RadioDJ handles automated music playout; YouTube’s Live Control Room supplies the server URL and stream key the encoder needs. The reviewed RadioDJ materials do not document a native YouTube Live destination, so plan on this encoder bridge rather than a direct RadioDJ-to-YouTube connection.
What you need before setting up the station
- A Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC that meets RadioDJ’s listed baseline of a 1 GHz CPU and 8 GB of RAM. RadioDJ’s feature page lists .NET Framework 4.8 for RadioDJ v2 and later; its home page separately says 4.7+ for v2, so check the requirement for the version you install. - RadioDJ installed, an audio library ready to use, and rotation rules configured.
- A separate encoder that can capture the PC’s RadioDJ audio output and send it to YouTube Live. The cited RadioDJ and YouTube documentation does not prescribe a particular encoder or universal Windows audio-capture configuration.
- A YouTube channel able to access Live Control Room and a stable internet connection with enough capacity for a continuous broadcast.
- Permission to broadcast every track and other audio in the playlist, including any required rights-holder Content ID allowlisting.
Configure RadioDJ AutoDJ
- Install the RadioDJ version you intend to use on the Windows host and check its version-specific system requirements.
- Add your audio library and organize tracks into categories, subcategories or genres that fit your station.
- Configure RadioDJ’s rotation rules, including any intervals you want to use to avoid repeating a track, artist or album.
- Enable AutoDJ and select automated mode so RadioDJ advances through the playlist without waiting for manual input. RadioDJ’s FAQ says AutoDJ generates the playlist using the configured rotation rules; assisted mode, by contrast, stops after each file. RadioDJ FAQ
- Use a test run to confirm that tracks load and advance as expected. RadioDJ also documents scheduled events and manual or automatic playlist advance among its features. RadioDJ feature list
Route RadioDJ audio through an encoder
RadioDJ plays audio through a Windows-supported sound device. The practical arrangement is to keep that playback output on a Windows audio device and configure a separate encoder to capture it. This is an architecture based on RadioDJ’s audio-device support and YouTube’s encoder workflow, not a prescribed configuration verified for every Windows system or encoder.

- Choose an encoder that supports YouTube’s live ingest workflow and can capture audio from your chosen Windows device.
- In the encoder, select the device or audio source receiving RadioDJ playback. Device names and capture options vary by Windows setup and encoder, so do not assume a particular input label or routing method.
- Start RadioDJ playback and check that the encoder’s audio meter moves. Listen to the encoder preview, if available, to verify that it contains the expected program audio and is not silent, distorted or mixed with unwanted system sounds.
- Keep the test private or unlisted if your YouTube setup offers that option, and confirm the YouTube preview receives the correct audio before making the broadcast public.
Connect the encoder to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create or select a stream; YouTube also documents scheduling a stream there, which can provide a watch page and reminders ahead of the event.
- Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key shown for the stream into the encoder’s streaming settings. The URL tells the encoder where to send the feed; the key associates it with your YouTube stream. YouTube encoder instructions
- Treat the stream key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to send content to your channel.
- Start the encoder, then check the Live Control Room preview and stream status. Confirm that both picture and audio are arriving before you begin or announce the broadcast.
Plan continuous operation and YouTube archives
A 24/7 station needs both the playout software and encoder to keep running, as well as a Windows host and internet connection that remain available. You can use one suitable PC you already own or dedicate a separate Windows host. Decide based on how long the machine can stay online, whether it is needed for other work, how you will recover after restarts, and whether keeping RadioDJ’s audio routed to the encoder is manageable. The available RadioDJ requirements establish a baseline, not a benchmark for a particular PC or a guarantee of uninterrupted operation.

Do not assume YouTube will save a single 24-hour broadcast as one archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If a saved archive matters, plan separate sessions shorter than that limit and verify the current archive behavior in YouTube Studio. YouTube encoder instructions

Clear music rights before broadcasting
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match may replace the live video with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube also warns that even licensed third-party content may be interrupted if the rights holder has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Owning a copy of a recording, or having a general license, does not by itself establish that the live broadcast is cleared or allowlisted. Confirm that your specific rights cover live streaming on YouTube and resolve any Content ID allowlisting requirements with the rights holder before going live. YouTube copyright guidance
YouTube says live-stream monetization is available to channels in the YouTube Partner Program. Whether a particular channel qualifies depends on its status and applicable YouTube requirements; the RadioDJ setup does not itself establish eligibility.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
