You can host a 24/7 Hindi devotional audio channel on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) by running an Icecast server on an OCI compute instance and sending it a continuous audio feed from a source client. Icecast then serves that feed to listeners through a mountpoint URL. This is a self-managed architecture, not a turnkey Oracle radio service: OCI Streaming handles event and data streams, while OCI Media Services processes and delivers packaged video, not a drop-in audio-radio endpoint.
This guide covers audio-only internet radio. A YouTube-style video stream with devotional imagery uses a different delivery path.

Choose audio radio or video streaming
For an audio-first channel, the core path is: audio files or a live performer → source client/encoder → Icecast mountpoint on OCI compute → listeners and their audio players. Icecast distinguishes the source client, which sends encoded audio, from the server, which serves it to listeners. A mountpoint is the URL path for a particular stream; separate mountpoints can serve different streams or quality variants. See the Icecast basic setup documentation.
Oracle’s product names can be misleading here. OCI Media Services processes video sources into adaptive-bitrate packages and delivers packaged video such as HLS. OCI Streaming is for ingesting and consuming real-time data streams; it is not the listener-facing music endpoint in this design. For audio radio, use OCI as the host and Icecast as the streaming server.

Plan the channel before deploying
Pick a source and playback method
Decide whether the channel will play a sequenced playlist continuously, relay a live performer, or switch between the two. The source client can run on the same compute instance as Icecast or on a separate machine. One instance can simplify the initial setup; separating the source and server can make independent restarts and resource isolation easier, but adds another component to secure and supervise. This is an architecture option, not a tested OCI deployment recipe.
Choose the format and listener URL
Choose an audio format supported by Icecast and by the players your audience is likely to use. Icecast’s overview describes MP3 and Ogg Vorbis support; confirm compatibility with the installed Icecast build and your target players. Configure a source password and a named mountpoint in both Icecast and the source client, then publish the stable listener URL for that mountpoint. Estimate the workload
Before choosing an OCI instance, estimate listener count, audio bitrate, listening hours, number of stream variants, and where listeners will connect from. Listener traffic grows with bitrate, concurrent listeners, and duration. Compute needs depend in part on whether encoding occurs on OCI and how many streams or variants it produces. Include storage, backups, and any CDN or DNS services you decide to use.
Set up an Icecast-based audio stream on OCI
The following is a deployment outline built from OCI’s role as compute hosting and Icecast’s documented source/server model. It is not a tested, click-by-click OCI recipe; exact console labels and instance options can vary by region and account.

- Choose the OCI region and compute instance. Select a region suitable for your operator and expected audience, then size an instance for the Icecast server and, if applicable, the source client and encoder. Plan for listener egress as well as CPU and memory; a stream with many concurrent listeners can be network-intensive even when encoding demand is modest.
- Prepare the instance and network access. Install and secure a supported operating system, apply updates, and configure the OCI network controls and host firewall to expose only the ports required for the public listener endpoint and your administration method. Restrict administrative access rather than leaving it open to the internet.
- Install and configure Icecast. Use the installation method for your chosen operating system and Icecast version. Set a strong source password, a separate protected administrative credential, listener and source limits appropriate to the instance, and the mountpoint name. Configure encrypted listener delivery if your public endpoint is set up for it. Icecast’s configuration documentation describes configurable source and listener limits, mountpoints, and fallback behavior.
- Configure a continuous source. Point an audio player or encoder at the Icecast host, source password, and mountpoint. For a playlist channel, configure ordered playback and repeat behavior in the source client; for live programming, configure the live audio input. Test that the client reconnects or can be restarted after interruption.
- Open the listener URL from outside the server. Use a separate network or device to test the published mountpoint in the intended player. Confirm that audio starts, the format works for listeners, and the connection is not relying on an administrator-only address or a local network path.
- Configure restart and fallback behavior. Run the source and server under a process supervisor or equivalent service manager so failed processes can be restarted. If interruption tolerance warrants it, prepare a second source or fallback audio. Icecast fallback configuration can cover some source-down cases, but it does not by itself create a redundant high-availability service.
Keep the channel running and observable
A 24/7 channel needs more than a server process that starts successfully. Monitor source connection state, listener count, instance resource use, disk space for playlists and logs, network throughput, and whether an external listener can open the mountpoint. Alert on source disconnects and sustained service failure so a silent or unavailable feed is noticed.
Icecast supports source and listener limits and fallback mounts or files. Fallback audio must match the relevant format and should be tested with actual listener clients. These controls reduce some interruption modes; they do not guarantee high availability. A single instance, a single source, and an untested fallback can still fail together. - Protect source and administrator credentials; do not publish them with the listener URL.
- Limit administrative access and expose only required network ports.
- Test the listener endpoint from outside OCI and from the kinds of players your audience will use.
- Keep a recovery plan for a failed instance, a disconnected source, exhausted disk space, or a bad playlist.
Estimate OCI cost for your audience and region
There is no useful universal monthly figure without a region, instance choice, listener forecast, bitrate, traffic routing, and storage assumptions. Estimate the compute and storage charges using the live Oracle India Cloud Price List only if your tenancy is in India; it is a regional rate card, not a global price reference. For another OCI region, use that region’s current pricing and calculator. The referenced India rate card is live and its retrieved page did not provide a clear publication date, so check current prices before committing.

Do not treat OCI Streaming’s pricing dimensions as an estimate for Icecast listener traffic. Its FAQ describes data-transfer and storage-retention dimensions for the Streaming service, whereas an Icecast deployment’s listener costs depend on the compute and network services actually used. Cost out the expected egress, compute, storage, backups, and optional delivery services for your own workload before launch.

Clear rights for every track before broadcasting
Before loading music, establish who controls the composition, lyrics, sound recording, and performance, and what online communication or broadcast permissions apply in every territory where the service is offered. A devotional theme, an old composition, or a traditional melody does not automatically make a particular recording or arrangement free to rebroadcast.
