One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFirst compare a local OBS recording with the YouTube stream or VOD. If both are out of sync, troubleshoot the capture and production chain; if only YouTube playback is wrong, don’t assume the preview proves YouTube is at fault. Then determine whether the mismatch stays constant or grows over time: a measured, fixed offset may be corrected with a source delay, while progressive drift calls for checking device clocks, routing, and monitoring.
1. Find where the sync problem begins
Record a short local test in OBS using the same scene, audio devices, and capture path as the affected stream. Include a clear cue, such as a visible action paired with a sharp sound, or clap in view of the camera. Compare the local file with the corresponding moment in the YouTube stream or VOD. If possible, open the recording in an editor that displays its video and audio tracks separately.
- Local recording and YouTube playback are both out of sync: Investigate the OBS sources and the signal chain feeding them.
- Local recording is synchronized, but YouTube playback is not: Save the affected segment and compare the same point in another device or player if possible. This difference alone does not establish a YouTube-side cause.
- Only one sound is displaced: Check that source’s routing and delay rather than shifting all audio.
Keep the affected segment and an OBS log. Note your OBS version, operating system, audio sample rate, capture hardware, source routing, and whether the issue appears in the local recording, live playback, archived VOD, or more than one of them.
2. Identify whether it is offset, drift, or an intermittent problem
Constant offset
If the audio is early or late by roughly the same amount throughout the segment, measure the displacement in the recording or an editor. A fixed delay can align one source with the others; first establish which source is wrong and by how much.

Progressive drift
If the start is close to synchronized but the mismatch grows, a fixed delay will only correct one point. Inspect device timing, sample-rate configuration, virtual audio routing, the capture-device path, and whether OBS audio monitoring is the part that drifts. A monitoring-device clock or buffer issue is one possible explanation discussed in an OBS forum case, not a universal diagnosis.
Intermittent jumps or connection symptoms
Check OBS logs and network indicators if the sync changes alongside dropped frames or disconnections. OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the ingest server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. Its connection guide’s bitrate and network remedies target those symptoms; it does not identify bitrate changes as a direct audio-sync repair.

3. Adjust only the source that testing implicates
- Make a short baseline recording. Use the same scenes, capture devices, and routing as the affected stream, and mark a clear sync cue.
- Measure and describe the error. For example, note that the microphone is 120 ms early relative to the camera. Record whether the offset stays steady or grows.
- Open OBS Advanced Audio Properties. For a fixed audio-source offset, adjust that source’s Sync Offset. For a video source, a delay in that source’s filters may be the relevant control. OBS forum moderator guidance describes these as separate delay controls; choose based on which signal is displaced.
- Change one setting at a time. Record another short test and compare it with the baseline. If the result worsens, restore the prior value before trying another change.
- Check the beginning and end of a longer test. A setting that aligns the opening but not the ending suggests drift, not a single fixed offset.
Inspect each part of the signal chain: microphone, game audio, capture card, mixer, USB interface, virtual audio device, and monitoring route, as applicable. Confirm that the source is routed as intended and that its delay settings are consistent. If OBS monitoring is involved, monitor directly from OBS rather than using the YouTube player as your only reference.
4. Treat YouTube upload advice and OBS network advice within their scope
YouTube’s upload troubleshooting guidance says: “Make sure that the durations of your audio and video tracks are the same. If your audio track is shorter or longer than your video, your audio and video may not sync correctly.” It recommends editing the tracks before uploading. This is relevant when checking a local file’s track lengths, but the page addresses uploads, not a comprehensive diagnosis of livestream VOD processing.

OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide addresses dropped frames and connection instability. Lowering bitrate may be relevant when the logs show that the connection cannot sustain it; it is not a general sync adjustment. One forum report associated a bitrate change with sync returning, but an OBS responder questioned whether the change caused the improvement. Do not treat that coincidence as a reliable fix.
5. Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you observe | What to check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Audio is consistently early or late | Compare a local recording and identify the displaced source. | Measure the offset and adjust that audio source’s Sync Offset or the relevant video-source delay, then retest. |
| Audio starts aligned but drifts | Device timing, sample-rate configuration, virtual routing, capture path, and OBS monitoring. | Test the chain component by component; do not expect one fixed delay to correct the whole clip. |
| Only microphone, game sound, or capture-card audio is wrong | That source’s routing and per-source delay. | Correct the implicated source instead of shifting every audio source. |
| Sync trouble coincides with dropped frames or disconnects | OBS logs, network indicators, and whether the connection sustains the configured bitrate. | Use OBS connection troubleshooting for the network symptoms; do not assume a bitrate change directly fixes sync. |
| Local recording is synchronized but the YouTube VOD is not | The same saved segment in another player or device; retain the recording and OBS log. | Document the discrepancy. The available guidance does not establish a definitive YouTube-side cause or guaranteed post-stream repair. |
6. Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream running continuously, that is a different problem from diagnosing sync in a gaming capture chain. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded videos, not camera capture, so it is not a repair for an out-of-sync gaming VOD.
