You can start creating content with a phone, a clear idea, and one platform. Choose a subject you can keep exploring, decide who you want to help or entertain, make one useful piece, and publish it. Then use the response to improve your next piece—not as a promise of quick growth, but as evidence about what your audience finds valuable.
How do you start creating content with no experience?
Start with a repeatable process, not a perfect brand, expensive setup, or prediction about how fast an account will grow. Your first goal is to finish and publish a piece of original work. A practical first loop is:
- Choose a subject you can return to. Think about what you can explain, demonstrate, document, review from genuine experience, or make repeatedly.
- Name a specific audience. Instead of “everyone interested in food,” try “students who want to cook inexpensive dinners with one pan.” This is a planning tool, not a guarantee that a niche will grow.
- Choose one platform and a format you can sustain. Consider where your intended viewers spend time and what you can produce consistently with your skills and schedule.
- Make one piece that delivers a clear outcome. It might answer a question, demonstrate a task, tell a short story, or entertain a defined audience.
- Publish it with an accurate title and description. Use a thumbnail or cover image where the platform offers one, and make sure it represents the content honestly.
- Review what happened and make the next piece. Use available feedback and analytics to decide what to clarify, repeat, or change.
Before filming or writing, list a handful of questions your intended audience might ask. For each, ask whether you can make a useful answer with the time, knowledge, and tools you have now. A manageable idea list helps you avoid choosing a subject that only works for one post.
Which platform should you start on?
There is no single best platform for every new creator. YouTube supports both Shorts and longer videos; Meta provides creator education for Facebook and Instagram. Those options have different formats and audiences, and platform resources do not determine which one suits your individual goals.

Pick one primary platform for your first batch of work. You can adapt successful ideas elsewhere later, but trying to master several platforms before publishing anything can add work without giving you useful feedback sooner.
What should your first video or post be about?
Make something specific enough that a viewer can tell what they will get from it. For example, a beginner home cook might demonstrate one inexpensive meal, while a new language learner might document how they practise a particular phrase. Choose a subject you can speak about honestly; if you are learning in public, say so rather than presenting yourself as an expert.
For a YouTube start, its official creator guide describes creating a channel with a Google Account, uploading through the Create control, or making a Short in the YouTube mobile app from a camera-roll video or with YouTube’s tools. Platform interfaces can change, so follow the labels currently shown in your account. For Shorts, YouTube advises paying attention to the opening one to two seconds.

A phone can be enough to film and upload mobile video. A smartphone tripod is optional if you need hands-free framing; it is not a prerequisite. Prioritize intelligible sound, a steady frame, and enough light to see the subject before buying gear.

How can you improve after publishing?
Make the title, description, thumbnail, or cover accurately match what the piece contains. A misleading promise may attract a click but does not give viewers a reliable reason to trust your next one. On YouTube, use Analytics and audience responses to understand how people respond to a topic and its presentation.
YouTube says recommendation systems consider viewer signals such as what people watch or skip, watch time, likes and dislikes, and satisfaction surveys. Its systems are not a secret-code exercise, and those signals cannot promise a particular result. Treat early posts as a way to learn: which questions bring useful responses, where viewers lose interest, and which explanations need more clarity.

You can also share relevant work with social accounts, communities, or podcasts whose audiences genuinely overlap with yours. Follow each community’s rules and contribute where the content is useful; unrelated, repetitive promotion is not a substitute for making work people want to see.
How do you keep your work original and handle rights?
If you hope to monetize on YouTube, originality matters. YouTube’s monetization policy says content should be original and authentic, and addresses repetitive and reused material. Mass-produced generic work may not qualify. Reused footage needs meaningful original commentary, modification, or educational or entertainment value under the reused-content guidance; that policy is distinct from copyright law.

When can new creators make money?
Monetization is conditional, platform-specific, and may take time. YouTube lists potential revenue features for accepted YouTube Partner Program creators, including advertising, YouTube Premium revenue, shopping, memberships, and fan funding. Individual features have their own eligibility requirements, and availability can vary by feature and location. Check the current rules in YouTube’s official help pages and in your account before making plans around a threshold.
YouTube’s October 2, 2023 creator-start guide described an earlier-access route with 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the previous 90 days, and either 3,000 watch hours in the prior 12 months or 3 million Shorts views in the prior 90 days. Those are dated figures from that 2023 guide, not a promise of acceptance or a statement of current eligibility. Verify current requirements directly with YouTube.
Meta Blueprint provides creator learning resources covering monetization and brand partnerships, but that education does not establish that a beginner qualifies for a specific feature or program. Do not count on income or a particular growth timeline when deciding whether to start.

What should you disclose when a brand is involved?
In the United States, FTC staff guidance says creators should clearly disclose financial, employment, personal, or family relationships with a brand—including free or discounted products or other perks. Put a disclosure where viewers will notice it close to the endorsement. For a video endorsement, FTC guidance says it should appear in the video, not only in the description; during a livestream, repeat it periodically. The FTC also says: “You can’t talk about your experience with a product you haven’t tried.” Rules elsewhere may add requirements, so check the laws that apply to you.
TikTok’s support search excerpt describes a content-disclosure setting for content promoting a brand, product, or service, with labels for self-promotion or paid partnership. Check TikTok’s current help information and in-app settings before relying on those details, since labels and rules can change.

- Choose a subject and audience. Write one sentence describing who the work is for and what they can get from it.
- Pick one platform and format. Check that you can make the format with your current tools and schedule.
- Draft several possible ideas. Select the one you can make most clearly and responsibly now.
- Create and publish one original piece. Use an accurate title and description; keep the setup simple.
- Review responses before planning the next piece. Note what viewers engaged with and what you can improve, without treating one post as a forecast of future results.
