You can stream on YouTube with a co-host using YouTube’s native Go live together feature: the host starts from a mobile phone and invites one guest at a time with a link. If several people must appear on screen simultaneously, use an encoder-based production setup and a separate remote-guest tool whose current YouTube support and participant limits you have verified.
Choose a format based on how many people should appear at once

YouTube also supports mobile and webcam streaming; its getting-started guidance lists console streaming as another route. Check eligibility before planning the broadcast
- Your channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- First-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available, so enable it well before the event.
- YouTube says streamers must be at least 16 years old.
Check the current eligibility details in YouTube Help. If the channel is not eligible yet, resolve that before inviting guests or scheduling the event.

Set up YouTube Go live together
- Choose whether to schedule or start now. To schedule, open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room on a computer and create the event. The host still starts the guest broadcast from a mobile phone. To start immediately, use the YouTube mobile app’s live-creation flow.
- Enable Go live together and add stream details. Set the title, audience and other event details before inviting a guest.
- Create and share the invitation link. Send it to the guest privately. The guest accepts on a mobile device and enters the waiting room.
- Check the guest before bringing them on. Confirm their audio and video while they wait. When ready, add them to the live broadcast.
- Manage the on-screen guest. You can rotate guests, but only one guest appears at a time. YouTube’s default orientation is vertical, so check the composition before the event if framing matters.
- End or transition deliberately. If changing guests, make clear to viewers who is joining next and confirm the outgoing guest is no longer on screen before continuing.

Prepare guests, moderation and policy responsibilities
The host channel is responsible for what guests say and show, and YouTube attributes ads on Go live together broadcasts to the host channel. Before sharing the invite, explain the topic, timing, expected conduct and how you will handle interruptions or policy issues. Decide who will moderate chat and who can remove a guest if needed.
YouTube says the host should ensure that guest content complies with its terms, Community Guidelines, copyright policy and other applicable policies. Pre-roll, mid-roll and post-roll ads can appear and are attributed to the host channel. Review YouTube’s guidance for Go live together and its copyright guidance before the event.

Use an encoder when you need a produced multi-person layout
An encoder workflow is appropriate when you need a director-controlled scene, multiple cameras, external microphones, screen sharing or gameplay. YouTube describes encoder streaming for these production needs, but does not define a participant limit for third-party remote guest tools. A producer should arrange the guest feeds in the chosen production system, then send the finished program feed through the encoder to YouTube.

- Select the encoder and production workflow. Choose computer software or a hardware encoder, plus any cameras and microphones the production actually needs. External hardware is optional, not a YouTube requirement.
- Create or schedule the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, create the stream and obtain its stream key and server details.
- Connect the production feed. Enter the YouTube stream details in the encoder and route the finished audio/video output to it. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access may be able to broadcast to the channel’s event.
- Set encoding to fit the connection and production. Choose the resolution and bitrate your encoder and upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s cited streaming guidance emphasizes that total stream bitrate must fit available upload bandwidth; it does not establish a single bitrate setting for every production.
- Preview and check the full program. Confirm that every guest is framed, audible and in the intended scene, and inspect YouTube’s Live Control Room preview before going live.
- Start with rehearsal time. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Use that time to test scene changes, guest audio, network stability and the event preview.
For a guest tool, verify its current simultaneous-participant capacity, whether it sends a finished feed or individual sources, and that it supports your YouTube encoder workflow. YouTube’s cited pages do not endorse a particular remote guest service or specify its limits.

Plan bandwidth and rehearsal time
YouTube recommends having upload bandwidth at least 20% above the total stream bitrate, leaving headroom for fluctuations. For example, if the configured stream bitrate is 10 Mbps, aim for at least 12 Mbps of available upload capacity during the broadcast. This margin is a planning recommendation, not a guarantee against network interruptions. Check the guidance at YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Test the actual venue connection at the time of day you will stream.
- Run a private or unlisted rehearsal where appropriate and inspect the YouTube preview.
- Ask each guest to use headphones where possible to reduce echo, and test their microphone level before joining.
- Keep a backup plan for a guest who loses connection: continue with the host, switch scenes, or bring in the next guest.
Common problems and fixes

Stream key and channel limits
YouTube’s live-stream guidance states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key. These are YouTube limits, not a promise that every channel will need or be able to use all available streams. Keep keys private and confirm the current details in YouTube Help.
