To put YouTube chat beside your video for viewers, connect YouTube to Streamlabs, then add Talk Studio’s integrated Chat Box widget: open Apps (Shift+P) > Widgets > Connect Streamlabs, switch on Chat Box, and resize it on the canvas. If you only need to read chat while producing, use Talk Studio’s Chat panel (Shift+C) instead; that panel is for the operator, not the stream output.

Connect YouTube and add the Chat Box
- Connect YouTube in Streamlabs. Open your Streamlabs account settings and go to Platforms. Connect the YouTube account that will receive the stream. Streamlabs’ Chat Box guide lists YouTube as a supported platform. [Streamlabs: How to set up a Chat Box]
- Open Talk Studio’s widget controls. In Talk Studio, select Apps or press Shift+P, then open Widgets and choose Connect Streamlabs.
- Enable the overlay. Switch on Chat Box. Select the widget on the main canvas and drag its corners to set its size and position beside the video.
- Adjust what viewers see. In the Streamlabs Dashboard, open All Widgets > Chat Box. Choose the platform and adjust the available appearance controls, including visual style, font color, and font size.
- Check the composition before going live. Make sure the video and chat box are both visible on the canvas and that the chat does not cover important parts of the picture.

Use the right method for your streaming setup
In Talk Studio
Use the integrated Widgets > Connect Streamlabs > Chat Box workflow. You do not need to substitute a browser source when using this documented Talk Studio route.

In other streaming software
Streamlabs documents a separate method for other software: copy the Chat Box widget URL from the Streamlabs Dashboard and add it to that software as a browser source. This is an alternative for software that uses browser sources, not the Talk Studio workflow. [Streamlabs: How to set up a Chat Box]
What viewers can see in an embedded player
YouTube says its native Live Chat feature is available on YouTube watch pages, not embedded players. That limitation concerns YouTube’s own player chat; it is separate from placing Streamlabs’ Chat Box overlay on the Talk Studio stream canvas. [YouTube Help: Learn about live streams]

Troubleshoot a missing or invisible Chat Box
- You cannot find the Chat Box toggle: confirm that you opened Apps > Widgets > Connect Streamlabs in Talk Studio and that the Streamlabs account is connected.
- YouTube chat is not available as a platform: check that YouTube is connected under Streamlabs account settings > Platforms, then revisit All Widgets > Chat Box to check platform selection.
- The widget is enabled but not visible in the composition: select it on the canvas and adjust its position or corners; it may be outside the visible area or too small.
- You can see chat, but viewers cannot: the operator Chat panel and guest private chat are not the audience-facing overlay. Enable the Chat Box widget on the canvas instead.
- The menu labels differ or a control is missing: vendor interfaces and account eligibility can change. Check the current Talk Studio and Streamlabs Dashboard interface and consult Streamlabs’ current help pages.
