You can stream a crackling-fire video to YouTube Live through an encoder, but YouTube’s setup guidance does not promise that one live event can run indefinitely or explain a gap-free restart loop. First verify your channel, then test the video, audio, upload capacity, and encoder’s looping and recovery behavior before relying on it around the clock. For a managed YouTube-only cloud option, StreamNeo loops uploaded videos without keeping a computer on.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no livestream restrictions in the previous 90 days. If this is the channel’s first livestream, activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s livestreaming setup guidance.
- A prepared fire video and crackling audio that you created or are licensed to use for livestreaming and any archived replay.
- An encoder: either software running on a computer or standalone encoder hardware. YouTube describes both options in its encoder setup instructions.
- A stable internet connection with enough outbound upload capacity for the chosen stream bitrate.
A dedicated webcam is not needed for prerecorded fireplace footage. You do not necessarily need new equipment if you already have a suitable computer or encoder.
Set up the YouTube stream and encoder
- Confirm eligibility. Sign in to the channel and make sure livestreaming is enabled and there are no current restrictions. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Copy the server or stream URL and stream key into your encoder, following YouTube’s encoder instructions. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control your stream.
- Load the video and audio. Configure the encoder to play the fire footage with its crackling audio. Looping controls and reconnect behavior differ by encoder; confirm both in that product’s documentation and test them rather than assuming a video will repeat or recover automatically.
- Choose a stable encoding setup. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its live encoder settings list H.264, HEVC, and AV1 video support, recommend two-second keyframes, and say not to exceed four seconds. Select settings supported by your encoder and connection; advanced HDR or HLS options are not needed for a basic ambience stream.
- Check upload headroom. Compare the configured bitrate with actual outbound upload capacity. YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; a connection that only just matches the bitrate leaves little room for variation. Its streaming tips cover connection checks and monitoring.
- Preview and test. Start the encoder feed and inspect the Live Control Room preview before going live. Confirm that the picture moves, the crackling audio is audible and not distorted, and the stream health is acceptable. Monitor health after starting, especially during initial setup.
Plan for a genuinely continuous stream
A successful start is not the same as a proven 24/7 workflow. YouTube says that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived in its encoder guidance. That archive rule does not establish that one event can stay live indefinitely, nor does it specify whether a particular encoder or service can rotate events or restart without a gap.
Before promising uninterrupted availability, verify how your chosen setup handles event length, a dropped connection, a computer or power restart, and any transition between archived segments. Test the actual video loop and reconnection procedure, and decide who will monitor alerts or intervene if it fails. Do not assume that YouTube’s automatic archiving supplies a restart or recovery mechanism.

Use footage and audio you have rights to stream
YouTube’s Terms of Service place responsibility on the provider to hold the rights needed for live content worldwide, including music rights where applicable. A recording of a fire may itself be protected even if it contains no music. Use footage and sound you made yourself or have licensed for livestreaming, worldwide distribution, and any replay archive.
YouTube warns that an active live stream can receive a copyright strike, including when it matches another copyrighted live broadcast. Live content must also comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. A license for ordinary personal viewing or a short social post should not be assumed to cover a continuous public livestream.

Do-it-yourself computer or encoder versus cloud streaming
| Approach | What stays running | Looping and recovery | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Software encoder on a computer | The computer, encoder, and network connection need to remain available for the stream to continue. | Depends on the encoder and configuration; verify looping and reconnect behavior with the specific software. | Someone who already has suitable hardware and is prepared to monitor and troubleshoot it. |
| Standalone encoder | The encoder and network connection need to remain available. | Capabilities vary; verify prerecorded playback, looping, and recovery with the device maker. | Someone who wants dedicated encoding hardware rather than a general-purpose computer. |
| StreamNeo cloud service | The cloud service runs the uploaded-video stream, so your computer does not have to stay on. | StreamNeo lists 24/7 looping and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. | Someone who wants an always-on YouTube stream from an uploaded video without leaving home equipment running. |
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping an uploaded video live; it does not stream from a camera. Upload your fire video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Every slot supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, without re-encoding or quality tiers, and includes 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
The first day is free with no card, once per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. Plans use the same product and differ only by billing length; cancel any time. See StreamNeo for plan details. Start your free first day on StreamNeo.

Costs and practical trade-offs
A do-it-yourself setup may use hardware and software you already have, but it depends on that equipment, power, and network remaining available. A new computer is not automatically required, and no particular computer specification is established here. If you need to estimate transfer time for a video upload or compare cloud and PC running costs, use StreamNeo’s upload-time calculator and cloud vs PC cost calculator.
For a cloud slot, the listed billing choices are: Daily $0.99 per day · Weekly $2.99 per week · Monthly $9.99 per month · 6 months $49.99 for 6 months · Yearly $89.99 a year. Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| Livestreaming is unavailable | The channel is not verified, has a livestream restriction, or first-time activation is pending. | Check channel eligibility and restrictions; if this is the first stream, allow up to 24 hours for activation. |
| The encoder cannot connect | Incorrect stream URL or key, a changed key, or a network/encoder configuration issue. | Copy the current URL and key from Live Control Room again, keep the key private, and follow the encoder’s connection troubleshooting steps. |
| Video or audio is missing in preview | The wrong source is selected, playback is stopped, or the audio source is not routed to the encoder. | Check local playback and encoder source selection, then confirm both picture and sound in the Live Control Room preview before going live. |
| Stream health is unstable | Upload capacity may be too close to the stream bitrate or may vary. | Measure outbound upload under realistic conditions, reduce the bitrate or resolution if needed, and retain YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom. |
| The video stops instead of looping | The encoder may not be configured for looping, or may not support looping the chosen media source. | Confirm the encoder’s looping controls and test a full end-to-start cycle before leaving the stream unattended. |
| The stream drops and does not return | Automatic reconnect may be disabled or unavailable, or the encoder may require manual restart. | Check product-specific reconnect behavior, test a deliberate interruption safely, and establish a monitoring and restart plan. |
| A long stream ends or its archive is split | YouTube’s under-12-hour archive guidance does not guarantee indefinite event duration or seamless event rotation. | Verify how the selected workflow handles event limits, archive segments, and restart gaps; plan for a possible interruption. |
| A copyright warning or strike appears | The fire video or sound may match protected material, or the rights do not cover this use. | Review rights for worldwide livestreaming and replay, replace material you cannot substantiate rights to use, and consult YouTube’s notice and appeal process. |
For a rights review before publishing, StreamNeo also provides a copyright safety checklist.
