How to Stream From vMix to Wowza Streaming Cloud (Now Wowza Video)

Connect vMix to Wowza Video using the stream-specific details generated in Wowza, then verify the incoming feed in the preview or status.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To stream vMix into Wowza, create a live stream in Wowza Video, choose the vMix input workflow if it is available, copy that stream’s generated connection details, and enter them in vMix’s streaming destination settings. Start the required Wowza workflow and vMix output, then confirm the incoming picture in Wowza’s preview or status. The service is commonly known as Wowza Streaming Cloud, but current official documentation calls it Wowza Video.

Choose the Wowza setup route

Wowza documents vMix as a supported input. Depending on the workflow shown in your account, you can select vMix for specialized connection assistance or configure vMix as a generic RTMP encoder. The available controls and labels may vary by workflow; use the values and instructions displayed for your own stream rather than assuming every account has the same screen.

Setup route What to expect When it fits
vMix input Wowza’s quick and custom setup documentation lists vMix as an input type and describes a specialized connection method. The workflow may show options such as region, source profile, recording, and push or pull behavior. Choose it when the vMix input option appears and you want the stream-specific connection assistance.
Generic RTMP encoder Use the RTMP encoder instructions and enter the connection information generated for your Wowza stream. The legacy encoder guide describes the URL format and connection fields. Use it when configuring vMix through a general RTMP destination or when following the RTMP workflow shown for your stream.

Wowza’s current quick and custom setup pages describe current workflows. Some connection instructions and interface details are explicitly marked legacy; treat their field formats as guidance, not as a guarantee that current screens use identical labels.

Create the receiving stream in Wowza Video

  1. Start a live stream setup. In Wowza Video, begin a quick live stream or a fully configurable/custom live stream. Choose vMix as the input type if the option is offered for that workflow. Wowza’s quick setup documentation, updated January 23, 2026, and custom setup documentation, updated December 13, 2024, list vMix among supported inputs.
  2. Choose processing and source settings. If the setup lets you select a processing region, choose one close to where the vMix stream originates. Match the input resolution or profile to the source you intend to send; Wowza says the input resolution affects the adaptive bitrate output ladder.
  3. Decide on start/stop behavior and other options. Review whether recording, autostart/autostop, and push or pull behavior fit your event before creating the stream. In documented quick and custom flows, RTMP autostart is enabled by default; when enabled, region selection is automatic and push/pull controls are hidden. Some settings, including autostart, cannot be changed after stream creation, so settle these choices during setup.
  4. Create the stream and open its details. Go to the stream’s Overview or source connection information and locate the generated connection values.

Copy the stream-specific connection details

Copy the endpoint and credentials shown for this particular Wowza stream. Depending on the workflow, the details can include a server or address, port, stream name or key, and source username and password. Do not reuse a sample address or another stream’s key: these values are generated for the individual stream.

ZowieBox, 4K HDMI NDI Video Encoder/Decoder, HDMI NDI
  • Compact but Powerful Design: ZowieBox is smaller than a phone, featuring a tally light and LCD screen for streaming status. Capture console gameplay in up to 4K with zero-lag HDMI passthrough, while the built-in video encoder converts video for IP streaming. The IP stream can also be decoded back to a 4K HDMI signal.
  • Standalone Game Streaming: Just plug and play—ZowieBox enables PC-free live gaming without affecting gameplay. As an RTMP hardware encoder and HDMI streamer, it delivers stable streaming directly from your source, making it ideal for gaming, live events, and professional broadcasting.
  • NDI|HX3 Converter Technology: ZowieBox converts HDMI signals to NDI|HX3/HX2/HX, functioning as an NDI video encoder, or NDI Video Decoder for flexible IP workflows. Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
  • UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
  • All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.

For context, Wowza’s legacy RTMP encoder guide describes a URL pattern of rtmp://[stream key].[primary server]/[application], a default RTMP port of 1935, and RTMPS on port 443 when the encoder supports it. These are format details from a legacy guide, not universal endpoint or credential values. Follow the address, port, and authentication information in your own stream details.

Enter the Wowza values in vMix

  1. Open vMix’s streaming destination configuration and select the appropriate custom or RTMP destination if needed.
  2. Map the Wowza-generated server/address, stream name or key, and any source authentication credentials into the corresponding destination fields. Use the port and protocol specified in your Wowza stream details.
  3. Check vMix’s documentation for your installed version if its field labels or destination choices differ. The Wowza setup documentation confirms compatibility and supplies Wowza-side connection information, but it does not establish a universal, current vMix screen-by-screen sequence.
  4. Confirm the vMix source resolution/profile matches the profile selected for the Wowza input. Avoid substituting credentials or endpoint values from generic examples.

Start the stream and verify reception

  1. Start the Wowza stream or workflow first if the selected setup requires it. Autostart behavior depends on the choice made during creation.
  2. Start vMix’s stream output to the Wowza destination.
  3. Open the Wowza stream details or preview/status and confirm that video is arriving. The legacy encoder guide says preview frames refresh every five seconds and a push connection can take up to ten seconds after service startup; these are observations for that legacy workflow, not timing guarantees for every current interface.
  4. Once reception is confirmed, monitor the Wowza preview/status as appropriate for the event.

Stop cleanly after the event

Stop vMix’s streaming output. Then stop the Wowza stream if your selected setup does not autostop. Whether Wowza starts or stops automatically depends on the settings chosen when the stream was created.

Troubleshoot a missing or unusable feed

  • Wowza shows no incoming picture: Confirm vMix is outputting to the intended destination, the Wowza workflow is started if required, and the endpoint, port, stream name/key, and any credentials were copied from this stream’s details.
  • The connection fails despite an apparently correct URL: Recheck that the selected input type and destination protocol match the workflow. If using RTMPS, verify that the encoder supports it and use the port specified by your Wowza stream details; the legacy guide describes port 443 for RTMPS.
  • The stream connects but output does not match expectations: Check that the Wowza input resolution/profile corresponds to the vMix source. Wowza notes that input resolution affects the adaptive bitrate output ladder.
  • Manual region or push/pull controls are missing: In documented quick/custom flows, enabling RTMP autostart can make region selection automatic and hide push/pull controls. Some creation settings cannot be changed afterward, so review the setup choices before creating a replacement stream.
  • The instructions do not match your interface: Wowza currently calls the product Wowza Video, and some pages are explicitly legacy. Follow the current workflow displayed for your account and use legacy pages only for the connection format or behavior they document.

StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the file as uploaded up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The Monthly price is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded video rather than going live from a camera.
