You can’t send an RSS feed directly to YouTube as a live stream. Instead, use RSS to discover podcast episodes, a separate automation or playlist layer to queue media you’re allowed to rebroadcast, and an encoder to send continuous audio and video to YouTube. The workflow can run around the clock, but you must test its episode handling, recovery and connection before relying on it unattended.
How the RSS-to-YouTube setup works
An RSS feed is a way to publish and discover episode updates; it is not a video input that YouTube can play as a live stream. The feed reader, media player and encoder each have a separate job:
- RSS reader: detects episode entries and their media enclosure URLs.
- Queue or playlist automation: stages playable episodes in the order you choose and decides what to do when the queue is empty or an item fails.
- Encoder: combines the episode audio with a video track and sends the resulting continuous program to YouTube.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API uses a liveStream resource for incoming encoder data and a liveBroadcast resource for the viewer-facing event. Its documentation gives a 24/7 feed as an example and describes using the same incoming stream for a continuous broadcast and a separate interview broadcast. That is an API example, not a promise of uninterrupted uptime. YouTube Live Streaming API: Life of a Broadcast
What you need before setup
Confirm YouTube live-stream eligibility
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. It also says the operator must be at least 16 years old. Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room before building the workflow; platform requirements and account status can change. - Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Confirm rebroadcast rights
An RSS URL does not grant permission to rebroadcast an episode. Confirm that you may stream, download or stage each episode, and that your rights cover included music, clips, guests and other third-party material. If your permission is limited to podcast distribution, ask the rights holder before using the material in a YouTube live stream or archive.
Choose where media and automation will run
Decide whether the feed reader, episode files, player and encoder will run on a computer you control or in a hosted environment. The official YouTube documentation explains the broadcast and encoder side, but does not prescribe an RSS polling or playlist-rotation service. Evaluate that automation separately: it should detect new episodes, handle unavailable enclosures, preserve your chosen order and define what happens at the end of the queue.

Build and test the stream
- Choose a feed-to-queue workflow. Select or build a feed reader that detects new entries and stages the permitted episode media. Decide whether new episodes join the end of the queue, take priority, or wait for manual approval. Set a clear end-of-queue behavior, such as replaying a permitted playlist or showing a holding slate; do not leave this undefined.
- Make media available to the player. The player needs access to playable episode files or enclosure URLs. If you keep local or hosted copies for reliability, do so only when your rights allow downloading and storage. Plan for a temporarily unavailable enclosure, a removed episode and a changed feed.
- Create an audio-and-video program. Pair the podcast audio with a visual track, such as artwork or a branded scene. YouTube’s encoder and API documentation describes an audio-video stream, so an audio-only enclosure should not be assumed to work as a live input by itself. YouTube Live Streaming API: Getting Started
- Create the YouTube broadcast and encoder input. Set up a broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room or through the Live Streaming API, then configure your encoder with the ingestion details YouTube provides. The API can provide a primary and optional backup ingestion address. Keep the stream key and other ingestion credentials private; anyone who obtains them may be able to send video to your channel.
- Connect the player to the encoder. Configure the player or scene to pass the queued episode audio and visual track into the encoder, then start the encoder and verify that YouTube receives a clean preview before making the broadcast public. OBS is one software-encoder option, but it does not by itself provide RSS episode discovery or queue scheduling. OBS: Dropped Frames and General Connection Issues
- Run an end-to-end test. YouTube recommends testing a livestream, checking the preview, verifying the watch page on channel and mobile, checking any local archive and monitoring audio and video quality. For a 24/7 feed, also test an episode transition, an empty queue, an unavailable episode, an encoder restart and an internet outage or failover before leaving it unattended. These extra checks are operational precautions, not automatic YouTube recovery features. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming
Choose a continuous broadcast or separate events
A single continuous broadcast suits a radio-style channel that keeps one live watch page active. If you also run distinct programs, YouTube’s API documentation describes binding the same incoming stream to multiple broadcasts, including a continuous feed and a separate interview event. For recurring shows that overlap or need different settings, separate stream resources may be more appropriate. Choose the structure that matches how you want viewers to find each program; a continuous feed does not guarantee that every episode will be available as a separate on-demand video. Keep an unattended stream reliable
Monitor the connection and encoder
A 24/7 setup depends on the host, player, encoder and network continuing to work. OBS says rising dropped-frame counts and a yellow or red connection indicator point to an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Watch those indicators during testing and operation; a stream that looks fine briefly may still fail over a longer run. OBS: Dropped Frames and General Connection Issues

Plan restart and alert behavior
Decide who or what detects a stopped player, failed download, encoder crash or network outage. Test that the process restarts and resumes from a sensible point, rather than silently skipping episodes or remaining offline. YouTube recommends ongoing audio and video monitoring, but its documented 24/7 example is not an uptime guarantee.
Use equipment appropriate to the job
YouTube says expensive equipment is not required to get started and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. For a straightforward podcast loop, first determine whether an existing computer and software encoder can meet your uptime needs. A dedicated hardware encoder is an option when production complexity or operational requirements justify it, not a prerequisite for a basic stream. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube receives no video: Check that the encoder is running, the correct broadcast and ingestion details are selected, and the program includes a video track as well as audio.
- RSS updates do not appear in the stream: Check the feed reader’s polling and enclosure handling, then confirm the new file was added to the player’s queue. YouTube does not read the podcast feed directly.
- Playback stops between episodes: Review the queue’s end-of-item behavior and test what happens when an enclosure is unreachable or the playlist is empty.
- Connection warnings or dropped frames increase: Check network stability and whether the configured bitrate is sustainable. OBS identifies those symptoms as signs of connection instability or an unsustainable bitrate; reduce load or improve the connection, then test again. OBS: Dropped Frames and General Connection Issues
- The stream cannot start: Check the channel’s verification and restriction status in Live Control Room, confirm the broadcast and encoder configuration, and make sure the stream key has not been changed or exposed.
- An episode is removed or challenged: Recheck your rebroadcast rights and the status of the episode’s music and other included material. Remove or replace content you are not authorized to use.
