Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo join compatible gaming VOD files in a chosen sequence on Ubuntu without re-encoding, put their paths in an FFmpeg concat list in the order you want, then run ffmpeg -f concat -i vod-list.txt -c copy joined.mp4. If the files have different stream characteristics, use the concat filter and re-encode instead; stream copy cannot reconcile those differences.
1. Check that FFmpeg is available
This workflow assumes FFmpeg is installed and available in your Ubuntu shell. Check with:

ffmpeg -version
If the shell reports that the command is not found, install FFmpeg using the package source appropriate for your Ubuntu release, then check again. The Ubuntu package version and enabled codecs depend on the release and build; verify them on the machine rather than assuming a particular version.

2. Put the VODs in the intended order
Create a plain-text file named vod-list.txt in the directory containing the video files. Add one entry per file, in playback order:

file 'gameplay-02.mp4'
file 'gameplay-03.mp4'
The order of the file lines is the order FFmpeg uses. An explicit list avoids relying on shell glob sorting, which may not match the intended sequence. If the recordings are in another directory, use their paths in the list.
3. Join compatible files with stream copy
From the directory containing the list, run:
ffmpeg -f concat -i vod-list.txt -c copy joined.mp4
The concat demuxer reads the list as one input, and -c copy copies the encoded streams to the output without decoding and re-encoding them. This is fast and does not introduce quality loss from a re-encode, but it works only when the files’ streams are compatible and the output container can represent them. FFmpeg’s documentation says concat-demuxer inputs need the same streams, including codecs and time bases (FFmpeg concat demuxer documentation).

- 【Compatible with Multiple Systems】suitable for Windows and Mac OS. High speed USB 3.0 technology and superior low latency technology makes it easier for you to transmit live streaming to Twitch, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, OBS, Potplayer and VLC.
- 【HDMI LOOP-OUT】Based on the high-speed USB 3.0 technology, it can capture one single channel HD HDMI video signal. There is no delay when you are playing game live.
- 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
FFmpeg options apply to the next input or output, so keep input options before the input they affect and output options after the inputs. The command above places the concat format and list before the output file. See the FFmpeg command-line documentation for option ordering and stream-copy behavior.

Inspect the inputs first
Gaming captures may differ in codecs, time bases, audio tracks, subtitles, or other stream details when they were recorded with different settings. Inspect each source and compare its streams before choosing a fix. There is no single safe normalization command for every group of VODs: the right output configuration depends on the actual video, audio, subtitle, and container details.

Use the concat filter when re-encoding is needed
When inputs cannot be joined by stream copy, use FFmpeg’s concat filter to combine decoded streams and encode the result to a consistent target format. Filters operate on decoded media, so this method requires re-encoding and cannot be combined with -c copy. Consult the FFmpeg FAQ on concatenating media files and the FFmpeg documentation to build a command that matches the actual streams. Choose output settings deliberately; converting every input to guessed settings can lose tracks or produce unwanted changes.
Do not substitute the concat protocol for ordinary MP4 or MKV files
The concat protocol joins files at the byte level and is suitable only for formats that support file-level concatenation. FFmpeg identifies MPEG-1, MPEG-2 program stream, and DV as examples; ordinary MP4 or MKV recordings should not be assumed to work this way. For media VODs, use the concat demuxer when streams are compatible, or the concat filter when re-encoding is required (FFmpeg concat protocol documentation; FFmpeg FAQ).

5. Prevent path and timestamp problems
Use safe, explicit paths
For a simple list, keep the files alongside vod-list.txt and use relative filenames such as file 'gameplay-01.mp4'. The concat demuxer’s safe-path rule accepts relative paths whose components use portable characters and do not begin with a period. For trusted local files outside those rules, -safe 0 can disable the check; do not use it with untrusted lists. Ordinary quoting handles many filenames with spaces, but unusual characters require care with concat-list syntax. Verify the exact paths and list formatting before running the command (concat demuxer documentation).
Check durations if later segments start incorrectly
The demuxer positions each file after the preceding file using its duration. If a duration is inaccurate—for example, because it was estimated—or an input is truncated, the resulting timestamps can cause artifacts or misplaced segments. FFmpeg allows a duration directive in the list to override a stored duration; use it only when you know the correct duration for that file (concat demuxer documentation).
6. Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg rejects the list or cannot open an input | A path is wrong, the list is malformed, or the safe-path check rejects a path. | Check the list’s working directory, spelling, quoting, and relative paths. For trusted local files that violate the safe-path rule, consider -safe 0; never disable the check for an untrusted list. |
| Stream copy fails or the output is unusable | The inputs do not have matching stream characteristics, or the target container cannot represent the copied streams. | Inspect the streams and container compatibility. Use a filter-based workflow with a deliberate, consistent output configuration if re-encoding is needed. |
| Segments have timestamp gaps, overlap, or other timing artifacts | A file’s duration metadata is inaccurate, or the file is truncated. | Check the affected input’s duration and integrity. If you know its correct duration, a concat-list duration directive can override the stored duration. |
| Files play in an unexpected sequence | The list lines are not in the desired order, or shell-generated filenames were sorted differently than intended. | Write and review the file lines explicitly; the list order determines the sequence. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a YouTube channel live with uploaded videos after preparing them, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded videos streamed to YouTube, not a live camera feed. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
