You can use Google Drive as the authorized source for animation files, but it should not be treated as the delivery system for a 24/7 audience. A continuous YouTube channel needs video files staged somewhere permitted, a player or playout process that loops them into a continuous feed, an encoder that sends that feed to YouTube Live, and a YouTube broadcast associated with the incoming stream. The exact unattended player-and-encoder setup must be selected and tested; the official documentation does not certify a turnkey Drive-to-YouTube looping recipe.
How the 24/7 setup fits together
There are three separate jobs: obtain the video files, play them continuously, and deliver the resulting feed to YouTube.
- Google Drive is the source or staging point. Download files only when you have permission to use and download them. Drive is not an unlimited audience-delivery layer.
- A playout process selects and repeats the videos. It must keep playback moving between files and recover appropriately if playback or the host process stops.
- An encoder sends the continuous audio/video feed to YouTube Live. YouTube calls the incoming feed a stream; the viewer-facing live event is a separate broadcast.
YouTube’s documented 24/7 architecture allows a persistent stream to continue while a separate broadcast is started from that stream. A broadcast can be completed without necessarily stopping the ongoing stream. This distinction matters when planning a continuing feed, but it does not provide the playlist player or guarantee unattended operation for a particular encoder.
Prepare the animation files and confirm you can use them
Check rights and download access
A Drive link is not permission to rebroadcast a video. Confirm that you have the rights to use each animation in a public livestream and that the file owner permits downloading. For Drive files, Google’s API documentation advises checking whether the file’s capabilities.canDownload value is true. Downloading binary media through the Drive API uses files.get with alt=media and requires an OAuth scope that allows reading file content. An authorized browser download is another possible workflow when the owner has enabled it.

Stage the files somewhere suitable for playout
After an authorized download, place the files on storage accessible to the process that will play and encode them. Choose a permitted local or cloud staging arrangement based on storage, expected audience delivery, maintenance, and egress costs. Google for Developers’ Drive API Terms of Service state: “Using Drive as a replacement for a large-scale content delivery network (CDN) is not allowed.” Treat Drive as a source or staging point—not as an assumed 24/7 CDN for viewers.
Google’s Drive API quota documentation describes a quota model effective May 1, 2026, including a per-project daily egress threshold of 1 TB per day. That is an API quota threshold, not a guaranteed video throughput rate, a CDN allowance, or permission to redistribute files. Google says projects that used the API during November 2025 through April 2026 retain the prior quota model. Check the applicable quota for your actual project before building an operating plan around a limit.

Build the do-it-yourself playout and YouTube connection
The following is the architecture and validation workflow, not a verified recipe for a particular player or encoder. Select software that can play your staged files as a continuous playlist, encode the output, and recover after interruption. Confirm its current documentation and settings before relying on it unattended.
- Make a playlist from staged files. Configure a playback process to move through the authorized videos and repeat the playlist. Check that the end of one file transitions cleanly into the next and that playback does not stop after a single pass.
- Connect playback to an encoder. The encoder must receive the playlist’s continuous audio/video output and use an ingestion route supported by your YouTube Live setup. YouTube documents RTMP stream resources; HLS ingestion has distinct format and transport requirements. Do not assume the settings for one route apply to the other.
- Match the encoder output to the selected YouTube ingest configuration. Set the output format, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, audio, and keyframe behavior according to the current YouTube guidance and the encoder’s implementation for your chosen route. The available official material here does not establish universal numeric values or validate a particular player’s settings, so do not copy arbitrary numbers from an unrelated setup.
- Create or select the YouTube stream and create a broadcast. A stream carries the incoming feed; a broadcast is the event viewers watch. Associate the broadcast with the stream using YouTube’s live controls or API workflow. YouTube’s Live Streaming API can create and manage events, schedule broadcasts, associate streams, and transition broadcast states.
- Run a private end-to-end test before going public. Confirm that the encoder connects, the broadcast receives the feed, all files play, the playlist repeats, transitions do not cut off audio, and the picture and sound remain acceptable. Simulate a playback-process stop and a lost connection, then verify how the selected software resumes and whether a person must intervene.
- Plan monitoring and recovery. Decide who will notice a stalled playlist, encoder failure, network interruption, or YouTube ingest problem and how they will restart the relevant process. A 24/7 design is not unattended merely because its first playlist pass succeeds.
Set the audience correctly for children’s animation
Animation format alone does not determine whether a livestream is made for kids. Set the audience accurately in YouTube’s controls. The Live Streaming API exposes selfDeclaredMadeForKids for declaring that a broadcast is child-directed; madeForKids is a read-only status property.

YouTube Help lists restrictions for made-for-kids livestreams, including live chat and live chat donations, comments, personalized advertising, cards and end screens, notifications, Super Chat and Super Stickers, miniplayer playback, and saving to playlists. Channel-level made-for-kids settings can also remove channel features. These are YouTube feature restrictions, not a complete account of legal obligations. Plan the channel’s interaction and promotion around the features YouTube makes available for its audience setting.
Test these failure points before scheduling public operation
- A video will not download: confirm that you have permission, that the file is available to your account, and that downloading is enabled. For API downloads, check
capabilities.canDownloadand the content-read authorization. - The playlist stops at the end: verify that repeat or loop behavior is enabled in the selected playout process; do not assume a player repeats by default.
- Playback works, but YouTube gets no feed: check the encoder’s connection to the correct YouTube stream and confirm that its ingest route and output format match the selected configuration.
- The broadcast ends when you expected only a feed interruption: inspect the separate stream and broadcast states. They are different YouTube resources, and changing one does not necessarily mean the other has the same state.
- The feed stops after an encoder or network interruption: determine whether the encoder and player restart automatically, whether the stream reconnects, and whether the broadcast remains usable. Validate the actual recovery path with a private test.
- Drive API requests return 403 or 429: check authorization and the applicable project or user quota. Google documents quota errors when limits are exceeded; a quota figure is not a promise of uninterrupted delivery.
- Chat or other viewer features are missing: check the stream’s made-for-kids designation and the channel-level audience setting before treating the behavior as a technical failure.
Where managed services fit—and where they do not
Google Cloud Live Stream API is a managed transcoding option for live linear signals delivered as HLS or DASH. It is a separate Google Cloud product, not a documented turnkey player that turns a Drive folder into a looping YouTube broadcast. Its quotas and operating requirements matter; Google’s documentation also notes that channels may need restarting after 24 hours. Confirm current product limits and costs for your region and configuration before designing around it.

A hosted production platform can simplify a live production workflow, but a service that connects to YouTube is not automatically a 24/7 Drive playlist system. Verify unattended looping, Drive file handling, restart behavior, supported ingest, and service limits in the product’s current documentation before relying on it for this job.
