If a Samsung Galaxy routine is activating unexpectedly, edit its If conditions or disable it. For a routine that depends on a clock time, check the phone’s date, time, and time zone too. Menu names differ by device and software version, so use Settings search for “Modes and Routines” or “Bixby Routines” if the path below is missing.
Find and edit the routine that is running
- Open Settings > Modes and Routines > Routines. On some devices, the feature appears as Bixby Routines or in a separate app. Samsung cautions that availability depends on the device and software version; see Samsung’s Modes and Routines guide.
- Look through the routine list for one that could cause the behavior you noticed, then open it and tap Edit.
- Review the If conditions. A routine pairs these triggers with actions under Then. Check whether the trigger is a time or day, location, device state, app use, or another condition, and change any condition that does not match your intent.
- Save the changes. If you want the routine to stop entirely, use the available disable or delete control; its label and location can vary by software version.
Samsung describes the behavior plainly: “The routine runs automatically when the set conditions are met.” Editing the conditions is therefore the direct fix when the trigger is wrong. See Samsung UK’s guide to Routines.

Make sure it is a routine, not an active mode
Galaxy modes and routines are separate features, and an active mode can be mistaken for a routine. Check the Routines tab for a routine that is running. Samsung also recommends looking for a routine notification in the Quick panel or an active mode in the lock-screen Now bar. If you see an active mode rather than a routine, investigate that mode instead.
Check the clock if the trigger is time-based
If a routine’s conditions include a particular time or day and it still fires at an unexpected hour after you review them, verify the device clock and time zone:

- Open Settings > General management > Date and time.
- Check Automatic date and time. If appropriate for your situation, also enable Set time zone based on location.
Samsung notes that automatic time updates can fail during carrier issues, travel between time zones, or periods when the phone is offline. An inaccurate clock or time zone is a troubleshooting possibility for a time-triggered routine, not proof that the routine itself is faulty. See Samsung’s date and time troubleshooting guide.
Why the menu may look different
Samsung UK documents Settings > Modes and Routines for Android 13 and 14, while routines on Android 11 and 12 are provided through the Bixby Routines app. Labels and layouts may also vary by model and app version. If neither path matches, search Settings for “Modes and Routines” or “Bixby Routines”; Samsung’s version-specific guidance covers the documented Android versions.
