For a remote panel, have each speaker join the same Zoom meeting, build the program you want in OBS, then start OBS Virtual Camera and select it as the camera in Zoom. Keep the meeting host responsible for starting any Zoom livestream: a co-host can help manage the meeting but cannot start its livestream. First decide which direction your video needs to travel—OBS into Zoom, Zoom out to a public platform, or an OBS production into a Zoom Events webinar—because each uses a different path.
Choose the signal path before you set up
“Streaming with Zoom and OBS” can mean three different things. Choose the route that matches your audience and whether speakers need to interact:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- OBS into Zoom: OBS provides a composed video feed that Zoom receives as a webcam. This is the usual route when you want to use an OBS scene in an interactive meeting.
- Zoom out to a public platform: The meeting host starts Zoom’s livestream to an eligible, configured destination. OBS Virtual Camera is not what sends the Zoom meeting outward.
- OBS into a Zoom Events webinar: Zoom Events can accept incoming RTMP from third-party streaming software, subject to feature eligibility and configuration. This is a distinct webinar workflow, not a general replacement for the basic meeting setup.
Also decide whether a single finished program feed is enough or whether you need to arrange speakers individually. OBS’s Virtual Camera guide confirms that OBS output can be used as a webcam feed in Zoom; it does not establish that each Zoom participant automatically appears as a separate selectable OBS source.

1. Join the hosts to the Zoom meeting
Ask each remote host to join the meeting on their own device. The meeting host can promote a participant to co-host during the meeting if they need help with participant management or recording. Keep livestream start and stop responsibility with the host: Zoom says a co-host cannot start the livestream. See Zoom’s co-host guidance.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
2. Build and check the OBS scene
Create an OBS scene and add the sources needed for the intended composition. Choose a capture approach appropriate to your production; the Virtual Camera guide explains how OBS output is shared with webcam-capable applications, but it does not prescribe a way to extract each remote Zoom guest as an independent source. Check the finished composition in OBS before sending it to Zoom.
If you use Studio Mode, pay attention to which Virtual Camera output mode is selected. OBS offers Program, Preview, Scene, and Source modes. Program is the normal finished output; Preview can expose scene changes when Studio Mode is in use. Select the intended output and verify what it shows before the event. The OBS Virtual Camera Guide documents these modes and the start control.
3. Start the Virtual Camera and select it in Zoom
- In OBS, choose the Virtual Camera output mode you intend to send, then click Start Virtual Camera.
- In Zoom, open the camera settings and select OBS Virtual Camera.
- Check the preview in Zoom. If possible, ask another participant to confirm what they see; your local preview alone may not catch every framing or scene-selection issue.
OBS describes Virtual Camera as a way to share an OBS scene with applications that can use a webcam, including Zoom. See the official guide.

4. Route microphone and program audio deliberately
Video and audio are separate parts of the setup. Choose which microphone Zoom should hear and decide whether OBS program audio should also reach the meeting. OBS’s video-call tutorial covers audio routing between OBS and call software, including keeping audio intended only for a stream or recording out of the call. The precise virtual audio-device setup depends on the operating system and devices you use, so there is no single routing recipe that applies to every computer. Avoid monitoring the same signal twice, which can create echo or doubled sound; check the call with another participant before going live. See OBS’s video-call tutorial.
Send a Zoom meeting to an external livestream destination
If the audience should watch the Zoom meeting on YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, or a custom destination, check Zoom’s account and administrator settings before the event. Livestream availability depends on the account feature being enabled, the destination being allowed, and applicable license or administrator controls. For a custom destination, Zoom’s instructions provide for a configured stream URL and key; the meeting host starts the stream from the meeting controls.
- Ask the account owner or administrator to confirm that livestreaming is enabled for the account and that the intended destination is permitted.
- For a custom streaming service, configure its stream URL and key in Zoom’s livestream settings as directed by the account.
- Start the meeting livestream from the meeting controls as the host. Do not assign this start action to a co-host.
- Check the destination and meeting audio/video before relying on the public stream.
Use Zoom’s current instructions for streaming a meeting or webinar on a custom site and for enabling livestreaming. Account settings and administrator policy can affect what controls appear.

Use incoming RTMP for an OBS production in Zoom Events
Zoom Events supports an incoming RTMP option that can integrate scenes from third-party streaming software into a webinar. Zoom’s support page states that this feature requires Zoom app version 6.2.0 or higher. Confirm that your Zoom Events setup is eligible and configured for the feature before building the production around it; it is not the same as selecting OBS Virtual Camera in an ordinary meeting.

When an existing camera or switcher changes the setup
A studio that already produces a camera or switcher output over HDMI or SDI may need capture hardware to bring that program into the streaming computer. Zoom’s broadcast guide names Magewell USB Capture HDMI Plus for HDMI and Inogeni SDI2USB3 for SDI, and also lists a USB audio mixer. These are examples for an existing production system, not required purchases for a basic panel whose remote hosts join Zoom on their own devices.

That guide describes a broadcast configuration and explicitly cautions that “2-way communication is NOT possible with these settings.” The limitation applies to that configuration, not to ordinary interactive Zoom meetings or every way to livestream a Zoom meeting. If your production needs speaker interaction, plan separate displays, microphones, speakers, and suitable audio processing rather than assuming the broadcast feed provides two-way communication. See Zoom’s broadcasting-system setup guide.

Before the event
- Confirm whether you are sending OBS into Zoom, sending Zoom out to a public destination, or using incoming RTMP for a Zoom Events webinar.
- Verify livestream eligibility, destination settings, and any administrator controls in advance.
- Check the OBS scene and Virtual Camera output mode, then confirm the image in Zoom.
- Test the microphone, program audio, scene changes, and echo with another participant.
- Keep the host available to start the livestream.
If OBS Virtual Camera is missing or not working
Troubleshooting depends on your operating system. OBS documents Windows installation, macOS extension approval, and Linux considerations involving v4l2loopback. Follow the current OS-specific steps in the OBS Virtual Camera Guide, check that Virtual Camera is started in OBS, and reselect OBS Virtual Camera in Zoom. The available evidence does not establish a universal resolution, frame-rate, or simultaneous-host limit for this workflow, so test the actual setup rather than relying on a promised specification.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a prerecorded YouTube stream that stays live around the clock—not an interactive Zoom panel—StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and it streams to YouTube only. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on; it can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free with no card.

Copyright and YouTube channel rules still apply
Using OBS, Zoom, capture hardware, or a cloud loop does not grant rights to the video or audio you broadcast. Use material you own or are authorized to use, and review YouTube’s rules on copyright and reused content before scheduling prerecorded material. A technically working stream can still face platform restrictions if its content violates applicable rules.
For planning, StreamNeo offers a copyright safety checklist.
