To sign in on a computer, open Chrome, select your profile image in the top-right corner, choose Sign in to Chrome, enter your Google Account details, and select Next. Signing in is optional: Chrome can keep bookmarks and other information on the device without saving them to your Google Account for use on other devices.
Sign in to Chrome on a computer
- Open Google Chrome and select the profile image at the top right.
- Choose Sign in to Chrome.
- Enter your Google Account sign-in information and select Next.
A Google Account is required. If you sign in to a Google service in Chrome, you may be prompted to sign in to Chrome too, but you do not have to accept. Google’s instructions are at Chrome Help: Sign in to Chrome.

Choose what Chrome saves to your Google Account
On desktop, open More > Settings > You and Google > your account name, then select Choose what to save in your Google Account. The available controls let you choose categories instead of treating Sync as a single all-or-nothing switch. Labels and routes can differ by Chrome version or device.
Google lists bookmarks, Reading list, passwords, payment information, identity, contact and travel information, extensions, web apps, settings, and preferences among information available in the account experience. Tabs and browsing history can be enabled through the account’s Sync controls. See Chrome Help: Choose what info to sync.

- Intel Celeron N4120: 4 Cores & Threads, 1.1GHz Base Clock, Up to 2.6GHz Boost Clock, 4MB Cache, Intel UHD Graphics 600. The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
- With Chrome sign-in and selected data enabled: account-saved information can be available on other devices where you use the same Google Account.
- Without Chrome sign-in: Chrome can still save bookmarks and other information locally, but that does not save them to your Google Account for cross-device access.
If you use separate work and personal accounts or share a computer, separate Chrome profiles help keep browsing information apart.
Understand the privacy settings behind Sync
Chrome history and Google personalization
Chrome history saved to your Google Account may contribute to personalization in other Google products when Web & App Activity is enabled, including its Chrome subsetting. This is conditional; opening Chrome alone does not mean every history item is automatically used for all Google personalization. Google explains the relationship in its Chrome Sync information.

Passphrase and encryption
Google says information sent to it is encrypted in transit. You can also choose a passphrase for certain synced data so Google cannot read that data. The passphrase does not cover every category: Google’s help notes exclusions in this context, including payment methods and addresses. Check the category and encryption details before relying on a passphrase to protect particular information.

Google points users to chrome.google.com/sync to manage or delete Chrome data already saved to a Google Account. Its desktop sign-in help also provides chrome.google.com/data and a Delete data action. These are Google’s account-data management routes; do not assume that using a deletion control instantly removes every copy or changes other Google Account activity settings.

Sign out or resolve an account prompt
To sign out of Chrome, open the profile menu and select Sign out of Chrome. This is distinct from signing out of a Google service in Chrome. If Chrome reports an account error, Google’s help advises choosing Remove account from Chrome.
When a Google service sign-out causes Sync to pause, use the Verify it’s you prompt and sign in again. Google provides the steps in Chrome Help: Fix issues with Sync.

Work or school account does not allow Sync
An administrator can limit whether a managed Google Account is allowed to save and synchronize browser information. Google’s Admin console instructions place the control at Apps > Additional Google services > Google Chrome Sync, with organization-wide and organizational-unit settings. If a workplace or school account lacks Sync access, contact its administrator rather than treating the restriction as a consumer-account error. See Chrome Enterprise Help: Manage Chrome Sync.
