YouTube documents the ingest settings and encoder recommendations, but those sources do not establish a verified FFmpeg loop-and-recovery command or a restart strategy for a stream intended to run continuously. Confirm those implementation details before relying on a VPS for 24/7 operation—and confirm that you have streaming rights for every recording and composition in the playlist.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours.
- A VPS that can stay online and sustain the stream’s outgoing bitrate. Check the provider’s bandwidth charges, sustained-traffic rules, CPU allowance, region and service terms before choosing a plan; YouTube does not recommend a VPS provider or establish a suitable server size.
- FFmpeg installed on the VPS, plus the media files you are authorized to stream.
- A stream key and ingest URL from YouTube Studio. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your stream.
Technical ability to transmit a song does not grant the right to retransmit it. Check the rights for the specific sound recordings and musical compositions, territories, and intended use. Do not assume a standard music subscription allows live retransmission. The licensing position for a particular Marathi playlist depends on its rights holders and permissions.

- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room. If live streaming is not enabled, complete YouTube’s enablement process and allow for the possibility that it may take up to 24 hours.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In Live Control Room, locate the stream settings and copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Use the exact values displayed there; do not reuse a key from an unrelated broadcast.
- Choose the RTMPS URL where YouTube provides that option. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which protects the RTMP connection with TLS/SSL. Its implementation guidance describes port 443 and SNI/TLS considerations; use the endpoint YouTube gives you rather than guessing a host, port or URL.
- Keep the key out of public scripts, screenshots, logs and shared terminal histories. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting again.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API describes a live stream as an incoming feed that can be associated with one or more broadcasts, with primary and optional backup ingest addresses. That API model is useful for custom broadcast automation, but it is not a substitute for the creator-facing Live Control Room setup above.
Choose encoder settings for the actual stream
For an audio-led Marathi songs stream, the video output may be a still image or other visual accompanying the music. Set the encoder according to the output you actually send—not an assumed universal bitrate. YouTube’s encoder guidance, current page accessed October 3, 2026, lists these general requirements and recommendations:
#1 Best Overall
| Setting | YouTube guidance | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Video codec | H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1; up to 60 fps | Choose a codec supported by your FFmpeg build and compatible with your planned output and ingest setup. |
| Video rate control | CBR | Configure a constant bitrate for the video encoder when sending video. A steady output helps avoid bitrate swings; it does not guarantee that the VPS connection will be reliable. |
| Keyframes | Two-second interval recommended; no more than four seconds | Set the encoder’s keyframe interval to two seconds where possible. Confirm how your chosen codec and FFmpeg build express that interval. |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 | Use one of the listed audio formats and verify that the outgoing stream contains audible audio. |
| Stereo audio | 44.1 kHz; recommended 128 kbps | Use these as YouTube’s stated stereo-audio recommendations, not as a guarantee of sound quality or successful transmission. |
| Video bitrate | Varies by resolution, frame rate and codec | Select from YouTube’s settings for the exact mode. For 1080p at 60 fps, YouTube lists 17 Mbps for H.264 and 12 Mbps for AV1/H.265. |
The 1080p60 bitrates are YouTube recommendations, not measurements of what a particular VPS can sustain. Allow headroom for a stable outbound connection, and test the actual encoding configuration. A static image may use a different amount of video data in practice than moving footage, but do not lower settings blindly if YouTube’s stream-health indicators show a problem.
Configure FFmpeg on the VPS without guessing at a 24/7 command
YouTube documents the destination URL, stream key and ingest recommendations, but the available documentation does not establish a verified FFmpeg command for looping a Marathi playlist, handling transitions, reconnecting after failures or restarting a long-running broadcast. Those behaviors depend on your FFmpeg build, media formats and process supervision. Do not treat an untested command copied from a different setup as a reliable 24/7 service.

Before putting the stream into production, verify each of these implementation details against the documentation for the FFmpeg version installed on your VPS and test them with your own files:
- Input and playlist behavior: Confirm how the chosen input method reads every file, handles a missing or damaged file, and moves to the next item. Verify whether playback loops as intended and whether transitions or crossfades are actually supported by your configuration.
- Output mapping: Confirm that the command maps the intended audio and video streams, selects the codecs and rates you chose, and sends output to the exact RTMPS endpoint and key from Live Control Room. Never place a real key in a public example.
- Reconnect behavior: Determine how the FFmpeg process reacts to a dropped connection, and separately how it is restarted if the process exits. A reconnect option and an operating-system service manager solve different failure cases; test both rather than assuming either guarantees recovery.
- Process supervision: Decide how the service starts after a VPS reboot, how logs are inspected, and how duplicate FFmpeg processes are avoided. Confirm the service configuration on the operating system you actually use.
- Resource and traffic limits: Measure CPU use and outgoing traffic during a representative test. Check the provider’s sustained-bitrate policy and billing model; the YouTube bitrate recommendation alone cannot determine the VPS size or monthly cost.
Once those details are verified, keep the ingest URL and stream key in a private configuration or secret store rather than embedding them in material you share. Start the encoder only after checking that the intended broadcast is selected in Live Control Room.

Test the stream and monitor it
- Start with a short test using the same audio format, visual output, bitrate and playlist behavior planned for the live broadcast.
- Open the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room and check the incoming preview, audio and stream-health messages. YouTube specifically advises testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream.
- Listen to the stream from a separate playback device or browser. Confirm that songs play in the expected order, audio is present, levels are usable and the visual output is intentional.
- Watch the VPS process and logs during the test, and confirm that your supervision and reconnection behavior works under the failure conditions you expect. A green preview alone does not test process recovery or a VPS reboot.
- After correcting any issue, repeat the test. Do not assume that a successful short broadcast demonstrates that a much longer session, playlist loop or restart scheme will work.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not establish what happens to longer archives or prescribe an FFmpeg restart interval. A 24/7 plan therefore needs an independently verified approach to broadcast duration and recovery; do not infer a reliable 12-hour restart strategy from the archive threshold.
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube receives no stream | Confirm that the encoder is running, the URL and key match the selected Live Control Room stream, and the RTMPS endpoint is correct. | Re-copy the current values from YouTube Studio, check the VPS network’s outbound connection and TLS/SNI handling, then retry with a short test. |
| Connection fails or drops | Check the VPS network, provider traffic restrictions, destination and port, plus FFmpeg and service logs around the disconnect. | Use YouTube’s RTMPS endpoint and verify the connection details for the installed FFmpeg build. Test process recovery separately from connection recovery. |
| Video appears but audio is missing | Check that the intended audio stream is mapped, the source file has audio, and the output uses AAC or MP3. | Test a known-good file and listen to the incoming preview before restarting the full playlist. |
| Audio or video health is poor | Compare the chosen bitrate, codec, resolution and frame rate with YouTube’s recommendations. Check stream-health messages and VPS CPU/network use. | Test a supported setting combination and confirm the server can sustain the outgoing rate. Do not assume a codec’s recommended bitrate guarantees sufficient VPS capacity. |
| Playlist stops or repeats incorrectly | Check the playlist/input implementation, file paths, permissions and FFmpeg logs. Looping and transition behavior are configuration-dependent. | Test with a small representative playlist, including the last-to-first transition and any file types used in production. |
| Stream stops after a long run | Check process logs, VPS events, YouTube stream status and the broadcast’s duration. The under-12-hour archive rule does not document a restart policy. | Establish and test a recovery and broadcast-duration plan rather than assuming the encoder or YouTube will restart automatically. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If maintaining FFmpeg, a VPS and recovery behavior is more work than you want, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. The three steps are: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded content from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It does not stream from a camera or to platforms other than YouTube.
