Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To stream a Kannada podcast archive continuously on YouTube with FFmpeg, prepare a video file you have permission to rebroadcast, loop it with -stream_loop -1, pace it in real time with -re, and send it to YouTube Live over RTMPS using the stream URL and private key from YouTube Studio. The computer running FFmpeg must stay powered on and connected. Test the actual file and connection before relying on a long broadcast.
Before you start
- Confirm broadcast rights. Make sure you are allowed to rebroadcast the podcast audio, music, artwork, and any other material in the archive. Owning a recording or having permission to publish an episode does not necessarily establish permission for continuous retransmission.
- Prepare a compatible media file. The command below assumes one local video file containing both the visuals and audio. The archive’s format and codecs are not known in advance, so check the file and test it rather than assuming it will work.
- Install FFmpeg and keep the host available. Use a computer or server that can access the file and sustain an internet connection. FFmpeg does not keep a stream alive if the host loses power, the file becomes unavailable, or the network drops.
- Enable YouTube Live. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. Complete that step before your planned broadcast.
YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder streams. Its current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS. The example below uses H.264 and AAC. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for current bitrate guidance and choose settings that fit the video and your sustained upload capacity.

Set up YouTube Live and protect the stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room. Create or select the stream you intend to use.
- Copy the ingest server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Use the exact RTMPS configuration provided by YouTube; do not publish or share the key.
- Keep the URL and key ready for the FFmpeg command. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a broadcast to your stream.
YouTube’s setup instructions explain the encoder connection steps and first-time activation: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Loop one archive file with FFmpeg
For a local MP4 that already has a video and audio track, use this command structure. Replace the filename and RTMPS placeholder with your own values; never paste a real stream key into a public script, screenshot, or article.

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "podcast-archive.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 2500k -maxrate 2500k -bufsize 5000k
-g 60 -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/YOUR_PRIVATE_STREAM_KEY"
What the options do
-rereads the input at its native frame rate so the file is sent at playback speed instead of as fast as the computer can process it.-stream_loop -1tells FFmpeg to loop that input indefinitely. These are input options, so they appear before-i.-i "podcast-archive.mp4"selects the local input file. Quote filenames that contain spaces.-c:v libx264and-c:a aacencode video and audio as H.264 and AAC. This re-encodes the input; that may be necessary if the original codecs or parameters do not match the chosen YouTube ingest settings.-b:v,-maxrate, and-bufsizeset video rate-control values in this example. The listed values are only a starting point, not a universal YouTube preset. Choose bitrate and resolution using YouTube’s current table and the capabilities of your connection and source.-g 60sets a 60-frame GOP in this example. A two-second keyframe interval is YouTube’s recommendation, with a maximum interval of four seconds. Match the GOP to the source frame rate: for example, 60 frames corresponds to two seconds only at 30 frames per second.-b:a 128k -ar 44100set the example audio bitrate and sample rate. Confirm the chosen audio settings work with the source and YouTube’s current guidance.-f flvspecifies the output container commonly used for RTMP/RTMPS ingest. The destination is the RTMPS URL and private key supplied by YouTube.
FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 as infinite looping and -re as reading at native frame rate. See the FFmpeg documentation for option behavior. Because source format, frame rate, FFmpeg build, and upload capacity vary, do not treat this command as a guarantee of compatibility or uninterrupted service.
Audio-only archives and multiple episodes
If the podcast is audio-only
A video stream generally needs visuals as well as audio. One practical editorial route is to prepare a video file that combines the podcast audio with a still image or other permitted visual, then test that finished file with the command above. A specific FFmpeg visualizer or image-loop recipe is not established here, so verify your chosen preparation method before going live.

- 3 band EQ and high pass filters give you maximum control and eliminate unwanted noise, resulting in a cleaner mix
- 1 Knob compressors allow easy control: Resulting in livelier guitars, punchier bass lines, a tighter snare and a cleaner vocal sound.
- MG Series mixers feature a rugged, impact resistant, powder coated metal chassis
If the archive contains separate episode files
The command loops one input; it does not create a playlist of different files or guarantee seamless episode transitions. Assemble and test a combined file or a separately designed FFmpeg input/concat workflow before broadcasting. Confirm ordering, audio levels, transitions, and what happens at the end of each episode.
Start, test, and monitor the broadcast
- Start FFmpeg with the correct file and YouTube RTMPS destination. Check the terminal for connection or encoding errors.
- Open the stream’s preview/status in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm that video and audio arrive as expected before making the stream public.
- Test with movement and audio similar to the planned broadcast, as YouTube recommends. Check that speech is intelligible, the image is stable, and the stream health/status messages do not report a problem.
- Monitor both the host running FFmpeg and YouTube’s stream health during the broadcast. A command that starts successfully is not proof that a long-running stream will remain uninterrupted.
For a replay you need YouTube to archive, schedule the broadcast to end and restart before it reaches 12 hours. YouTube states: “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” Its cited guidance does not say that a stream longer than 12 hours will be archived.

What happens when something fails
FFmpeg looping handles the end of the input file; it does not by itself guarantee recovery from every process, host, network, or YouTube-side failure. If the process exits, inspect its final error output, confirm the file is still accessible, and restart it only after checking the YouTube stream state and key. If connectivity drops, restore the connection and verify the preview and stream health again. For unattended operation, a host-level process supervisor may restart a failed process, but that is separate from FFmpeg’s input loop and still requires monitoring.
Optional: run FFmpeg on an always-on server
If your own computer cannot remain on, a rented VPS or managed server is another deployment route. Before choosing one, verify that it can access the archive, sustain the required upload rate, run your FFmpeg build, and meet its provider’s bandwidth and usage terms. This is optional; it adds hosting cost and still requires you to configure, monitor, and recover the stream.
