Remove an unwanted invitation with the calendar service that created it, then use that service’s prevention or blocking control. The right action depends on the account behind the event: Google Calendar, iCloud Calendar and Outlook do not share one universal spam-report button. Google Calendar can report Google-sent events as spam, iCloud Calendar has a Report Junk action on iCloud.com, and Outlook separates phishing reports from sender blocking. An event shown in a different calendar app may still belong to another provider, so identify its source before troubleshooting.
First identify which service owns the event
A calendar application is often only a viewer. Your phone, desktop mail program or third-party calendar app can display events from several accounts at once. Reporting controls normally belong to the account that received or created the invitation, not necessarily the app currently showing it.

Check the account and calendar name
- Open the event details and look for the account, calendar name, organizer address or invitation message.
- If the event is on a shared or subscribed calendar, determine whether it is an individual invitation or an entire calendar feed.
- Open the same account in its web service when possible. Google’s documented spam workflow is for a computer, and Apple’s iCloud.com workflow requires a tablet or computer.
If an event came from a non-Google service but is visible in Google Calendar, Google’s Report as spam control will not accept it. Likewise, an Outlook phishing report applies to the suspicious message in Outlook, while classic Outlook calendar-item reporting depends on the installed build and update channel.
Remove and report unwanted invitations in Google Calendar
Report a Google Calendar event as spam
- On a computer, open Google Calendar and select the suspicious event.
- Choose More actions.
- Select Report as spam and confirm if prompted.
Google says the event is removed from your calendar. If the invitation is recurring, reporting it removes the entire recurring series, not just one occurrence. Google’s own help wording is: “If you notice a suspicious invitation or event on your calendar, report it as spam.”

This control has a specific boundary: the event must have been sent from Google Calendar. An event created by another provider, application or service cannot be reported through Google Calendar’s spam control. If the option is missing, check the organizer and account before assuming the calendar is malfunctioning.
Stop automatic additions from unfamiliar senders
- Open Google Calendar on the web.
- Select Settings.
- Under General, open Event settings.
- Find Add invitations to my calendar.
- Choose Only if the sender is known.
Google describes a known sender as someone in your contacts, someone in your organization or someone you have interacted with. This setting reduces surprise additions by keeping invitations from unknown senders out of the calendar until they meet Google’s definition of known. Google cautions that choosing this option might reveal to senders that they are not in your contacts, so consider that privacy trade-off if you routinely receive legitimate invitations from new people.
Use Google’s newer person-blocking control
Google announced a Calendar blocking option on August 18, 2026. When available on your account, blocking a person removes the current event and stops new calendar invitations from that person. The announcement’s September 17, 2026 update expected rollout completion by September 30, 2026, but availability can still depend on rollout status, account type and interface version.

Calendar blocking supports people with Google accounts. If the unwanted sender does not use a Google account, Google advises blocking that person in Gmail instead. Gmail blocking stops all email from that sender, including messages that could create Calendar events, so it is broader than merely suppressing invitations.

When a Google report does not solve the problem
- The event returns: confirm that you reported the complete recurring series and then review the known-sender setting.
- No Report as spam option: verify that the event originated in Google Calendar and that you are using the relevant Google account on a computer.
- New invitations keep arriving: use the known-sender setting, block the person when the feature is available, or block a non-Google sender in Gmail.
- The event is from another account: switch to that provider’s calendar controls; Google cannot report an event that another service created.
Report junk invitations in iCloud Calendar
Use Report Junk on iCloud.com
- On a tablet or computer, sign in to iCloud.com with the Apple Account that owns the calendar.
- Open Calendar and select the unwanted invitation.
- Choose Report Junk.
Apple says the event is automatically deleted from the calendar on all devices signed in to the same Apple Account where iCloud Calendar is enabled. This is a removal action across that account’s synced devices, rather than a report limited to the browser or device where you clicked it.
Apple’s iCloud.com guide describes invitation-delivery preferences separately. For each email address, you can choose to receive event invitations as in-app notifications or by email. Apple presents this as a delivery preference, not as a spam filter; changing it can alter where invitations arrive but does not by itself establish that unwanted senders are blocked.
Do not confuse an invitation with a spam calendar subscription
A single suspicious invitation and an unwanted subscribed calendar require different cleanup. If you accidentally subscribed to a calendar that fills your schedule with spam, delete the calendar subscription itself. Apple’s safety guidance distinguishes that case from suspicious individual invitations in Mail or Calendar, which can be reported as junk.

- Review the list of calendars associated with the Apple Account.
- Identify the unfamiliar subscribed calendar rather than deleting your personal calendar.
- Delete the unwanted subscription and confirm the removal.
- Use Report Junk separately for individual invitations that arrive outside that subscription.
If Report Junk is unavailable
- Move to a tablet or computer and use iCloud.com, because Apple’s documented workflow requires that form factor.
- Confirm that you are signed in to the Apple Account that has iCloud Calendar enabled.
- Check whether the item is a subscribed calendar rather than an invitation; delete the subscription instead.
- After removal, allow synchronization time on other devices signed in to the same account.
Handle suspicious invitations and messages in Outlook
Report a phishing message in Outlook.com
- Open Outlook.com and select the suspicious message in the message list.
- Choose Report.
- Select Report phishing.
Microsoft explicitly separates reporting from blocking. Reporting tells Microsoft about the sender but does not prevent that sender from sending additional messages. To stop future mail, add the sender to Outlook’s blocked senders list as a separate action.

Classic Outlook calendar-item reporting depends on your build
Microsoft’s classic Outlook support for reporting calendar items is not uniform across every installation. A Microsoft known-issue page updated January 7, 2026, says support was added in Version 2512 Beta build 19524.15010 and in Current Channel Preview and Current Channel build 19530.20000. Microsoft expected the change to reach other Office channels as they receive build 19530.20000 or later.
Before telling someone to look for a calendar-item Report button, check the installed Outlook version and update channel. If the button is absent, use the available message-reporting and blocked-sender controls, and keep Outlook updated through the organization’s approved channel. The exact menu can differ between classic Outlook, Outlook.com and other Outlook clients.
Treat sender indicators as clues, not proof
Microsoft notes that unauthenticated-sender indicators are not proof that a message is malicious. An unfamiliar or unauthenticated sender deserves caution, but no single indicator should be treated as a definitive verdict. Avoid opening unexpected links or attachments while you verify the organizer through a trusted channel.
Google, iCloud and Outlook at a glance
| Service | Report action | What removal or prevention does | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Calendar | Open event on a computer, choose More actions, then Report as spam | Removes the event; a recurring report removes the series. Only if the sender is known and person blocking can reduce future invitations. | Spam reporting accepts events sent from Google Calendar only. Google-account blocking does not cover non-Google senders; Google advises Gmail blocking for those senders. |
| iCloud Calendar | On iCloud.com, open the event and choose Report Junk | Deletes the event on devices using the same Apple Account with iCloud Calendar enabled. An unwanted subscribed calendar must be deleted separately. | Apple’s documented iCloud.com procedure requires a tablet or computer. |
| Outlook | In Outlook.com’s message list, choose Report, then Report phishing | Reporting identifies the sender; adding the sender to blocked senders is required to stop further messages. Classic calendar-item reporting depends on build and channel. | Reporting phishing alone does not block the sender, and calendar-item reporting may not appear in older builds. |
How to prevent repeat invitations without losing legitimate meetings
Choose filtering over blanket deletion
Blocking every unknown sender can hide a real appointment from a new client, school, medical office or community group. Google’s known-sender option is a middle path: invitations from contacts, your organization and people you have interacted with can continue to qualify, while other invitations are kept from being added automatically.

Block at the correct layer
Use the narrowest control that solves the problem. Google Calendar person blocking is aimed at future invitations from a Google-account user. Gmail blocking for a non-Google sender affects all email from that person, including calendar-generating mail. Outlook’s blocked senders list prevents further messages after a phishing report. iCloud’s documented controls focus on reporting the invitation and deleting an unwanted calendar subscription; its invitation notification choices change delivery, not the sender’s ability to invite you.
Remove the source, not just the visible copy
Deleting an event in a viewing app can leave the original invitation or subscribed calendar intact. After reporting, check the owning account and remove any remaining subscription, recurring series or message rule that keeps recreating the item. This is especially important when several accounts are synchronized into one calendar interface.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A safe response checklist
- Do not accept, decline or respond casually. A response can confirm that your address is active or reveal information to an unknown organizer.
- Inspect without opening links. Check the organizer address, account and calendar name from the event details.
- Capture evidence if needed. Keep the subject, organizer address and received message available for an administrator or provider report.
- Use the provider’s report action. Google Calendar, iCloud Calendar and Outlook have different controls and limitations.
- Apply prevention separately. Set Google’s known-sender option, block the relevant Google or Gmail sender, add an Outlook sender to blocked senders, or delete an unwanted iCloud subscription.
- Check synchronized devices. Confirm that the removal reached every device using the same account.
Common problems and the right fix
The event appears in more than one calendar
Open the event details and identify which calendar is selected. Report it in the owning service, then remove duplicate copies only after confirming they are not separate legitimate invitations. A report in one provider cannot remove an event that belongs to another provider.

In Google Calendar, Report as spam removes the recurring series according to Google’s guidance. In other services, verify whether you reported one occurrence, the series or the source subscription. If a subscribed calendar is responsible, delete that subscription rather than repeatedly deleting individual entries.
Best Value
You cannot find a block option
Reporting and blocking are often separate. Outlook’s phishing report does not block the sender. Google’s person-blocking control may still be rolling out or may not apply to a non-Google sender; use Gmail blocking for that case. In iCloud, Apple’s documented workflow provides Report Junk and subscription deletion rather than promising a universal sender-block feature.
The interface does not match the instructions
Check whether you are using a web service, mobile app, classic desktop client or an organization-managed account. Google’s cited reporting steps are for a computer, Apple’s iCloud.com steps require a tablet or computer, and classic Outlook calendar reporting varies by build and channel. Updating Outlook to a channel that has received the supported build may add the control, but organizational update policies can delay it.
What to do if the invitation may be a security attack
Calendar spam can be merely annoying, but an invitation can also be used to place a malicious link, fake support number or urgent payment request in a trusted-looking schedule. Treat unfamiliar invitations as untrusted content. Do not call phone numbers, download attachments or sign in through links in the event. If the event is connected to a work account, forward the details through your organization’s established security-reporting process. Reporting the calendar item does not prove the sender is malicious, and an unauthenticated indicator alone is not conclusive, so base the decision on the organizer, message context and destination of any link.

Google’s person-blocking feature and Outlook’s calendar-item reporting are time-sensitive product details. Google announced blocking on August 18, 2026, with a September 17 update expecting rollout completion by September 30, 2026. Microsoft’s classic Outlook support details were updated January 7, 2026, and depend on receiving the stated build through the applicable channel. If this article is read after those dates, the menu labels or rollout status may have changed; verify the controls in the current version of the service before relying on a missing or newly added option.
