First identify what is appearing: a pop-up window or tab, a website notification, or a redirect to an unfamiliar page. They have different controls. Block the relevant site permission first; if new tabs, redirects, or changed browser settings keep returning, check extensions and installed software too.
Identify the interruption before changing settings
- Pop-up window or tab: A website opens another window or tab. Check the browser’s pop-up controls and allowed-site list.
- Website notification: An alert appears in the notification area, sometimes when the browser is closed. Manage notification permission separately from pop-ups.
- Unwanted redirect: A link or browser session takes you to an unfamiliar page or ad. Check site permissions and extensions; if the behavior persists, investigate unwanted software.
Block pop-ups and redirects in Chrome
Chrome blocks pop-ups by default, but a site may have permission to show them. Google’s Chrome pop-up and redirect settings let you review that permission.

- Open Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Pop-ups and redirects.
- Review the sites allowed to show pop-ups or use redirects. Block any site you do not trust or do not want opening windows.
- If a site you trust needs a pop-up for a specific task, allow that site only rather than changing the default for every site.
Stop website notifications
If alerts continue after pop-ups are blocked, they may be website notifications. Chrome manages these separately: open Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Notifications, then block the site sending unwanted alerts. See Google’s notification settings guidance.
In Edge, notifications can appear in the notification center even when Edge is closed. To block one site, open Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Site permissions → All sites, select the site, and set Notifications to Block. Microsoft explains this distinction in its Edge notification guidance.

Change pop-up controls in Edge or Firefox
Microsoft Edge
Edge’s pop-up blocker is on by default. Check its pop-up and redirect controls and exceptions in Edge Settings; block sites that should not open new windows. Some pop-ups are legitimate, but others may use phishing tactics. Microsoft’s Edge pop-up guidance covers the browser’s controls.
Mozilla Firefox
Firefox has a pop-up blocker and an Exceptions control for sites that need permission. Mozilla also offers third-party redirect blocking, but notes that the pop-up blocker cannot stop all ads. See Firefox pop-up settings and exceptions.

- VLAN Network Segregation: This router includes five preconfigured VLANs that isolate IoT devices, guest users, and work systems into separate, secure networks. Each LAN port and every WiFi SSID can be assigned to a VLAN, giving you complete control over how traffic flows inside your home.
- Dual VPN Client and Server Support: The router works as both a VPN client and a VPN server, supporting OpenVPN, IPsec, and WireGuard. You can route selected VLANs through a VPN while keeping others on your regular ISP connection, giving each device group the exact level of privacy it needs.
- Full WiFi 6 on Both Bands: With dual-band WiFi 6 support, the router delivers modern wireless performance across 2.4GHz b/g/n/ax and 5GHz a/n/ac/ax. It improves capacity, stability, and speed while remaining compatible with older devices, making it ideal for busy homes with many connections. Wi-Fi Mesh is available after firmware update.
- High-Performance Hardware Architecture: Powered by the IPQ6000 quad-core ARM processor at 1.2GHz, along with 128MB flash, 256MB RAM, and hardware NAT acceleration, the router handles multitasking, streaming, VPN traffic, and VLAN isolation smoothly without slowing your network.
- Flexible and Powerful Parental Controls: You can use trusted services like OpenDNS, CleanBrowsing, and Cloudflare for filtering, then add custom block lists, allow lists, and schedules. The router includes defenses against common bypass attempts, letting families create rules that match each user. Best of all, it's subscription free!
When new tabs or unwanted redirects keep returning
Persistent pop-ups, new tabs that will not go away, unfamiliar redirects, changed homepage or search settings, and extensions you do not recognize can point to unwanted software or malware; they do not prove an infection by themselves. Google recommends reviewing unfamiliar programs and, when appropriate, resetting Chrome settings. Follow its guidance for unwanted ads, pop-ups, and malware.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Review the browser’s allowed site permissions and block unfamiliar or unnecessary sites.
- Review installed extensions and remove ones you do not recognize or trust.
- Look through installed programs for unfamiliar software and remove only items you can identify as unwanted.
- Do not click suspicious update or download prompts. For a legitimate update, go directly to the program’s official website.
- If the problem continues, use Chrome’s option to reset settings to their original defaults. Re-enable only extensions you trust.
What a pop-up blocker will—and will not—stop
A pop-up blocker controls browser windows and redirects covered by its settings; it is not a guarantee that every ad will disappear. Firefox’s blocker, for example, cannot stop all ads. If the interruption is a notification, change notification permission; if unfamiliar pages or settings keep returning, investigate extensions and installed software rather than repeatedly changing the pop-up setting.

- High-Quality Protective Material: The WiFi router cover is made of copper/nickel/polyester fabric. It has good conductivity and shielding effect forming a Faraday cage that is certified to provide 99% protection
- Adjustable Design: The E/MF protection cover features breathable fabric for natural ventilation and heat dissipation. We recommend only covering the router antenna when using WiFi. When sleeping or out and about, please cover the entire router
- Household Essential: RF emitted by routers is seriously harmful to our health. Prolonged exposure to RF can cause symptoms such as stress and memory loss. Therefore, we need shielding router cover to protect our families
- Care Instructions: Prolonged exposure to air will naturally oxidize the router cover, causing spots and darkening of the surface color. This does not affect its functionality or shielding effectiveness, but rather demonstrates the authenticity and high quality of the material. Please note that washing the protective cover is not recommended
- Single Opening Design: Features a convenient single opening that allows for easy access while maintaining effective RF shielding protection when the cover is in place
