Seal crackers against moisture
Moisture is the main storage concern for crisp crackers. Washington State University Extension explains that dry foods stored outside airtight containers can absorb moisture, and that crackers can lose crispness as a result. Close the package promptly after serving: press out excess air if practical, fold the inner sleeve over, and secure it with a clip or tie.

If the original sleeve will not stay closed, transfer the crackers to a clean, dry container with a tight-fitting lid. A resealable food-storage bag is another no-purchase option. The goal is a good seal; the available guidance does not establish that one container material keeps crackers fresher than another.
Choose a dry pantry or cupboard
Store crackers in a clean, dry cupboard or pantry rather than a damp spot. Washington State University Extension lists crackers among foods suitable for cupboard or pantry storage and recommends keeping dry foods in their original packaging or in metal, glass, or plastic containers with tight-fitting lids. It also advises dark storage because light through transparent packaging can speed flavor deterioration. Follow any different storage directions printed on your particular package.

Routine refrigeration is not needed for crackers under this dry-pantry guidance. Whatever storage method you choose, keep the package away from moisture and temperature extremes.
Pick a container that fits
A special cracker container is optional. The original inner bag, tightly folded and clipped, may be enough if it seals well. If you prefer a container, choose one that is dry, clean, closes snugly, and fits the crackers without crushing them. Ease of cleaning and whether it fits your cupboard are practical considerations; there is no supported brand or material winner.

Know when to discard them
Crackers that have simply gone soft or stale have lost quality, but that texture change alone does not establish that they are unsafe. USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service guidance says dry goods may mold if exposed to dampness and recommends checking packaging for holes. Discard crackers that are damp, moldy, contaminated by pests, or from a damaged package rather than trying to salvage them.
