For an all-day broadcast, schedule or create the live, add YouTube’s stream URL and key to the encoder, preview the feed, and keep the encoder and internet connection running while you monitor it. YouTube’s guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not establish that longer streams are prohibited or guarantee that they will be archived.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned broadcast. YouTube also sets a minimum age of 16 for live streaming. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and its encoder setup guide.
- A recording or playlist of classes, plus an encoder capable of sending that feed. YouTube describes encoder streaming as the route for computer or hardware-based production, but does not prescribe a universal PC specification for prerecorded playback.
- Reliable upload internet and, if you are broadcasting locally, power and a computer that can remain on. Test the actual connection at the bitrate you intend to use; an optional UPS can help with local power interruptions, but YouTube does not require one.
- Permission to use every element in the recording, including the teacher’s video and voice, music, slides, illustrations, and embedded clips.
YouTube describes the encoder’s role simply: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.”
Set up the all-day class stream
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming controls and complete any verification or activation steps. If this is the first time the channel has streamed, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Prepare the class feed. Load the recording or playlist into your encoder. Set the output to match the source and your connection’s capacity; use the encoder’s preview to confirm that both picture and sound are correct. YouTube’s cited setup guidance does not specify one required resolution, frame rate, bitrate, or computer model for prerecorded classes, so do not treat a generic preset as a universal requirement.
- Create or schedule the live. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. Scheduling can give viewers an upcoming event to find and a reminder option, depending on YouTube’s settings.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream’s Live Control Room settings, copy the stream URL and stream key. Enter them in the encoder’s server/URL and stream-key fields. A stream key lets the encoder send the feed to your YouTube account; treat it like a password and do not share or publish it.
- Check the incoming feed before starting. Start the encoder’s connection and wait for YouTube to show the incoming video in the Live Control Room preview. Check the event and watch page, picture, sound, and class order. YouTube recommends setting up ahead of time and testing a backup encoder where one is available; see YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Start and supervise the broadcast. Start the live from the controls when the preview is ready, then monitor the feed throughout the day. YouTube recommends that total stream bitrate fit within available upload bandwidth and advises leaving 20% headroom. That is a recommendation, not protection against an ISP outage, power loss, encoder failure, or interruption by YouTube. More YouTube live-streaming tips cover network reliability and quality checks.
- End the session deliberately and check the replay. Stop sending content from the encoder when you intend to end the stream, then confirm the live has ended in Studio. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its cited encoder guidance does not promise an archive for a longer broadcast, so check the live replay and archive status rather than relying on a long session to save automatically.
Plan the session length and replay
“All day” is an operating plan, not a promise of uninterrupted service. YouTube’s encoder guide establishes automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, but does not state in that guidance that streams longer than 12 hours are forbidden or that they will be archived. If the class replay matters, decide in advance whether to use shorter sessions and verify each resulting archive in Live Control Room. Confirm current behavior there before depending on a long broadcast or replay.
For a locally run encoder, continuity depends on the computer, encoder, power, and network staying available, as well as YouTube accepting the feed. Preview before launch, keep someone responsible for monitoring audio and video, and have a recovery plan for a dropped connection. A backup encoder may be useful, but YouTube’s advice to test one does not guarantee failover.

Check copyright and YouTube policy
Rights apply to the whole lesson
YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide use of live content, including music rights, and to comply with applicable laws. For an Indian channel, that general clause is not a legal conclusion about your specific materials or obligations in India. Check the rights for the teacher’s recording, background music, slides, artwork, and any third-party clips before broadcasting. See YouTube’s livestream terms.
Content ID can interrupt a licensed stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may replace the live video with a placeholder and warn the creator to stop; continued use can lead to interruption or termination. YouTube also says a license alone may not prevent interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Resolve that workflow with the rights owner before the stream, as described in YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Live format does not guarantee monetization
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. The platform expects original, authentic content and says repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible under its inauthentic-content policy. A schedule of lessons should provide genuine educational value; being live does not by itself make it eligible to earn revenue. For monetized channels that enable live ads, pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled, while mid-rolls can be automatic or manual; ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies and its live-stream monetization guidance.
Troubleshoot common failures
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is unavailable | The channel is not verified, has a recent live-stream restriction, or first-time activation is still pending. | Check channel eligibility and complete activation in YouTube Studio. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time enabling. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | The stream URL or key was copied incorrectly, or the encoder is not connected. | Copy the URL and key from the correct Live Control Room event, enter them in the encoder’s matching fields, and check the preview again. Keep the key private. |
| The picture or audio breaks up | The total bitrate may exceed available upload bandwidth, or the connection may be unstable. | Check the encoder output and network, reduce the stream bitrate if needed, and leave the recommended 20% bandwidth headroom. Monitor audio and video after the stream begins. |
| The live is interrupted over music or a clip | YouTube’s live scanning has detected third-party content, or the channel has not been allowlisted by the rights owner. | Stop using material without appropriate rights. If you hold a license, contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting; a license does not itself guarantee an uninterrupted live. |
| A long session has no replay | YouTube’s cited automatic-archive statement covers streams under 12 hours, not guaranteed archives for longer streams. | Check the live’s status and archive in Studio. For future broadcasts where replay matters, plan sessions under 12 hours and verify each replay. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If keeping a computer and home connection running all day is the hard part, StreamNeo runs prerecorded YouTube streams from the cloud. Upload the class recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera. It supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. You still need the rights to the class materials and should check YouTube’s live and archive behavior.
