To run a 24/7 piano-music radio channel on YouTube, send a continuous prerecorded-video feed through an encoder, first confirm your channel can livestream, and clear every piece of music and visual content for this use. You can run the encoder on a computer, use standalone hardware, or let a cloud service loop uploaded recordings. Plan the stream’s audio, monitoring, recovery, and archive sessions before you go live.
1. Make sure your channel can livestream
- Open YouTube Studio and check the channel’s live-streaming eligibility and any restrictions. YouTube may require channel verification; first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Decide whether you are creating a single long broadcast or a sequence of shorter sessions. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its guidance does not promise that a 24-hour-or-longer session will be archived intact. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
2. Clear the piano music and other content
Before uploading or broadcasting, inventory everything viewers will hear or see: the piano recording, the underlying musical composition, artwork, animation, and any additional audio or visuals. Confirm you have rights for YouTube livestreaming and for any replay you intend to leave available. Owning a recording, finding music online, or seeing it described as “royalty-free” does not by itself establish that it is cleared for this use.
YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” This is YouTube’s contractual language, not individualized legal advice. Read the YouTube terms and obtain permission appropriate to your content and intended territories.
Ask about Content ID allowlisting
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder, and continued use can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. If you have licensed music and its owner uses Content ID, ask the owner to allowlist your channel. YouTube says a licensed stream may still be interrupted if the channel has not been allowlisted. If an archived stream is available, a Content ID claim may also arrive after the broadcast ends. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

3. Choose how to send the continuous feed
YouTube’s encoder workflow supports software encoders and standalone hardware. Its encoder page also names Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. A hardware encoder is optional, not a YouTube requirement. The choice depends on whether you want to operate a computer continuously, pay for a recurring cloud service, and take responsibility for monitoring and recovery. YouTube does not establish any provider’s uptime, price, or music rights clearance; confirm those details directly with a provider.
| Approach | What it means | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Local software encoder | Run encoding software on a computer and send the feed to YouTube. | The computer and network connection must stay available; you handle monitoring and recovery. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | Use dedicated encoding equipment to send the stream. | Hardware is an additional purchase; plan configuration, monitoring, and recovery. |
| Cloud service for prerecorded material | Upload recordings and have a service send them to YouTube continuously. | Check the provider’s current price, operating details, recovery behavior, and your own rights obligations. |

4. Configure the YouTube stream and encoder
- In YouTube Studio, create a live stream and open its stream settings in Live Control Room. Copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder’s corresponding fields. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Set the encoder to RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval, following YouTube’s current encoder settings for your target resolution and frame rate. Use the current table on YouTube’s recommended encoder settings page for bitrate values; requirements depend on the chosen resolution and frame rate.
- Use the preview in Live Control Room to inspect the actual feed before making it public. Confirm the piano audio is present and at a consistent level, the image is correct, and the intended recording or playlist loops as expected.
5. Test bandwidth, stream health, and recovery
Test the complete audio-and-video stream before launch. YouTube recommends setting up in advance, testing the encoder, previewing in Live Control Room, checking stream health, and monitoring audio and video quality. Keep upload capacity above the combined stream bitrate: YouTube recommends approximately 20% headroom. For example, if the configured total bitrate is 5 Mbps, aim for about 6 Mbps or more of dependable upload capacity. This is YouTube’s operational guidance, not a guarantee that a connection with that speed will avoid interruptions.
- Watch the preview for dropped or frozen video, missing audio, clipping, unexpected silence, or a loop that stops.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators during the test and while the channel is live.
- Plan who or what will notice a failed feed and how it will be restarted. A local encoder depends on the computer and its internet connection; a cloud provider’s recovery behavior should be checked with that provider.

6. Plan sessions and replays for a 24/7 channel
A radio-style channel can stay continuously live while its broadcasts are divided into manageable sessions. YouTube’s stated automatic-archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours; it does not establish that one uninterrupted stream lasting 24 hours or more will produce a complete replay. If preserving replays matters, plan session lengths around the stated limit and check current YouTube behavior before relying on an archive. Keep your own source recordings so you can rebuild a playlist or provide the music through a separately authorized format if a replay is unavailable.
