To stop a distracting Google Calendar reminder, change the narrowest setting that fits: remove the notification from one event, disable notifications for a particular calendar, or turn off the Calendar app’s notifications on your Android phone. These options have different effects: calendar-level changes can sync with your other devices, while the phone’s app-notification setting does not turn off computer or email notifications. Google’s official instructions cited here do not document a dedicated Android Auto toggle for Google Calendar notifications.
That distinction matters before you change anything. A reminder that appears during a drive may be tied to one event, a whole calendar, a task, or a broader phone-notification setting. If you want quiet only while driving, Android’s Driving mode or Do Not Disturb filters may be a better fit than changing a calendar’s reminders everywhere. The steps below help you identify the alert and choose a control without disrupting more notifications than necessary.

Choose the setting that matches the alert
| What you want to stop | Setting to use | What it affects |
|---|---|---|
| One event reminder | Edit that event and remove its notification | That event, rather than reminders for the rest of the calendar |
| Reminders from one calendar | Google Calendar settings for that calendar | Notifications for that calendar; the change can sync with computer notifications |
| Calendar app notifications on this phone | Android app-notification settings | Calendar notifications on the phone; computer and email notifications may continue |
| Interruptions while driving from multiple apps | Android Driving mode or Do Not Disturb filters | Notifications affected by the mode’s settings; available controls vary by device and Android version |
If you are unsure which reminder is responsible, start with the event or calendar setting rather than disabling every Calendar notification on the phone. If the alert is a task reminder rather than an event reminder, check the separate task controls described below.

Use the table as a scope check. Removing one event’s reminder is the most limited change: it leaves other events alone. Changing a calendar’s notification setting affects that calendar more broadly and can also change computer notifications synced with the account. Turning off Calendar under Android’s app-notification settings applies to the phone, not just to Android Auto. Driving mode and Do Not Disturb are different again: they are intended to filter interruptions more broadly, and what they block depends on the options available on the device.

There is no documented dedicated Android Auto Calendar switch in the Google instructions linked here. That does not mean you must silence all phone notifications to address one alert. It means you should identify the source and use the corresponding Calendar or Android control, while avoiding assumptions about a separate car-only setting.
Remove a reminder from one event
Use this when a single appointment or event is causing the interruption and you still want reminders for other events. It is also a sensible first change if you can identify the exact event but do not want to alter the behavior of the calendar as a whole.
- Open the Google Calendar app on your Android phone.
- Open the event and tap Edit.
- Remove the event’s notification.
- Save the event.
This changes the notification for that event, not the default notification setting for every event in the calendar. Google’s instructions are in Change Google Calendar notifications on Android.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →After saving, use the same approach for another specific event only if that event is also a problem. Do not change the calendar-wide setting merely because one appointment was distracting; that broader change could remove reminders you still want for unrelated events in the same calendar. Conversely, if the same kind of alert keeps coming from many events in one calendar, editing events individually may not be the right scope. Check the calendar’s notification entries instead.
If the event edit does not seem relevant to the alert, pause before making a wider change. The alert might be tied to a task rather than an event, or it could be coming from a different calendar or account. Google lists task and overdue-task notification controls separately from Calendar notifications, so identifying the type first can prevent changing the wrong setting.
Turn off notifications for one calendar
Choose this if a particular calendar is the source of the unwanted reminders, but you want other calendars to keep notifying you. This can be useful when you have more than one calendar or account and the distraction is limited to one of them. It is broader than editing an event because it changes notification behavior for that calendar, not just a single appointment.
- Open Google Calendar and tap Menu.
- Tap Settings.
- Select the relevant calendar.
- Tap a notification and choose No notification.
- If that calendar has more than one notification entry, repeat the change for each one you want to remove.
Repeat for other calendars or accounts only if their reminders are also a problem. Calendar notification settings are personal to the account, and changing them on the phone can also affect notifications synced to a computer. This is not limited to the car or to Android Auto: it changes the calendar’s notification behavior more broadly.

Before making the change, make sure you selected the calendar that actually contains the event. If you use multiple calendars or accounts, changing one calendar will not automatically change every other one. Likewise, do not assume that setting one notification entry to No notification covers every entry shown for that calendar. Google’s steps say to repeat the change for each notification you want to remove, so inspect the calendar’s entries and adjust only the ones that match your goal.

The account-level tradeoff is important: calendar notification settings are personal to the account, and a change made on the phone can sync with computer notifications. If your aim is solely to avoid interruptions in the car while keeping computer reminders, this may be too broad. In that case, consider whether a phone-level control or a driving mode filter better matches the scope you want. Google’s guidance does not promise that a calendar setting affects only Android Auto.
For the official procedure, see Google Calendar Help: Change Google Calendar notifications on Android.
Silence Calendar notifications on the phone
If your goal is to stop the Calendar app from notifying you on this phone—not just while driving—use Android’s app-notification control:
- Open Android Settings.
- Tap Notifications, then App notifications.
- Select Calendar.
- Turn notifications off.
The precise labels or menu layout can differ by device. This phone-level setting does not silence computer or email notifications, according to Google’s guidance. Use it only if you want Calendar app notifications on the phone to stop generally, not merely one event reminder. See Google’s Android notification instructions.
This is a device setting rather than a calendar-specific setting. It is therefore the more direct choice if you want the Calendar app not to notify you on that phone across calendars, instead of changing reminders for a particular calendar in your account. At the same time, it is not a driving-only option: it applies to Calendar notifications on the phone generally. If you still want phone notifications outside the car, leave this control enabled and look at an event, calendar, or mode setting that better matches your needs.
Google notes that Android device settings can differ. If the menu names on your phone are not an exact match, look for the Android notification controls for apps and then the Calendar app. Avoid treating the absence of a menu label as evidence that Android Auto has a hidden Calendar-specific switch; the cited Google guidance does not document one.
Also keep the scope distinction clear: silencing Calendar app notifications on the phone does not turn off computer or email notifications. If the reason for the change is an alert on another device, the phone’s app-notification control will not address that separate channel. If the reason is one event, a single-event edit is narrower and less disruptive.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

If the problem is interruptions from several apps while you are driving, a system-wide mode may fit better than changing Calendar’s reminders. Google documents Driving mode under Android Settings > Modes, including an automatic While driving option. You can also review Do Not Disturb and its notification filters.

Mode controls and available filters depend on the device and Android version; some of Google’s instructions apply only to Android 14 or later. Check the settings available on your phone and confirm which notifications the selected mode allows or blocks. A driving mode is a broader interruption control, not a documented Android Auto-specific Calendar switch. See Limit interruptions with Modes & Do Not Disturb on Android.
The choice between a Calendar setting and a mode comes down to when and how broadly you want notifications filtered. If one meeting is the problem at any time of day, edit that event. If one calendar’s reminders are consistently unwanted, adjust that calendar. If you want Calendar not to notify on the phone at all, use the app-notification setting. If your concern is interruptions from multiple apps while driving, review Driving mode or Do Not Disturb and its available filters instead of changing the settings of each app separately.
Do not assume that every Android phone exposes identical mode options or that a filter will behave the same across Android versions. Google’s instructions include a “While driving” option under Modes, but available controls vary; some steps apply only on Android 14 or later. Inspect the filters on your device and confirm what is allowed or blocked before relying on the mode to silence a particular type of notification.
Modes are not a replacement for identifying the alert. If a specific Calendar event is still unwanted outside driving time, a broad mode may merely hide interruptions temporarily rather than address the reminder that is generating them. If the aim is only to keep the car experience quieter, however, a driving mode may better preserve the event and calendar settings you want to keep elsewhere.
Check whether the alert is an event or a task
Google Calendar has separate settings for Calendar notifications, Tasks notifications, and overdue Tasks notifications. If changing an event reminder does not address the alert, identify whether it is a task or overdue-task notification and review the corresponding setting in Calendar. Google’s settings guidance lists these controls separately, but does not establish how each type is surfaced in Android Auto. For that reason, do not assume that changing an event reminder will silence every Calendar-related in-car alert. See Change Google Calendar settings on an Android phone or tablet.
This distinction is useful when your first change appears to have no effect. Removing a notification from an event only addresses that event’s reminder. It does not necessarily address a task notification, because Google provides separate controls for Tasks and overdue Tasks. If the alert is associated with a task, review those controls rather than continuing to remove event notifications or disabling an entire calendar without first checking what kind of notification is involved.
The same caution applies if the alert’s origin is unclear. The official settings guidance identifies separate categories, but does not say precisely how each category is presented in Android Auto. That means you can use the category controls to address the corresponding Calendar notification behavior, but should not claim that one setting is guaranteed to silence every possible in-car alert.
Do not disable Calendar data sharing as a shortcut
Google’s Share Google Calendar data with other apps option controls access to calendar data through Calendar Provider for apps that have Calendar permission. It is a data-access control, not a documented targeted setting for silencing Android Auto alerts. Turning it off may affect third-party calendar apps, widgets, other apps, and certain Android system features. Unless your goal is to restrict other apps’ access to calendar data, use the event, calendar, phone-notification, or driving-mode controls instead. See Google’s Calendar data-sharing guidance.

In other words, data sharing and notification behavior are different problems. Changing the sharing option can affect which apps with Calendar permission can access calendar data through Calendar Provider. Google warns that disabling it may affect third-party calendar apps, widgets, other apps, and certain Android system features. That is a much wider consequence than removing one event reminder or filtering phone notifications while driving.
Use the sharing control only if limiting other apps’ access to calendar data is actually your goal. It is not a substitute for choosing No notification for a calendar entry, editing one event, disabling Calendar app notifications on the phone, or setting a driving-mode filter. Google’s documentation does not present data sharing as an Android Auto notification switch.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If reminders still appear, narrow down their source
- Only one appointment causes the alert: Reopen that event and check its notification setting.
- Several events from one calendar cause it: Check every notification entry for that calendar in Calendar settings, and confirm the relevant account and calendar are selected.
- The phone still shows alerts outside the car: A calendar-level change may be preferable if you want to keep other calendars’ notifications; otherwise, review the phone’s Calendar app-notification setting.
- The alert concerns a task or an overdue task: Check the separate Tasks and overdue Tasks notification controls.
- The disruption comes from multiple apps while driving: Review Driving mode or Do Not Disturb filters rather than changing each app’s calendar settings.
- You use Waze as well: Waze has a separate calendar integration for time-to-leave notifications. Its help page says that feature is not supported on Android Auto, Android Automotive, or CarPlay, so do not treat a Waze reminder as proof that Google Calendar’s Android Auto notification setting is responsible. See Waze’s calendar-sync guidance.
When an alert remains, change one relevant setting at a time rather than disabling unrelated controls. For example, if the alert comes from one known appointment, revisit that event first. If it appears tied to many events within a particular calendar, verify the selected account and calendar and review every notification entry. If it is a task alert, use the task-specific settings. This method keeps the troubleshooting focused on the likely source and makes it easier to see whether the change addressed the problem.
Also distinguish an alert on the phone from one on a computer or in email. A phone-level app-notification change applies to the phone; Google says computer and email notifications may continue. A calendar-level change can sync with computer notifications. Choosing between those settings based on where you want reminders to stop can avoid surprising changes on another device.
If Waze is part of the picture, treat its calendar integration as separate from Google Calendar notifications. Waze’s official help page says its calendar time-to-leave feature is not supported on Android Auto, Android Automotive, or CarPlay. That does not establish that every alert seen in a vehicle comes from Waze or Google Calendar; it is simply a reason not to conflate Waze’s integration with a Google Calendar setting.
Google’s published settings explain how to change Calendar, task, and Android notification behavior, but the cited guidance does not identify a dedicated Android Auto control or establish exactly how every reminder type appears in the car. If a specific in-car alert remains after the relevant setting is changed, first confirm its source and type rather than disabling calendar data sharing or changing unrelated settings.
No special phone, head unit, mount, charger, or subscription is required for these settings changes. The practical fix is choosing the right software control, not buying a replacement device or vehicle accessory.

Can I turn off Google Calendar notifications only in Android Auto?
Google’s cited instructions do not document a dedicated Android Auto Calendar notification toggle. Use the narrowest available control instead: edit one event, change notifications for a calendar, adjust Calendar app notifications on the phone, or review Driving mode and Do Not Disturb filters for broader driving-time quiet.

Will turning off Calendar notifications on my phone stop computer or email alerts?
No. Google’s guidance says Android’s app-notification setting controls notifications on the phone; computer and email notifications may continue. Calendar-level notification changes are different and can sync with computer notifications.
How do I stop just one Google Calendar reminder?
Open the event in Google Calendar on Android, tap Edit, remove its notification, and save. This addresses that event rather than changing notification settings for every event in the calendar.
What if I want to stop reminders from just one calendar?
In Google Calendar, tap Menu > Settings, select the relevant calendar, tap a notification, and choose No notification. If more than one notification entry appears, repeat for each one you want to remove. The change is associated with the account and can affect notifications synced to a computer.

The alert could be tied to a task or an overdue task, which have separate notification controls in Google Calendar. The official settings guidance lists these categories separately but does not specify exactly how each is surfaced in Android Auto.
Should I disable Calendar data sharing to stop in-car alerts?
No, not as a targeted notification fix. Calendar data sharing controls access to Calendar Provider data for apps with Calendar permission. Google warns that disabling it may affect third-party calendar apps, widgets, other apps, and certain Android system features.
Can Android Driving mode silence Calendar notifications while I drive?
Driving mode and Do Not Disturb offer broader notification filters, but available settings depend on the phone and Android version. Google documents Driving mode under Settings > Modes, including a While driving option; some instructions apply only on Android 14 or later. Review your device’s filters rather than assuming the same options are available everywhere.
Are Waze calendar reminders the same as Google Calendar notifications in Android Auto?
No. Waze has a separate calendar integration for time-to-leave notifications, and its help page says that feature is not supported on Android Auto, Android Automotive, or CarPlay. Do not conflate that integration with Google Calendar’s event reminders.
Do I need to buy anything to stop these notifications?
No. The relevant fixes are settings in Google Calendar or Android. The official instructions do not support buying a replacement phone, Android Auto head unit, mount, charger, or subscription for this problem.
The Bottom Line
Start with the smallest change: remove the notification from one event if only that event is a problem, or choose No notification for the relevant calendar if its reminders are the issue. Turn off Calendar app notifications in Android only if you want them silenced on the phone generally. For interruptions from several apps while driving, review Driving mode or Do Not Disturb. Calendar tasks have separate notification controls, and Google’s cited instructions do not document a dedicated Android Auto Calendar toggle.
