To play prerecorded videos continuously in XSplit Broadcaster, add a Video Playlist source, load your local video files, and send the scene to YouTube Live using your YouTube stream URL and key. The playlist can continue from one video to the next, but the broadcast is not guaranteed to run indefinitely: your computer, XSplit, internet connection, and YouTube session all need to remain operational.
Before you start: check YouTube Live access
Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is the first time you enable live streaming, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. Check access before building a long-running broadcast: YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.

Create a video playlist in XSplit Broadcaster
- Open XSplit Broadcaster and the scene you want to stream.
- Select Add source > Scene Widgets > Video Playlist.
- In the playlist source properties, add the video files you want to play and save.
- Check the order and any playback options shown in your installed version. XSplit describes the source as supporting continuous playback and options for controlling how videos play, but the documented instructions do not establish that every version has the same repeat, shuffle, transition, or ordering controls. Test the playlist in your version before broadcasting. See XSplit’s Video Playlist instructions and its source overview.
- Preview the scene and make sure it advances through the playlist as intended.
Check the video and audio files
XSplit lists common media formats such as MP4 and WEBM among its media sources, but the playlist documentation does not guarantee compatibility with every codec or file variant. Test each file locally in the installed software. Confirm that both picture and audio play correctly before you connect the scene to a live stream. Connect XSplit to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or select an existing one.
- Copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key from the stream setup.
- In XSplit, open the YouTube output or encoder settings and enter the server URL and stream key. The precise control labels may vary by version.
- Keep the stream key private. It works like a credential directing your encoder feed to your YouTube channel; reset it in YouTube if you think it has been exposed. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Start the encoder feed and check the incoming preview in YouTube Live Control Room before you make the stream public or go live.
Check the connection and monitor the broadcast
YouTube recommends that your total stream bitrate stay within your available upload bandwidth, with 20% headroom above the bitrate. For example, if the encoder sends a total bitrate of 5 Mbps, plan for at least 6 Mbps of upload capacity under the conditions where you will stream. This is YouTube’s recommendation, not a guarantee that a connection will remain stable. A network interruption can break the broadcast. See YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance.

- Check the incoming preview for picture, sound, and accessibility before going live.
- Monitor audio and video quality during the broadcast rather than assuming that a working playlist means the YouTube feed is healthy.
- Keep the computer awake and XSplit running, and avoid relying on a network connection that may disconnect during the stream.
Understand playlist continuity, stream continuity, and replay
These are separate parts of the setup: XSplit plays the local files and produces an encoder feed; YouTube receives that feed through the stream URL and key. A playlist that advances continuously does not by itself keep the YouTube broadcast online if XSplit stops, the computer shuts down, the connection drops, or the platform session ends.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Treat that as the stated archive condition, not a promise that a longer stream will have a complete replay or that a stream will stay live indefinitely. Current guidance is in YouTube’s encoder setup documentation.
