How to Stream on Twitch and YouTube at the Same Time

Twitch allows simulcasting under specific audience-experience and presentation rules. Here’s how to send a stream to Twitch and YouTube using a local encoder or cloud relay, plus the checks that prevent common failures.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Yes—you can stream to Twitch and YouTube at the same time. Twitch’s current Terms of Service allows simulcasting when you give Twitch viewers an experience at least as good as viewers get elsewhere, don’t direct Twitch viewers to the concurrent stream, and don’t display combined cross-platform activity on the Twitch stream. You can send video to both platforms from your own streaming setup or use a cloud relay.

What Twitch’s simulcasting rules require

Twitch’s Terms of Service, section 11, permits simulcasting to other services that support live streaming of user-generated content, subject to its conditions. Its standard is explicit: “You ensure that the quality of Twitch users’ experience of your Simulcast is, at a minimum, no less than the experience on other platforms or services, including by your engagement with the Twitch community, for example, via chat.” Read Twitch’s Terms of Service and check for any separate agreement that requires exclusivity; platform terms can change.

  • Keep Twitch’s experience comparable. Maintain your engagement with Twitch viewers rather than treating Twitch as a secondary feed.
  • Don’t funnel Twitch viewers elsewhere. Don’t use the Twitch broadcast or chat to actively encourage viewers to leave for the concurrent YouTube stream. Twitch’s Help FAQ allows neutral links identifying that you’re present on another platform, but that is different from directing viewers away.
  • Don’t show merged cross-platform activity on Twitch. Don’t use third-party services to combine other platforms’ activity on the Twitch simulcast—for example, displaying YouTube chat alongside Twitch chat on the Twitch stream. The Help FAQ’s allowance for personal-use tools to combine activity does not permit displaying that merged activity on the Twitch broadcast.
  • Check your own agreements. Twitch’s general permission does not override an exclusivity obligation you may have accepted separately.

The Terms of Service is the primary source for these conditions. Twitch’s Help FAQ offers supplementary clarification; its page may redirect, so verify the current terms directly before going live.

Choose how to send your stream to both platforms

There are two common approaches: encode locally and send feeds to both services, or send one feed to a cloud relay that distributes it. The better choice depends on your computer, upload capacity, desired control and number of destinations.

Approach What happens Best suited to Trade-offs
Local encoding Your computer encodes the video and sends it to Twitch and YouTube, using a compatible multi-output setup or tool. Creators who want more local control and have enough computer and network capacity. Your computer handles encoding. If it sends separate feeds, your upload connection needs capacity for their combined target bitrates.
Cloud relay Your computer sends one feed to a relay, which forwards it to Twitch and YouTube. Creators who want a simpler distribution setup, have limited local capacity, or plan to send to more destinations. The relay is an additional service, and its destinations, resolution, limits and costs depend on the provider and plan. Verify current terms directly.

YouTube describes local software or hardware encoding as a higher-control option suited to creators with a powerful computer; it describes cloud-service encoding as simpler and potentially useful for more than two channels. These are general distinctions, not guarantees about a particular service or setup. YouTube’s live encoder settings guide explains the options.

Local workflow with OBS or another encoder

Twitch documents software encoders such as OBS as a way to broadcast using RTMP and a platform-assigned stream key. A local multistream setup needs a compatible multi-output configuration or tool; the official platform guides do not certify a particular plugin, its version or exact multi-output steps. Treat third-party tools as independent software, and check that the version you choose supports your workflow.

  1. Prepare both destinations. Verify that your YouTube channel is eligible and live streaming is enabled. Sign in to Twitch and YouTube, then locate each platform’s stream settings. If your encoder needs them, obtain the RTMP server URL and stream key for each destination through that platform’s live control room or dashboard.
  2. Configure the encoder and destinations. Add Twitch and YouTube as outputs using your chosen compatible multi-output method. Enter each destination’s server details and key exactly as provided. Keep stream keys private; anyone who obtains one may be able to broadcast to your channel.
  3. Set video and audio once, then inspect each output. Choose settings your computer and connection can sustain on both services. Confirm that the tool is sending to both intended destinations and that audio is present.
  4. Test before a public broadcast. Where available, use a private or unlisted YouTube event to check the picture, sound and stream health. Confirm that Twitch is receiving the broadcast too.
  5. Go live and monitor both services. Watch YouTube’s stream-health alerts and keep an eye on Twitch chat so your engagement there remains comparable. If either output fails, stop and correct the destination settings or network issue rather than assuming the other feed is unaffected.

Cloud relay workflow

A relay changes the distribution path: OBS sends one stream to the relay, which sends it onward to each selected destination. For example, Restream’s own guide describes connecting Twitch and YouTube accounts, creating a stream with its RTMP encoder option, enabling both destinations, copying the relay key into OBS, and starting the broadcast from OBS. This is the vendor’s description of its product, not an independent performance test; interface labels and plan features may change. See Restream’s guide.

  1. Connect Twitch and YouTube to your chosen relay. Review requested permissions and confirm both accounts appear as destinations.
  2. Create a relay stream. Select an RTMP encoder workflow if using OBS, and enable both Twitch and YouTube as destinations.
  3. Copy the relay’s ingest details into OBS. Use the relay’s server address and stream key, not one of the destination keys, unless the provider’s instructions say otherwise.
  4. Test and start. Check the relay’s destination status and each platform’s stream health, then start the stream from OBS. A browser studio may be a separate option with different controls.

Cloudflare Stream documents a different relay pattern: create a live input and add destination outputs such as Twitch and YouTube. Its documentation states that one input can simulcast to up to 50 concurrent destinations; this is a Cloudflare Stream product capability, not a general limit for multistreaming. The page was last updated April 21, 2026. Read Cloudflare Stream’s live-input documentation.

Estimate the upload speed you need

If your local setup sends separate feeds, add the target bitrates together to estimate the stream’s total upload demand. YouTube’s example is a 6 Mbps feed plus a 4 Mbps feed, for a combined target of 10 Mbps. YouTube recommends available upload speed of 1.5 to 2 times that sum for stability—15–20 Mbps in that example—especially on a shared connection. This is YouTube’s recommendation, not a guarantee for every network or setting. Check YouTube’s encoder guide.

  • Run a speed test under realistic conditions, with typical audio and video movement and other household or office network use.
  • Allow headroom for network variation rather than treating a best-case speed-test result as dependable capacity.
  • For a relay workflow, your computer sends one feed to the relay instead of separately uploading a feed to each destination. The relay still needs to distribute the video onward; check its requirements and monitor its destination status.
  • Monitor YouTube’s stream-health alerts during the broadcast. A connection that passes a speed test can still encounter congestion, instability or dropped packets.

Preflight checks before you go live

  1. Enable YouTube live streaming early. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation takes at least 24 hours after you request it. Don’t leave this until minutes before a scheduled broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
  2. Confirm both accounts and destinations. Make sure you can access the right Twitch account and YouTube channel, and that you have selected the intended Twitch ingest and YouTube event or channel.
  3. Choose local outputs or a relay. Decide based on local encoding capacity, upload headroom, control needs and destination count. Check any cloud provider’s current destination limits, resolution, branding and pricing before relying on it.
  4. Protect keys and permissions. Paste stream keys only into the encoder or relay you intend to use. If a key is exposed, reset it through the platform’s account controls.
  5. Test the whole path. Check video, audio, stream health and chat on both services before the public broadcast. Verify that Twitch is not displaying combined activity from other platforms.
  6. Keep the Twitch experience in view. During the stream, engage with Twitch’s community and avoid directing its viewers to the concurrent YouTube stream.

Common problems and fixes

YouTube is not available as a destination

If this is your first YouTube live stream, activation may still be pending: YouTube says it takes at least 24 hours after the request. Confirm live streaming is enabled, select the correct channel, and check whether the relay or encoder is connected to the intended account.

One platform is live and the other is not

Check whether the failed destination is enabled in your multistream tool or relay. Recheck its server address and stream key, confirm the correct YouTube event is selected, and inspect that platform’s stream-health status. A successful start on one service does not confirm that the other received video.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The stream buffers or drops frames

For separate local outputs, recalculate the combined target bitrate and compare it with a realistic upload-speed test. Reduce the output demands if your connection or computer cannot sustain them, pause other heavy network use, and check platform stream-health alerts. A cloud relay can reduce the number of outgoing feeds your computer sends, but it cannot fix a poor connection between your computer and the relay.

Video or audio is missing on one destination

Check that the affected output is receiving the intended video and audio tracks, not just that the encoder reports a general connection. Inspect the destination’s preview or health indicator, then test the output privately or unlisted before resuming publicly.
