If a wanted message is in Yahoo Mail’s Spam folder, open it and select Not spam. Yahoo says that moves the message to your inbox and that future messages from the same sender will be delivered there. Make this correction in Yahoo Mail’s app or desktop webmail, not a third-party mail client.
Move a legitimate message out of Spam
-
Open Yahoo Mail in its app or desktop webmail and open the Spam folder. In New Yahoo Mail on desktop, you may need to open More options to find it.

Select the message you want to receive and choose Not spam. Yahoo’s spam and mailing-list guidance says this returns the message to the inbox and future messages from that sender will be delivered to the inbox. Menu labels can vary by interface.

Yahoo recommends managing spam in its own app or desktop mail. It says third-party clients are outside its control, and advises disabling their spam filters and avoiding spam management there. If you want to keep receiving a message, do not choose Mark as spam: Yahoo says spam reports help it route future mail from that sender to Spam. If you no longer want a mailing list, use its unsubscribe option when available instead.

If the message keeps landing in the wrong place
Review blocked addresses and domains
In Yahoo Mail settings, check the blocked-address and blocked-domain lists for an accidental entry. Yahoo’s missing-email troubleshooting guide identifies blocks, Spam, and filters among the account settings to check when expected mail does not reach the inbox.
Inspect filters and their order
Look for a filter that moves or deletes the message, then correct or remove the rule if needed. Yahoo says all mail passes through its spam filter before its other filters; a custom filter is not a dependable way to override a spam classification. Yahoo also says filters are applied in list order, conflicting rules can interfere, and a newly created filter does not act retroactively on mail already received. Check the message’s current folder as well as the rules before changing them. See Yahoo’s filter troubleshooting instructions.

Check the actual sender if blocking seems ineffective
A displayed sender name or address can be spoofed. If a block does not stop the mail or the sender identity appears to change, Yahoo advises checking the full message headers and comparing the From address with the Received or Mailfrom fields. This can be difficult to interpret; ask your mail administrator or the sender for help if you are unsure. Yahoo explains the check in its blocked-sender guidance.

If the message is missing altogether
First check Spam, blocked addresses and domains, and filters. If those checks do not explain the problem, confirm that the sender used your complete Yahoo address and ask them to contact their email provider. Yahoo’s troubleshooting guide also suggests sending yourself a test message from a computer as an account check. This is a different case from a message you can already see in Spam, which you can move with Not spam.

If you send mail to Yahoo recipients
If multiple Yahoo recipients report that legitimate mail is going to Spam, the issue may be with sending configuration or audience practices rather than one recipient’s settings. Yahoo’s Sender Best Practices calls for all senders to implement SPF or DKIM at minimum, maintain valid forward and reverse DNS for sending IPs, follow RFC 5321 and RFC 5322, and keep spam complaint rates below 0.3%. Yahoo describes that rate in relation to mail delivered to the inbox; it is Yahoo’s sender requirement, not a general deliverability benchmark or a guarantee of inbox placement. Yahoo says enforcement began in February 2024 and was to roll out gradually through the first half of that year. Its guidance may change, so check the current requirements.
Additional requirements for bulk senders
Yahoo lists these requirements for bulk senders:
-
Use both SPF and DKIM.
-
Publish a valid DMARC policy of at least
p=nonethat passes and aligns with the From domain.Rank #4

Also review whether recipients expect the mail and reduce unwanted or unexpected sends. These are sender-side measures; they do not change an individual recipient’s Yahoo settings. Yahoo’s Sender Hub FAQs say it does not publish a numeric volume cutoff for classifying bulk mail. Yahoo may consider the authenticated or From domain along with other information, including content and IP, so a purported fixed daily threshold should not be treated as an official rule.
