Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To play several prerecorded videos during one YouTube Live event, put them in sequence in your encoder or playout software and send that software’s continuous output to YouTube. YouTube receives one live audiovisual feed; it does not switch among local files inside that feed for you. OBS Studio’s VLC Video source can play a playlist in order and loop it, but neither OBS nor YouTube promises perfectly gapless transitions. Test your actual files and setup before going live.
What “YouTube Live playlist” means here
A YouTube channel or watch-page playlist groups videos for viewers to watch. It is different from a playlist used as an encoder’s input. For one continuous live event, your production software changes which prerecorded video is playing, combines its audio and video into one output, and sends that feed to YouTube.
Google’s API documentation distinguishes a broadcast—the event viewers watch—from a stream—the audiovisual content communicated to YouTube. Its recurring-event example reuses stream settings across broadcasts, with only one event live at a time in that example. This supports treating the feed and event as separate parts of the workflow; it does not document using a YouTube playlist to switch local videos inside one live event.
Set up an ordered playlist in OBS
1. Prepare and check the video files
Put the local media files in the order you want them to play. Check that picture and sound continue as expected at each boundary, including the end of one clip and start of the next. Differences in audio level, format, or timing can become noticeable when playback changes files.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Add a VLC Video source
- Install VLC on the computer running OBS. OBS says its VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed; the source will not appear without it.
- In OBS, open the scene that should carry the prerecorded videos and add a VLC Video source.
- Add the media files to that source’s playlist in the desired order.
- Leave shuffle off for a fixed sequence. Turn on Loop Playlist only if you want the sequence to begin again after the last item.
OBS’s official Media Sources documentation describes VLC Video as a playlist-capable source and lists its playback controls and supported file types. A playlist feature controls file playback, but does not establish that transitions are frame-perfect or free of a blank frame or audio pause.
3. Connect OBS to the YouTube event
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule the live event.
- Choose an encoder workflow and copy the event’s stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings.
- Start streaming from OBS, then check the Live Control Room preview to confirm YouTube is receiving the intended output.
- When the preview and event settings are ready, start the event in YouTube Studio. Keep OBS running as the playlist advances between files.
YouTube Help’s Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder explains the encoder workflow using a server URL and stream key. YouTube also recommends testing and previewing a stream and monitoring its quality. Its recommendation to use professional-grade hardware encoders is for higher-production events, not a requirement for this OBS playlist method.

Test transitions before the live event
Run the entire sequence in a private or unlisted test if appropriate. Pay particular attention to each file boundary: watch for a blank frame, frozen picture, unexpected delay, or audio pause, and confirm that the next item starts as expected. Test the actual media and computer configuration you intend to use; documented playlist playback alone cannot guarantee a zero-gap result.
- If a gap appears, inspect the transition and media compatibility in the playout setup rather than assuming YouTube can remove it.
- Confirm the encoder remains connected and running while one item ends and the next begins.
- Switching between separate YouTube live events is a different workflow; it does not establish seamless playback between files within one event.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded videos playing on YouTube without leaving a home computer running, StreamNeo runs the uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a live camera feed.
