Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYou can stream videos stored in a cloud folder to YouTube Live by making the files available to a playback system, looping one file or a playlist in an encoder such as OBS, and sending that encoder’s output to a YouTube broadcast. The folder itself does not become a YouTube playlist, and a loop setting alone cannot guarantee a nonstop broadcast: the playback device or hosted service, file access, and network must keep working.
How the cloud-folder-to-YouTube setup works
There are three separate pieces: cloud storage holds the media, a player and encoder turn selected files into a continuous audio-video feed, and YouTube Live receives that feed. A desktop setup typically uses Google Drive for desktop to access files, OBS to play and encode them, and YouTube Studio to create and monitor the broadcast. Google Drive for desktop, OBS media sources, and YouTube Live broadcasts and streams document these separate parts.

Moving or adding a file to a cloud folder does not, by itself, make YouTube play it. You must make files available to the playback system and configure the intended file or playlist. Do not assume a changing cloud folder will automatically update an OBS playlist.

Check YouTube Live eligibility
YouTube Help says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Set up eligibility ahead of the planned start rather than discovering a restriction when you are ready to broadcast. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.

Everything stays effortlessly organized, powered by intelligent tagging and recognition.
Prepare files and rights
- Confirm the video and audio files play correctly, including the first and last items in the intended sequence.
- Make sure you have the necessary rights to broadcast every video and soundtrack. Being able to view a file in your cloud account does not establish permission to retransmit it. YouTube’s livestream terms require the necessary rights, including relevant music licensing rights, and content must comply with Community Guidelines. A stream may be terminated after a copyright or Community Guidelines strike. See YouTube’s livestream terms and copyright issues with live streams.
- Decide whether your computer has enough local disk space if you plan to mirror the folder rather than stream files from Drive.
Make cloud files available to OBS
Choose Drive streaming or mirroring
Google Drive for desktop offers streaming and mirroring. The right option depends on the available disk space and whether playback must continue if cloud access is interrupted.
| Drive mode | What to expect | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Streaming | Files remain primarily in the cloud. You need an internet connection and Drive for desktop running; accessed files can be made available offline. | Uses less local disk, but playback depends on Drive and connectivity. Google notes that support varies by drive type and some applications may have trouble streaming files. |
| Mirroring | Drive maintains a full local copy as well as the cloud copy. Mirrored files are available offline. | Uses local disk space, but avoids depending on cloud access for playback of the local copy. |
These are Google Drive for desktop behaviors; check current compatibility for your drive type and media player in Google’s setup documentation. An external SSD is optional, not a requirement; it may be useful if you choose mirroring and need more local storage.

Set up a looping source or playlist in OBS
Loop one video with Media Source
- Open OBS and add a Media Source to the scene you will use for the broadcast.
- Select the video file that Drive for desktop makes available to the computer.
- Enable the source’s Loop control if the file should restart after it ends.
- Preview playback and confirm that video and audio work as intended.
OBS documents the Media Source and its loop behavior in its media sources guide.

- Install VLC before adding the source; OBS’s VLC Video source is available only when VLC is installed.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source and create a playlist from the files you want to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist to restart the queue when it reaches the end.
- Play the queue through its last item and verify that it returns to the first item without an unintended gap or stop.
Keep the source active in the scene used for streaming. If you use multiple scenes, test that switching scenes does not interrupt the intended playback behavior. See OBS’s media source documentation.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, create or select the live broadcast you want viewers to watch.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for encoder setup, then enter them in OBS’s streaming configuration. Use the ingest details YouTube provides for that broadcast; do not copy credentials from an unrelated event.
- Use RTMPS if you select YouTube’s secure encoder-ingestion option. YouTube documents the workflow in its broadcast and stream overview and RTMPS ingestion guide.
- Treat the stream key and ingestion details as credentials. Do not include them in screenshots or share them. If exposed, replace or reset the key in YouTube Studio.
YouTube distinguishes the viewer-facing broadcast from the incoming stream that carries audio and video. Its API documentation says a stream can be reused for up to three broadcasts; this does not mean one broadcast will automatically play files from a folder. See the YouTube Live API overview and LiveStreams API reference.
Test before relying on a nonstop loop
YouTube’s preparation timings are recommendations for an event, not a promise of uptime. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder stream at least two hours before an event, starting the encoder at least 15 minutes ahead, checking the Live Control Room preview before going live, verifying that the event is accessible, and monitoring audio and video continuously. Follow the current guidance in YouTube’s live streaming tips.

- Listen for missing, distorted, or unexpectedly silent audio, and watch for frozen or blank video.
- Confirm that the Live Control Room preview and the public event behave as intended.
- For an ongoing broadcast, plan how you will notice and respond to failures in the computer, Drive access, network, OBS, or YouTube ingest.
The official documentation describes the components and preparation practices; it does not establish an uptime guarantee or reliability figure for a cloud-folder-to-YouTube workflow.
Costs and practical trade-offs
The desktop method may avoid a separate hosted streaming service, but it requires a computer running OBS, working file access, and a network connection for as long as the stream runs. Mirroring also uses local disk space; streaming files from Drive uses less local storage but depends on Drive for desktop and internet access. YouTube’s published setup recommendations are preparation timings, not a measured cost or reliability comparison.

Quick Recap
Troubleshooting
OBS cannot find or play a Drive file
- Check that Drive for desktop is running and that the file is available to the computer. A streamed file requires internet access; try making it available offline if playback is unreliable.
- If you use mirroring, confirm the file has finished syncing and is present locally.
- Some applications may have trouble with files accessed in streaming mode. Test the file in the intended player and consult Google’s Drive for desktop guidance.
The playlist stops at the end
- For a single Media Source, check its Loop control.
- For a VLC Video source, check Loop Playlist, confirm VLC is installed, and test the last-to-first transition.
- Confirm the source remains active in the scene being sent to YouTube.
YouTube does not receive the encoder feed
- Check that OBS uses the stream URL and key for the selected broadcast and that the key has not been changed or exposed.
- Confirm the channel is eligible for live streaming and that the encoder has internet access.
- Use YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room preview to distinguish a local playback issue from an ingest or broadcast issue.
The stream is interrupted or content is removed
- Check the computer, OBS, network, and cloud-file access; the complete local setup depends on each part staying available.
- Review YouTube notifications and the channel’s standing if a copyright or Community Guidelines issue is reported. Confirm broadcast rights for both video and audio before restarting.
