That works only if your TV can run the app and your plan includes the channels you want. If the app is not available on your TV, Optimum documents two other routes: an Apple TV with the Optimum TV app, or Optimum’s own Optimum Stream device.
What you need before you start
- A Smart TV connected to the internet, with access to its built-in app store.
- An active Optimum TV subscription. Channel and app access depends on your plan and account eligibility, and it can vary by area.
- Your Optimum ID and password. Optimum’s streaming FAQ says that is all you need to sign in on a supported streaming device or Smart TV.
- For full functionality of the Optimum app, a connection through an Optimum cable modem and a secured home Wi-Fi network. Optimum’s residential TV app terms describe this as the setup for full functionality.
Stream on a Smart TV with the Optimum TV app
Use this route if your TV’s app store lists the Optimum TV app. Screens differ by brand and operating system, so treat the sequence below as the general pattern rather than a fixed menu path.

- Connect the TV to the internet from its network settings.
- Open the TV’s app store and search for Optimum TV. If you cannot find it, search for the participating network app you want to watch and confirm it is the Optimum-branded version.
- Install the app and open it.
- If prompted to choose a TV provider, select Optimum TV or Optimum, whichever label the app shows.
- Sign in with your Optimum ID and password.
- Check that the channel or program you want appears in your lineup. If it does not, see the troubleshooting section below.
Stream with Apple TV
Optimum’s Apple TV setup guide documents the Optimum TV app on Apple TV, which makes it a practical option for a television that cannot run the app directly. The sequence is:
- Connect the Apple TV to power and to the TV with an HDMI cable. Optimum’s guide notes that the HDMI cable is not included.
- Turn on the TV and select the HDMI input the Apple TV is plugged into.
- Follow the on-screen Apple TV setup.
- Open the Optimum TV app from the Apple TV home screen and sign in with your Optimum ID and password.
When the app is missing or playback fails
The Optimum TV app is not in your TV’s app store
Optimum’s sources do not provide a complete, current list of Smart TV brands and operating systems that support the app. Check the official app store on your exact TV model before assuming it is available. Do not rely on a general claim that a brand, such as Samsung, LG, Roku TV, Fire TV, or Google TV, supports the app. If the app is not listed, use the Apple TV route or Optimum Stream.

Sign-in fails or the wrong provider is selected
Re-enter your Optimum ID and password exactly as they are on your account. If the app offers a provider list, choose the Optimum label. Choosing a different provider may show a different sign-in screen or no channels.
A channel or program is missing
Optimum’s terms say the app shows only the channels and content authorized by your service level and account status, and only those available through the app given technical and other considerations. Check that the channel is included in your plan and offered in your area before you assume a fault. A missing channel is usually an eligibility question, not a device problem.

Playback works at home but not elsewhere
Optimum’s terms state that some features and content may be limited when you are away from home. Expect a narrower set of options outside your home network, and do not assume that every feature, including On Demand or DVR-related functions, behaves the same on every device.

Before buying hardware, confirm three things: whether you already own a compatible device, whether the Optimum TV app appears for your exact TV, and whether your plan and area include the channels you want.
