If Samsung Keyboard keeps changing words as you type, turn off Auto replace: open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings, then switch Auto replace off. You can leave Predictive text on to keep word suggestions.
Turn off Auto replace but keep suggestions
- Open Settings on your Samsung phone.
- Tap General management, then Samsung Keyboard settings. Samsung’s current US guidance uses that label; another official page shortens it to Samsung Keyboard. If you do not see it, open the keyboard and tap its gear icon, or search Settings for “Samsung Keyboard.”
- Switch Auto replace off. Samsung describes it as a feature that replaces words while you type; the selected word may be inserted when you press the space bar or Enter. Samsung Canada’s Auto replace guide explains the behavior.
Predictive text is separate. Leave it on if you still want suggested words to appear above the keyboard; turn it off only if you want to remove those suggestions too. Samsung UK’s keyboard guide describes these controls.

If words still change after Auto replace is off
Check the neighboring correction settings, since they affect different behaviors and may be named or offered differently across devices.

- Auto spell check marks misspellings and suggests corrections; Samsung UK describes red underlines for this feature.
- Suggest text corrections handles grammar and phrases. Samsung’s US guidance says its options can include managing corrections by app: Samsung US keyboard settings guidance.
These are not the same as Auto replace. Disable the relevant correction option only if its specific behavior is what you want to stop.

Remove one learned word instead
If only one unwanted word keeps appearing as a suggestion, you do not need to turn off all suggestions. When the word appears in the predictive-text bar, press and hold it, then confirm removal. Samsung says this deletes the word from learned words. Instructions and availability can vary by device: Samsung UK’s keyboard guide and Samsung UK’s predictive-text instructions.
Why your menus or options may differ
Samsung notes that menu paths and predictive-text options vary by device and operating-system version; older layouts may place keyboard controls under Language and input or On-screen keyboard. If the path above is not present, use Settings search or the keyboard’s gear icon to locate the controls.

There is also a narrow language-specific exception: Samsung Japan’s guide, updated September 17, 2026, says predictive text for Japanese input cannot be switched on or off on Android 16 and later. That statement concerns Japanese predictive text; it should not be generalized to other input languages or to the Auto replace setting.
