You can start Blood and Wine either as a separate campaign from The Witcher 3’s main menu or by continuing an existing save. Choose the standalone option for a fresh expansion start; on an existing save, look for the main quest Envoys, Wineboys.

Start Blood and Wine from the main menu
- Update The Witcher 3 to the latest version so the expansion content is installed. CD PROJEKT RED’s support FAQ says the expansions are included in the base game and instructs owners to update.
- Open the game’s main menu and choose the standalone Blood and Wine option. CD PROJEKT RED confirms this separate start remains available on the game page.
This route is separate from continuing your existing save; you do not need to find the in-story notice board to use it.

Start it from an existing save
- Load the save you want to continue.
- Complete A Poet Under Pressure, then look for the notice on a Velen notice board. Secondary quest references identify the notice as “Appeal to Sir Geralt of Rivia, the Bridge his Crest.”
- Accept the notice and follow the resulting main quest, Envoys, Wineboys, to begin the expansion’s story.

Do you need to be level 34?
Secondary quest references list level 34 as the suggested level for Envoys, Wineboys. That is guidance, not a publisher-confirmed unlock requirement: CD PROJEKT RED’s FAQ does not give a mandatory character level for starting Blood and Wine.

If Blood and Wine is missing
- Update the game. CD PROJEKT RED says owners should update to the latest version to install the expansions.
- Check the account and edition you use. The publisher says the standalone expansions have been delisted from digital storefronts and the Complete Edition replaced the base game there. Players who already owned an expansion retain it in their library, with its content patched into the base game; save files remain compatible.
- Check platform-specific ownership details. CD PROJEKT RED says PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners can download the expansions for free. For Nintendo Switch, the publisher says both major expansions are included in the physical and digital Complete Editions; the physical edition has the content on the game card. See the Nintendo Switch Complete Edition FAQ. For other platforms, check the current listing and your game library rather than assuming every edition has the same packaging.
If you do not own the game, confirm the platform and edition before buying. The Switch Complete Edition details above apply specifically to that edition and platform.
