The exact Wirecast controls vary by version, so confirm clip, playlist, and repeat options in your installed release.
Before you start
You need a YouTube channel eligible for live streaming, a prerecorded video file, Wirecast, and a reliable internet connection with enough upload bandwidth for your chosen output. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its general eligibility guidance sets a minimum age of 16 for streaming. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
Wirecast is the production and encoding layer: it plays and mixes your media, then sends a live feed. YouTube Live receives that feed and provides the event and watch page. Telestream describes Wirecast as supporting prerecorded clips in live productions, but the current menus, supported formats, and clip-end or looping behavior depend on the Wirecast version. Check the documentation for your installed version rather than relying on an assumed button name.
Set up the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create a new encoder stream or schedule one. Scheduling creates a watch page that you can share in advance and lets viewers set reminders.
- Open the stream settings. Copy the stream URL and stream key. When available, use the RTMPS address: YouTube’s encrypted version of RTMP. You can reveal the RTMPS address using the lock icon under Stream settings. YouTube explains its encoder setup at Set up your encoder for live streaming and RTMPS at Ingesting live streams using RTMPS.
- Keep the key private. Treat the stream key as a credential that allows a feed to be sent to your event. Do not share it publicly. If you believe it has been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the new key.
Add and cue the video in Wirecast
- Import the video file into Wirecast using the media or shot controls available in your installed version.
- Place or cue the clip as the program output. If you are building a sequence, verify how your version handles transitions and what happens at the end of each clip.
- Check playback before connecting. Confirm that the file plays with the expected picture and sound. If you need continuous playback, verify that your version supports the required playlist or repeat behavior; do not assume a clip will automatically restart.
Telestream confirms that Wirecast can mix prerecorded video into a live production, but its product information does not establish universal menu names, file-format support, or looping controls across releases. Consult the Wirecast help for your version if you cannot find the relevant media controls.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Configure Wirecast’s YouTube output
- Select YouTube as the destination if your Wirecast version offers a YouTube preset. Otherwise, enter the RTMPS stream URL and key copied from Live Control Room.
- Choose resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate together. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance to select the bitrate for the specific resolution and frame rate you will send. There is no single bitrate that is appropriate for every output.
- Set rate control to CBR and the keyframe interval to two seconds where Wirecast exposes those settings. YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Choose a supported video codec. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingest. Use a codec that your Wirecast version supports and that fits your production workflow.
- Prefer RTMPS for routine ingest. HLS is available for particular technical requirements, such as HDR or codecs not supported over RTMP, but YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency. A standard prerecorded-video stream usually does not need HLS.
YouTube transcodes live video for playback on viewers’ devices. Set Wirecast to send a reliable source quality for your connection rather than choosing the largest output simply because it is available. Review YouTube’s encoder settings before going live because recommended bitrate values depend on output resolution and frame rate and may change.
Test the feed and go live
- Check upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends running a speed test and leaving enough stable upload capacity for the selected stream settings.
- Test representative content. Play the actual video—or a section with similar motion and audio—and check that both picture and sound reach YouTube.
- Start sending from Wirecast. Start the encoder output and wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room.
- Inspect the preview and stream health. Confirm the correct video and audio are present and resolve any warnings before proceeding.
- Click Go live in Live Control Room** for a scheduled event. Starting Wirecast sends the feed, but a scheduled event does not necessarily become publicly live until you start it in YouTube. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand; these are preparation recommendations, not platform requirements. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
End the broadcast and check the archive
- In Live Control Room, click End Stream.
- Stop the output in Wirecast so it is no longer sending the feed.
- Check the event in YouTube Studio afterward. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its stated automatic-archive rule does not cover streams longer than 12 hours.
Copyright, policies, and monetization
Having a video file does not necessarily give you the right to broadcast it. Before streaming, confirm that you own or have permission to use the video, music, and any other material in it. YouTube’s live-streaming rules and copyright policies apply to prerecorded material too. A claim, restriction, or takedown can affect the broadcast or channel. Check YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and the platform’s current copyright guidance before using third-party content.

Permission to stream a video and eligibility for monetization are separate questions. A stream being technically accepted does not guarantee that it can be monetized or that it complies with YouTube’s reused-content policies. Review the current YouTube Partner Program and monetization rules for your channel and content before relying on ad revenue.
Troubleshoot common problems
- No preview in Live Control Room: Confirm Wirecast is actually sending, then check that the destination URL and key match the event. Use the RTMPS address when available and verify the encoder’s connection status.
- Preview appears, but the scheduled broadcast is not public: Go to Live Control Room and click Go live when you are ready. The encoder starting does not by itself start every scheduled event.
- Video stutters or stream health reports problems: Check upload stability, lower the output resolution or frame rate if the connection cannot sustain it, and select the bitrate YouTube recommends for that output. Test again with representative motion.
- Audio is missing or out of sync: Check the clip’s audio in Wirecast before sending, confirm the correct audio is included in the program output, and inspect YouTube’s preview. Test the full playback path rather than only the source file.
- The clip stops at the end: Confirm the end-of-clip and playlist behavior in your Wirecast version. Looping is not established as a version-independent feature, so test the sequence before the event.
- YouTube rejects or interrupts the feed: Recheck the event’s stream URL and key, ensure the channel remains eligible, and review Live Control Room for warnings or policy restrictions. Reset an exposed key and replace the old key in Wirecast.
