What’s actually slowing this PC down?

On Windows 11 builds that include the redesigned context-menu settings, open Settings > Personalization > Context menu and switch Show “Customize menu” on the context menu on or off. The setting controls whether the shortcut appears in the right-click menu; it does not turn the menu’s other commands on or off. The feature began rolling out to Windows Insiders in August 2026, so the setting may not be available on every PC.
Show or hide the shortcut in Settings
- Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
- Select Personalization > Context menu.
- Under Additional options, find Show “Customize menu” on the context menu.
- Switch it On to show the shortcut, or Off to hide it.
The shortcut opens the Context menu page in Settings. The cited WindowsLoop guide describes the Settings toggle as taking effect according to its position; it does not prescribe a restart for this method. WindowsLoop’s instructions

What the “Customize menu” option controls
It controls the visibility of a shortcut to the Context menu settings page—not the contents of the context menu itself. Microsoft describes that page as a place to choose built-in commands and app extensions, arrange common commands, and adjust where Properties appears. Microsoft’s Windows Insider announcement

If the setting is missing
The redesigned context-menu feature was announced as rolling out to Windows Insiders on August 17, 2026. Windows Central reported seeing it in Windows 11 version 26H2 build 26340.9212 in the Experimental channel; that is evidence of preview availability, not a general-release version. The available sources do not establish whether the feature has reached stable-channel Windows 11 releases as of October 4, 2026. Windows Central’s August 19 report

If Personalization > Context menu or the toggle is absent, check your installed Windows build and channel and whether an update offering the feature is available. Do not assume the option exists on every Windows 11 installation.

Third-party tutorials document a registry alternative. Use it only if you are comfortable editing the registry, and back it up before making changes. Microsoft’s announcement does not document this registry path as an official setting or administrative policy.
