Ledger Support will never ask for your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase. Treat unexpected Ledger texts, phone calls, WhatsApp or Telegram messages, letters, and social-media direct messages as suspicious; don’t follow their links or approve transactions you didn’t initiate. Verify by navigating to Ledger’s official site yourself, and if your phrase may have been exposed, prioritize protecting your assets—not merely reporting the message.

How to tell whether a Ledger message is genuine

Assess the contact by its channel, what it asks you to do, and whether you initiated the conversation. Ledger’s phishing guidance says it will not contact users by text message or phone. It identifies WhatsApp, Telegram, phone calls, postal letters, and unsolicited social-media direct messages as channels scammers may use to impersonate Ledger.

  • Channel: An unexpected call, text, letter, or direct message claiming to be Ledger is a warning sign.
  • Request: Any request for your recovery phrase or PIN is fraudulent. So is pressure to approve a transaction you did not initiate; reject it on your Ledger device.
  • Link: A link or contact detail supplied by the sender is not proof of legitimacy. Navigate independently to Ledger’s website and use its official support options instead.

An ordinary support question does not make an unsolicited contact genuine. If you need help, start the interaction yourself through Ledger’s official channels.

Red flags in Ledger phishing attempts

Requests for your recovery phrase or PIN

Never share your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase or type it into a computer, app, or website. Ledger says the phrase should only be entered directly on your Ledger device, and that support will never ask you for it. A fake error screen or a prompt to “verify” or “secure” your account by entering the words is a scam.

Urgency, threats, or claims your device will be deactivated

Messages may claim that you must act immediately to verify your identity, or that your device will be blocked or deactivated unless you comply. Ledger says it cannot deactivate a device. Don’t let an urgent warning push you into sharing secrets, following a link, or confirming an unexpected transaction.

Lookalike domains and fake apps

Scammers may use domains with subtle misspellings or imitate Ledger Wallet apps and websites. A convincing logo, page design, or sender display name does not establish who is behind the message. Don’t install an app or open a site from a suspicious message; independently reach Ledger’s official site and support channels.

How to verify Ledger Support safely

  1. Stop interacting with the message. Don’t reply, tap its links, call its number, install an attached app, or enter sensitive information.
  2. Open Ledger’s site independently. Type the address yourself or use a trusted bookmark; don’t rely on a link in the message.
  3. Start support from Ledger’s official support options. Ledger’s phishing page points users to its official support channels, including support chat. Use the current options shown there rather than contact details supplied by the sender.
  4. Check the actual email address, not just the display name. Ledger’s phishing page lists @ledger.com, @ledgerwallet.com, and @ledger.zendesk.com as authentic email domains. Check Ledger’s live page for the current list; a familiar-looking sender name alone proves nothing.

Official channels and examples can change, so use Ledger’s current phishing guidance as the reference rather than trusting a saved contact or an old screenshot.

What to do if you receive a fake Ledger message

Don’t follow the message’s instructions. Ledger asks users to report impersonation through the dedicated phishing route linked from its phishing page. For purported Ledger texts and calls, Ledger also advises reporting them as spam and blocking the sender. Use the current reporting instructions on that official page rather than copying an address from the suspicious message.

What to do if you shared your recovery phrase

Assume anyone who has the phrase may be able to control the associated assets. Reporting the scam does not secure an exposed phrase. Ledger Support’s guide, last updated August 28, 2026, describes moving remaining assets to a temporary account you control, resetting the device, setting it up as new to generate a new phrase, creating new accounts, and transferring assets back. Its sequence also recommends updating device software. The precise interface depends on the device, so follow the current official instructions—not a link sent by the purported support contact.

  1. Protect remaining assets. Use an account you control as the temporary destination and move the remaining assets there, following Ledger’s official procedure.
  2. Reduce the risk of reusing old accounts. Ledger’s guide recommends removing or renaming emptied old accounts to help prevent accidental reuse.
  3. Reset and set up the device as new. Generate a new recovery phrase and create new accounts; do not reuse the exposed phrase.
  4. Transfer assets to the new accounts. Complete the move using the official instructions for your device. If unsure, reach Ledger through independently accessed official support.

Ledger’s support guide also suggests considering secure storage for a recovery phrase. Any physical backup is optional offline storage, not a way to detect phishing or a substitute for keeping the phrase secret.
