow | Best fit | Layout control | Important constraint |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube Live Control Room dual stream | Creators focused on YouTube | Built-in crop, fit-to-phone-width, or stacked options | Configure before the stream starts; encoder workflows use a second stream key for vertical output. YouTube Help |
| Twitch Dual Format with OBS and Aitum Vertical | Twitch creators already using OBS | Separate horizontal and vertical canvases | Enhanced Broadcasting is required; check hardware requirements and multitrack load. Twitch’s June 17, 2026 announcement says Dual Format is available to all streamers; check the dashboard for server-side transcoding eligibility. Twitch setup help |
| TikTok LIVE Studio dual layout | TikTok LIVE Studio users | Customizable portrait layout with synced sources | The orientations share scene sources; some widgets, including chatbox and ranking widgets, are unsupported in portrait. TikTok LIVE Studio Help |
| OBS plus Restream Vertical plugin | Creators routing different orientations to several services | Custom vertical scene in OBS | The vertical stream uses the main OBS audio mixer and inherits its encoding parameters, although a separate vertical bitrate can be set. For YouTube, the orientations are separate live events. Restream OBS guide |
| Restream Studio | Creators who prefer hosted production | Separate portrait and landscape previews, with shared overlays and graphics | Restream lists the feature for Professional plans and above; orientation is fixed for active channels during a stream. Restream Studio guide |
For YouTube alone, start with Live Control Room’s built-in option. For Twitch, use the documented OBS and Aitum Vertical workflow if your system meets current requirements. Choose TikTok LIVE Studio for its synced dual layout, or a Restream workflow when you need orientation-specific routing or a hosted studio. Compare whether layouts are independent or shared, whether the outputs become separate events, how audio is routed, and how much encoding work your computer must handle.
Prepare both versions before going live
- Choose destinations and orientations. Make a list of where each output should go and whether each destination needs portrait, landscape, or both.
- Pick the workflow. Use the platform’s native dual-format feature when it meets your needs. Choose an encoder plugin or hosted studio if you need custom scenes or different orientations for different destinations.
- Design and inspect both canvases. Keep faces, gameplay, captions, and alerts within the visible area of each aspect ratio. Do not assume a center crop will preserve the important action. Where available, inspect crop, fit-to-phone-width, or stacked layouts.
- Confirm routing and audio. Check stream keys, destination assignments, audio sources, and the orientation sent to each channel. YouTube encoder setups use a second key for the vertical stream; Restream’s OBS plugin uses the main audio mixer for vertical output.
- Check encoder capacity and platform eligibility. Enhanced or multitrack output can increase encoding load. Review the current requirements in your streaming software and platform dashboard; exact compatibility and eligibility can change.
- Test before the real broadcast. Use a private or test stream where available. View each output on its intended device and check framing, text safe areas, overlays, alerts, audio, destination assignment, and stream health. Twitch specifically recommends checking the vertical presentation on a mobile device.
Do not postpone orientation setup until after going live: YouTube says dual stream cannot be added once a stream has started, and Restream requires orientation assignment before going live.

Platform-specific setup notes
YouTube: Live Control Room or encoder
YouTube Live Control Room can create horizontal 16:9 and vertical 9:16 versions together. Its default vertical view is a center crop, but you can adjust the layout. If you stream through an encoder, YouTube documents RTMP(S) and a second stream key for the vertical output. Configure the dual stream before starting; it cannot be added to an active stream. See YouTube’s dual-stream instructions.
Twitch: OBS, Aitum Vertical, and Enhanced Broadcasting
Twitch’s June 17, 2026 announcement says Dual Format is available to all streamers. Its documented OBS setup uses Aitum Vertical with Enhanced Broadcasting. Check the Twitch dashboard for server-side transcoding eligibility and current system requirements before enabling enhanced output, since additional encoding can increase system load. Twitch says 70% of its new viewers were coming to the platform on mobile in its announcement; the page does not provide the underlying method or an independent source for that figure. See Twitch’s announcement and setup help.

TikTok LIVE Studio: synced dual layout
TikTok LIVE Studio’s dual layout sends portrait and landscape at once and syncs sources between the layouts. The portrait view is customizable, while landscape can be adjusted from the shared sources. Some widgets, including chatbox and ranking widgets, are removed or unsupported in portrait, so check the portrait preview before starting. TikTok’s help article was updated February 11, 2025: Use dual layout to go LIVE in portrait and landscape simultaneously.
OBS plus Restream Vertical plugin: custom scene and routing
The Restream OBS plugin lets you build a vertical scene in OBS and route vertical delivery to selected destinations while maintaining landscape delivery elsewhere. The vertical output uses OBS’s main audio mixer and inherits its encoding parameters, though you can set a separate vertical bitrate. Restream describes the two YouTube orientations as separate live events, so plan for their event and chat behavior accordingly. See the Restream OBS guide.

Restream Studio: hosted dual outputs
Restream Studio offers simultaneous 9:16 and 16:9 delivery with separate previews and orientation assignment, while overlays and graphics are shared between the views. Its documentation lists the feature for Professional plans and above, and says orientation is fixed for active channels during a stream. Confirm the current plan and channel options in Restream before relying on this workflow. See the Restream Studio guide.
Troubleshoot common dual-format problems
- Important content is cut off in portrait: A center crop may remove subjects or text near the sides. Adjust the vertical layout, reposition sources, or use a layout suited to phone viewing; inspect it on a mobile device.
- One destination gets the wrong orientation: Recheck channel assignment and orientation before going live. In hosted workflows, verify the selected orientation for each active channel.
- YouTube’s vertical output is missing: Check that dual streaming was configured before the stream started and, for an encoder workflow, that the second vertical stream key is set correctly.
- Audio is missing or differs between views: Inspect the audio routing and mixer. With Restream’s OBS plugin, vertical video uses the main OBS audio mixer; it does not have an independent mixer described in the guide.
- Encoding becomes unstable: Additional or enhanced outputs can raise encoder load. Check current system requirements and eligibility, then reduce the workload or use a workflow that fits your available hardware.
- A TikTok widget disappears in portrait: Chatbox and ranking widgets are among the widgets not supported in the portrait layout. Remove reliance on them there and verify the portrait preview.
- Layout changes are unavailable after starting: Some choices must be made before going live. YouTube does not allow adding dual stream after launch, and Restream requires orientation assignment beforehand; end and configure the next broadcast rather than assuming you can change it midstream.
Or let it run in the cloud
The methods above are for live camera, gameplay, or other real-time production. If instead you want uploaded videos to keep a YouTube channel live 24/7, StreamNeo is a different option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It does not stream from a camera or to platforms other than YouTube.
