To stream a speedrun archive continuously on YouTube Live, create a live stream in YouTube Studio, send its stream URL and private stream key to an encoder, then configure the encoder to play your recordings in sequence or on repeat. A local encoder requires a computer and internet connection to stay available; a cloud service can run the feed remotely. First confirm you have the rights to rebroadcast every game and every separately controlled asset in your recordings.
Before you start: channel access, footage rights and a backup
Check that your channel can go live
YouTube’s stated requirements, as checked on October 3, 2026, include a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube also states that users must be at least 16 to live stream. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements for the current rules.

Clear each game and each recording asset
“Speedrun” and “archive” do not by themselves grant permission to rebroadcast footage. Check the applicable publisher policy for every game, and separately check rights for music, commentary, overlays, clips or other material controlled by someone else. Capcom’s policy, last updated March 15, 2021, permits specified uses of Capcom game footage, including speedruns, subject to its conditions; it applies to Capcom-owned IP only and says third-party content must be cleared with the relevant rights holders. It is not permission for other publishers’ games or a blanket clearance for everything in a recording. Read Capcom’s video policy and the terms that apply to your own footage.
Keep your own copy of the stream
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive. Do not rely on a single 24/7 broadcast as the only copy of your runs. If each run should be separately findable, publish and describe those recordings independently rather than assuming one continuous stream archive will do that job. Set up the continuous YouTube Live feed
- Create or select a stream. In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live, then create or select the live stream you intend to use. YouTube’s encoder workflow is documented in Set up your encoder for live streaming.
- Connect your encoder securely. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream into the encoder’s corresponding server/URL and key fields. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in screenshots.
- Load the archive and set its playback behavior. Add the speedrun files in the order you want them shown, then configure the encoder or playback tool to advance through them and, if desired, repeat the list. YouTube’s instructions explain how to send an encoder feed; they do not specify how a particular encoder handles playlists or looping. Check the chosen software’s documentation and test the transitions, end-of-list behavior and restart behavior before relying on it.
- Match stream quality to your connection. Use YouTube’s encoder settings recommendations for resolution, bitrate and keyframe settings. Choose a bitrate your available upload connection can sustain; a high setting that causes dropped frames is worse than a lower, stable feed. Prefer RTMPS when the encoder and ingest option provide it.
- Run a preflight. If appropriate, test privately or unlisted before the public broadcast. Check picture, audio levels, transitions between files, whether the loop behaves as intended and the stability of the connection. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health.
- Start sending and monitor. Start the encoder’s output, confirm the incoming feed in YouTube’s Live Control Room, and then start the broadcast as required by the selected stream setup. Keep an eye on stream-health notices and the encoder’s dropped-frame indicators while it runs.

A local setup gives you direct control of the machine, files and recording, but it depends on that machine and its connection remaining available. A cloud approach avoids leaving a home computer running, but check that the service’s current terms and playback behavior fit your use. Troubleshoot common continuous-stream problems
Dropped frames or an unstable stream
OBS identifies increasing dropped frames as a sign that the connection is unstable or cannot sustain the selected bitrate. Reduce the output bitrate to a level the available upload connection can maintain, check the connection and encoder health, and retest before resuming a long broadcast. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance and OBS guidance on dropped frames explain the relevant indicators.
The next recording does not play or the list stops
The YouTube ingest workflow does not configure a playlist for you. Check the encoder or playback tool’s file ordering, repeat setting and behavior at the end of a list. Test transitions and a full pass through the playlist before going live.

The stream key is exposed or the wrong feed appears
Keep the key private. If it is exposed or another feed is arriving, use YouTube Studio’s stream controls to replace or reset the key, then update the encoder with the new key before sending again. Verify the server URL and selected stream as well as the key.

Check the stream’s duration. YouTube warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so retain a separate copy of the recordings and any required local capture rather than treating YouTube’s automatic archive as the backup.

A rights claim or restriction appears
Review the affected game publisher’s policy and identify separately controlled material in the recording, such as music or third-party clips. A policy that permits certain footage from one publisher does not settle the rights for other games or assets. Do not assume a continuous replay is exempt.
Present the archive clearly
Describe the broadcast as a continuous archive or replay where that helps viewers distinguish recorded runs from a live attempt. The cited YouTube guidance does not establish a general requirement to use a particular “pre-recorded” label for every such stream, but an accurate title and description help set expectations.
