You can send a continuous Indian folk music playlist to YouTube with OBS, but clear every recording and performance for live use first. Also plan for the replay: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a single 24-hour broadcast is not a reliable way to create a full archive. If you need replays, use shorter scheduled sessions and keep a local recording.
Before you build the playlist: clear the music rights
“Folk” describes a musical tradition, not blanket permission to broadcast a track. A traditional melody, a modern arrangement, a particular sound recording and a performed rendition can have different rights holders. Check the rights for the exact material you plan to use, including whether permission covers YouTube livestreaming, the territories where it will be available, and any replay or archive.
YouTube’s Livestream Terms and Conditions require the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation on Google services, including music licensing rights and applicable territorial approvals. If you use protected music, YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with the label or distributor. Keep written permissions available.
Licensing alone may not prevent a live interruption. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can trigger a warning, interruption or termination. Ask the rights holder or its administrator whether your channel must be added to its Content ID allowlist, and have that arranged where applicable. Territorial restrictions do not resolve the separate allowlist issue.

Plan the schedule around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube’s archive guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local archive backup. A single 24-hour broadcast therefore cannot be relied on to produce a complete replay.

Set up OBS to stream to YouTube
- Enable live streaming early. YouTube for Artists says first-time streamers should verify their account to enable livestreaming at least 24 hours before going live. Use the current YouTube interface rather than relying on older setup guides for account-specific screens.
- Assemble only cleared audio and visuals. Build the playlist from material covered by your permissions. Confirm those permissions include live use and, if needed, the archive. Prepare the title, description and visuals you intend viewers to see.
- Create a stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Open YouTube’s live control room and create the broadcast. In OBS, select YouTube if it is offered as the service, or enter YouTube’s Live server URL as directed by the current encoder instructions.
- Connect OBS with the stream key. Copy the stream key from YouTube Live Control Room into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the key like an account credential: do not publish it, show it in a screen recording or send it to anyone who should not control the stream.
- Set up the OBS scene and audio loop. Add the prepared media source or sources to a scene and arrange playback so the intended playlist can continue. Check that audio is being sent and that the on-screen visuals are correct. The exact source controls depend on how your media and playlist are organized.
- Start sending and inspect the preview. Start streaming from OBS, then confirm YouTube receives the feed and shows the expected preview and status before making the broadcast public. An unlisted test stream is prudent; YouTube for Artists recommends testing before the go-live date, especially for high-investment events.
- Monitor the live session. Watch OBS’s connection indicator and dropped-frames counter, and check YouTube’s live status. For a multi-session schedule, monitor each segment and start the next deliberately; do not assume YouTube or OBS will make a seamless handoff.
OBS settings and dropped frames
There is no single bitrate or resolution that is right for every setup: the encoder settings must fit both your intended output and the upload capacity of the connection. OBS says rising dropped frames can mean the connection to the server is unstable or cannot keep up with the selected bitrate. Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard for basic settings, then monitor the connection during a test and the broadcast.
- If dropped frames rise or the connection indicator turns yellow or red, reduce the selected bitrate or other output demands and check whether the upload connection can sustain them.
- If the problem continues, investigate the network rather than assuming a different OBS scene will fix it. A wired Ethernet connection is an option to consider, not a guaranteed cure.
- Run an unlisted test long enough to check playlist transitions, audio continuity, the YouTube preview and connection stability before announcing a longer session.
Why a folk-music livestream may be interrupted
Even a stream that begins normally can be affected by YouTube’s live matching. If YouTube identifies third-party content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn you, or temporarily interrupt or terminate the feed if the content remains. A prior license does not necessarily prevent that matching action when the channel has not been allowlisted by the rights owner.

Before going public, confirm permissions for each relevant recording, arrangement and performance, ask about Content ID allowlisting, and keep the written documentation accessible. No particular track’s rights status follows simply from its being Indian folk music.
