Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To stream prerecorded lessons around the clock, send a continuous video feed from an encoder to YouTube Live. You can run the encoder on a computer with OBS, or use a cloud service so a computer at home does not have to stay on. To avoid repeated black frames, first establish whether the interruption is at lesson transitions or caused by an unstable stream connection: those are different problems, and YouTube’s connection guidance does not establish a universal OBS setting that fixes playlist handoffs.
How the 24/7 lesson stream works
YouTube receives a live feed from an encoder. The encoder can be software on a computer or standalone hardware; a cloud-hosted service is another way to run the feed without keeping a dedicated PC online. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes the workflow and notes that enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

- Enable live streaming on your YouTube channel and wait for activation if this is your first stream.
- Choose a local encoder or cloud service, and prepare the lesson video or playlist.
- In YouTube Studio, create or open the live stream and copy its server URL and stream key.
- Enter the URL and key in the encoder, set video and audio output, then start sending the feed.
- Check the Live Control Room for stream health and preview the output before relying on a long-running broadcast.
Treat the stream key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your live stream. Do not publish it or include it in screenshots. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
Set the feed to match YouTube’s recommendations
YouTube’s published encoder values below apply to RTMP/RTMPS ingest; YouTube recommends RTMPS. They are configuration guidance, not a guarantee that a particular computer or internet connection can sustain the stream. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the current recommendations.

Use a resolution and bitrate your upload connection can sustain. YouTube recommends running a speed test, doing a representative preflight with similar audio and motion to the intended lessons, and monitoring stream health and messages during the broadcast. YouTube detects incoming encoder settings in the Live Control Room and transcodes the feed into viewer output formats.
Make lesson transitions less likely to show black
A black interval exactly where one lesson ends and the next begins is not automatically a connection problem. OBS’s dropped-frame guidance addresses unstable connections and bitrate, while YouTube’s encoder and stream-health documentation covers ingest and configuration—not a guaranteed fix for playlist handoffs. The available official guidance does not establish a particular OBS checkbox or transition as a proven cure for black frames between media files.
- Build a short test playlist using the same files and playback/loop arrangement planned for the live stream.
- Watch the actual encoder output through several lesson boundaries. Check whether black appears only between files or also during a lesson.
- Inspect the media source’s playback and loop behavior and how the playlist advances. Adjust the source or handoff only after reproducing the issue in the controlled test.
- Check the YouTube preview and stream health during the test. If the feed is healthy but black appears at every file boundary, focus on media playback and handoff rather than changing bitrate alone.
- Run a longer preflight before committing to a continuous schedule; a single successful transition does not prove every file will hand off cleanly.
This is a diagnostic process, not a documented universal OBS recipe: results depend on the OBS version, source type, playlist method, and media files.
Choose local encoding or cloud hosting
YouTube recognizes software and hardware encoders, and its verified encoder page also lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams. That listing is not evidence of YouTube ownership, endorsement, or tested performance. The practical distinction is where the encoder runs and who maintains the continuously available feed.
| Approach | What stays responsible for the feed | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder, such as computer software | Your computer, encoder, power, and internet connection must remain available. | You control the local setup and can inspect the encoder directly; you also own the work of keeping the machine and connection running. |
| Cloud encoder/service | A service runs the feed from its infrastructure rather than your home computer. | It reduces dependence on a home PC being on; playlist controls, service costs, and troubleshooting tools depend on the provider. |
The documentation establishes these broad categories, not a reliability ranking or detailed feature comparison between providers. If you use a local setup, test playback and connection stability before leaving it unattended. If you use a cloud service, confirm that its workflow supports your lesson files and YouTube stream key.

Diagnose black screens and stream interruptions
Black appears exactly between lesson files
If the stream remains connected and the black interval coincides with file boundaries, inspect the source’s playback, loop, and playlist handoff behavior. Reproduce the transition in a controlled test and observe the encoder’s output. Current official guidance cited here does not identify a universal playlist setting that eliminates this symptom.
OBS reports dropped frames or a yellow/red connection indicator
OBS says a rising dropped-frames counter and a yellow or red connection indicator point to an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Check upload stability and reduce the configured bitrate or output quality to a sustainable level, then retest. This signal points to a connection issue; it does not by itself explain a black interval limited to lesson boundaries. OBS guidance: OBS Help Portal.

YouTube reports a configuration issue
Use the Live Control Room’s stream-health messages to identify encoder configuration warnings. YouTube’s LiveStreams API distinguishes health states: good means no warning-or-worse configuration issues, ok means no error-level configuration issues, bad means one or more error-level issues, and noData means YouTube has no health information. The API also exposes configuration issue details: LiveStreams.
The stream stops after a long run
YouTube states that encoder streams lasting under 12 hours are automatically archived after sending stops. That is an archive behavior, not a promise that a single live event can run indefinitely without interruption. Plan how you will monitor and restart the encoder or create the next broadcast if the stream ends.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you use HLS for this?
HLS is a YouTube ingest option for high-quality or high-resolution streams where higher latency is acceptable; it is not a general-purpose fix for black frames. It has stricter encoder requirements than a simple playlist workflow: HTTPS, a persistent connection, one encoded stream, muxed audio and video, H.264 or HEVC video, AAC audio, and closed GOP. HLS segments are typically 1–4 seconds and must not exceed 5 seconds. Because HLS is segment-based, its latency is generally higher than RTMP/WebRTC. See Google’s HLS ingestion requirements.

Copyright and lesson content checks
Only stream material you have the rights and necessary permissions to broadcast. A lesson recording may contain music, images, video clips, or other material whose rights differ from the presenter’s. Check licenses and permissions for the full recording and playlist before scheduling a 24/7 broadcast. YouTube may apply its copyright policies to live content, so a technically healthy encoder does not establish that a stream is authorized or eligible to remain available.
