The exact controls vary by brand, model, generation, app, and software version. The steps below apply specifically to Ray-Ban Meta where noted; check your manufacturer’s current instructions for other glasses.
Start with the exact model and its companion app
Before changing settings, identify the glasses’ brand, model, generation, companion app, and software version. Do not assume that a menu path or control for Ray-Ban Meta applies to another model—or even to every software version of the same product.

For Meta AI glasses, Meta says the Meta AI app lets users manage preferences for captures, voice, and notifications, as well as information shared with Meta. Open the app’s privacy or device settings and review the available options; labels and locations can change. Ray-Ban’s Ray-Ban Meta FAQ also documents controls for Voice Control, System Alerts, communication integrations, and sharing.
- Review capture preferences and any option that affects how media is handled.
- Turn off voice controls or wake-word features you do not want, if your model provides those settings.
- Review notification settings and connected services, including social accounts and messaging integrations.
- Check the app’s privacy and data-sharing choices, and disconnect accounts you do not want to use with the glasses.
Understand the difference between capture, import, and sharing
These are separate actions in Meta’s description of Ray-Ban Meta glasses. Captures remain on the glasses until the wearer chooses to import them to a phone. After import, they are stored in the phone’s gallery; sending or posting them onward is another choice.

That separation gives you several opportunities to stop media from going further: leave captures on the glasses, decline an import, or avoid sharing an imported file. Before sending media from the glasses or app, check the destination and intended audience.
Check social sharing before using a voice command
Ray-Ban Meta’s FAQ describes direct sharing to Instagram and Facebook Stories. Its instructions warn that media shared through this flow cannot be previewed or edited before it is posted, and that the audience follows the connected profile’s settings.

The capture LED is a signal to people nearby, not a privacy control to cover or disable. In its official AI glasses Q&A published in July 2026, Meta said, “The capture LED has no off switch.” Meta also said that second-generation glasses disable the camera if the LED is detected as blocked, and that it is updating safeguards to detect physical tampering or destruction. Those statements are Meta’s claims and may depend on model and software rollout.

Ray-Ban’s FAQ locates the power switch on the left inner arm near the hinge and describes a notification LED signal when the glasses turn off. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific pair and confirm the off-state indication. For any other brand or model, check its own documentation for the equivalent control.

Ask before capturing people nearby
Meta’s guidance recommends asking permission before capturing others. Respect people’s preferences and check venue policies before recording. Recording laws and rules vary by location and setting, so consult the requirements that apply where you are rather than assuming one rule covers every situation.
