Choose the setting for the result you want

Hide Gmail events on a computer
- Open Google Calendar and select Settings.
- Under General, select Google Workspace smart features.
- Clear Show events from Gmail and confirm the pop-up if prompted.
This changes whether Gmail-derived events appear in Calendar. To prevent Gmail from adding events, use the Workspace smart-features control described below instead.
Turn off Gmail event creation on a computer
Open the account’s Google Workspace smart-feature settings and turn off Smart features in Google Workspace. Google’s guidance is to use this control when you do not want Gmail to add events to your calendar. Because this is a broader smart-features setting, read its description before switching it off if you use other Workspace smart features.

Change the settings on Android
Hide events in Google Calendar
- Open the Google Calendar app and tap Menu, then Settings.
- Tap Events from Gmail.
- Turn off Show events from Gmail.
Stop Gmail from adding events
- Open Gmail settings and select the relevant account.
- Open Google Workspace smart features.
- Turn off Smart features in Google Workspace.
Change the settings on iPhone or iPad
- Open Google Calendar and tap Menu, then Settings.
- Tap Events from Gmail.
- Turn off Show events from Gmail.
Google also recommends turning off Google Workspace smart features if your goal is to stop Gmail from adding events. The event display control and the smart-features control have different effects.
Delete one Gmail-derived event
Open the event in Google Calendar and choose Delete. On mobile, open More options to find the delete action. Deleting one event does not change the setting for other Gmail-derived events. Hiding events does not delete the source email or change other calendar invitations.

What Gmail events include—and why some may be missing
Google says Calendar can derive events from supported Gmail confirmations, including flight, train and bus reservations; hotel and restaurant reservations; and registration confirmations or tickets for events such as movies, shows and medical events. When a reservation changes, its Calendar event may update. Notifications use the account’s default Calendar notification settings. Not every date in an email becomes an event.
An event may not appear if the message went to a mailing list, you were cc’d, the email was redirected from another account, or the message was not a confirmation for a supported event. Google also lists government accounts, accounts with data-location restrictions, and Google Accounts without Gmail as unsupported cases. See Google’s explanation of Gmail events.

Regional defaults and missing settings
Google says Gmail events are off by default in the European Economic Area, Japan, Switzerland and the UK; in other locations, they are on by default. If events or the relevant setting are missing, Google advises checking the account’s Workspace smart-feature settings. Account eligibility can also matter.
Check event visibility if privacy is the concern
Hiding Gmail events from your own Calendar view is not the same as limiting who can see event details. Google says Gmail events are visible only to the account owner by default, even when the calendar is shared. Calendar visibility settings can apply to all Gmail events or to an individual event; with default visibility, calendar viewers may see event names and times, while people who can edit the calendar may see more details. Review the event’s visibility controls as well as the show/hide setting if you want to limit what others can see. See Google’s Gmail-event privacy guidance.
