All livestream content must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. For property footage, get permission to film and stream the property, occupants, artwork, music, and any other protected material. A live broadcast is still subject to copyright and platform policies; do not assume that owning a camera or having access to a property grants rights to everything the camera captures.
Set the 4K encoder settings
YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS as ingest protocols, recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport, supports H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video, and allows up to 60 fps. Use the bitrate matching both your resolution, frame rate, and codec:

These are YouTube’s recommended encoder bitrates, not a guarantee that a particular camera, encoder, or internet connection will sustain them. For 4K/2160p, YouTube does not offer its low-latency optimization; 4K streams use normal latency.
Prepare and launch the live-camera stream
- Verify the channel and activate live streaming. Complete channel verification, check for restrictions in the previous 90 days, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Create the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Copy the stream URL and stream key for the event. Keep the key private; anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Connect the camera to an encoder. Use the camera and any required capture hardware supported by your encoder. Set the video to 2160p at 30 or 60 fps, choose a supported codec, then apply the corresponding bitrate, CBR, and keyframe interval from the table above.
- Enter the ingest details. Configure the encoder with YouTube’s RTMPS URL and the stream key. Avoid sharing or displaying the key in a public scene, recording, or screenshot.
- Test the actual production. Run a private or unlisted test with representative camera movement and the intended audio. Check that the Live Control Room preview looks and sounds right before making the stream public.
- Start the encoder, then go live. Confirm the incoming preview and stream health in Live Control Room, and keep monitoring while the property feed is on air.
- Test recovery and local recording. If the encoder or connection has a failover path, test it before the event. If you need an archive, verify that local recording is enabled and that the file is being written and remains usable.
Size the connection and test for real conditions
Use measured outbound upload capacity at the property, not the advertised download speed of the internet plan. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend leaving about 20% upload headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. Include a backup stream in the total if you will send one. For example, a single 50 Mbps 2160p60 H.264 feed calls for about 60 Mbps of available upload capacity when applying that headroom.

- Test from the actual streaming location and network, at the time and under the conditions you expect to broadcast.
- Use the real camera movement and audio arrangement; static test images can hide problems that appear during a moving walkthrough.
- Check the preview and stream-health alerts in Live Control Room before and during the broadcast.
- Watch for changing upload performance, dropped frames, audio interruptions, overheating, and power or network interruptions.
Plan for replays separately from continuous availability
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, including 4K streams. It also warns that a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance. A continuously available channel therefore does not guarantee a complete full-length video-on-demand replay.
If replay preservation matters, record locally and check the recording while the stream is running. Alternatively, plan shorter broadcasts or make a separate edited replay and upload it afterward. These are production choices, not guarantees that YouTube will archive a long continuous broadcast.

Troubleshoot common 4K stream problems
