You can’t seek to a moment before the broadcast began, and very long streams or certain devices may limit DVR. If rewind is unavailable, the creator may have disabled it—or YouTube may not support it for that stream or playback setup.
How to rewind or skip while a YouTube stream is live
-
Open the live stream in YouTube’s player.
-
Drag or move the playhead on the seek bar backward to watch an earlier part of the broadcast, if DVR is available. The exact controls vary by device and app, so a single button sequence does not apply everywhere.

To return to the live point, move the playhead forward to the end of the available live playback. You can also pause and resume: YouTube says playback continues from where you paused, subject to the stream’s DVR limits.

Why you may not be able to rewind
DVR is disabled or unavailable
If the playhead will not move backward, DVR may be disabled for the stream. With DVR disabled, viewers cannot seek back during the live broadcast. YouTube also notes that DVR can be limited or unavailable on some streams.
The stream is very long
YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Treat 12 hours as a warning threshold, not a guarantee that rewind will work for every stream shorter than that. Viewers cannot seek to a point before the broadcast began.

Your device or app has a lower DVR limit
YouTube identifies Apple TV, Apple AirPlay, and older app versions as playback environments with lower DVR limits. If rewind is restricted, try a current version of the YouTube app or another supported device and check whether the seek bar offers more playback history there.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can you watch from the beginning after the stream ends?
Possibly. Once a stream ends, a recording may become available on the channel. YouTube says live streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will have an archive, so creators should keep a local recording as a backup. See YouTube Help on archiving live streams.
