How to Share Files Between a Samsung Galaxy and iPhone with Quick Share and AirDrop

A Galaxy does not have AirDrop, but supported Samsung phones can share with nearby iPhones through Quick Share. Learn both transfer directions and what to try if a device is not discoverable.

You can send files between some Samsung Galaxy phones and iPhones using Quick Share and AirDrop interoperability—but a Galaxy phone does not have Apple’s AirDrop feature. For direct transfers, enable Share with Apple devices in Galaxy Quick Share, and set the receiving phone to be discoverable. Availability depends on Galaxy model, software, and market rollout.

What you need to know before sharing

Quick Share is Samsung’s file-sharing feature; AirDrop is Apple’s. On supported Galaxy models, Quick Share can discover nearby Apple devices and exchange files with them. The iPhone still uses its normal AirDrop controls and acceptance prompt.

Google’s current Android guide lists the Galaxy S26, S25, and S24 series, plus select models including the Z Flip7, Z Fold7, Z Flip6, Z Fold6, Z Fold6 Special Edition, and Z TriFold, as compatible: Google’s compatible-device list and instructions. Samsung’s support page, which is dated March 2026, says Apple-device sharing is supported only on the Galaxy S26 series and will expand to select flagship models. Samsung also cautions that availability and timing may vary by market: Samsung’s Quick Share instructions.

Because those official pages differ, do not assume a listed model has the feature in every region. Update the phone and check whether the Apple-device sharing toggle is present in Quick Share settings.

How to send files from a Galaxy phone to an iPhone

  1. Update Quick Share and Google Play services. Samsung’s current guidance specifies Quick Share app version 13.8.51.27 or later and Google Play services version 26.11.xx or later for Apple-device sharing. Availability still depends on model and market.
  2. Turn on Apple-device sharing on the Galaxy. Open Settings → Connected devices → Quick Share, then enable Share with Apple devices.
  3. Make the iPhone discoverable. On the iPhone, go to Settings → General → AirDrop → Everyone for 10 Minutes. Apple also documents changing AirDrop receiving visibility in Control Center. See Apple’s AirDrop guide.
  4. Choose the file on the Galaxy. Open Gallery or My Files, select the item or items, then tap Share → Quick Share.
  5. Select the iPhone and accept. Tap the iPhone when it appears in the nearby-device list. The iPhone owner must accept the incoming AirDrop prompt for the transfer to begin.

How to send files from an iPhone to a Galaxy phone

  1. On the Galaxy, open Settings → Connected devices → Quick Share. Under Who can share with you, select Everyone (10 minutes only). Keep Share with Apple devices enabled.
  2. On the iPhone, open the photo or file, tap Share → AirDrop, and select the Galaxy from the recipient list.
  3. Accept the incoming transfer on the Galaxy. Samsung says the Galaxy’s Everyone visibility expires after its 10-minute window.

What to do if the phones cannot find each other

  • The iPhone does not appear on the Galaxy: Set iPhone AirDrop receiving to Everyone for 10 Minutes, check that both phones are nearby, and confirm Quick Share and Share with Apple devices are on.
  • The Galaxy does not appear on the iPhone: Set the Galaxy’s Quick Share audience to Everyone (10 minutes only) and confirm Apple-device sharing is enabled.
  • The Apple-device toggle is missing: Check Galaxy model support, install available system and app updates, and verify Google Play services. Samsung notes that regional availability and timing can vary; do not install unofficial packages to force the option.
  • Discovery still fails: Samsung says searching may not work while Mobile Hotspot or certain Wi-Fi Direct or Wi-Fi Aware features—including Smart View and DeX—are active. Turn those off, connect to a network, and restart both phones before trying again. Apple also recommends checking Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, receiver visibility, and restarting. Apple’s AirDrop guide gives a proximity guideline of 30 feet (10 meters).

Samsung’s detailed feature and troubleshooting steps are in its Quick Share support guide; Apple’s receiver settings and troubleshooting are covered in its AirDrop guide.

Use a Quick Share link when direct sharing is unavailable

If the Galaxy lacks Apple-device support or the iPhone does not show up, Quick Share’s QR-code or link option can still provide a route to the file. On the Galaxy, select the file and choose Share → Quick Share → QR code or link. The iPhone user can scan the code with Camera and open the download page, or the sender can copy the link and send it by email or messaging app. This method requires Wi-Fi or mobile data; it is separate from direct AirDrop discovery. Google describes the QR workflow on its Quick Share and iPhone page.

Is this the same as moving from Android to a new iPhone?

No. Quick Share and AirDrop are for individual nearby file transfers. Apple’s Move to iOS is a setup-time migration process for moving broader categories of Android content, such as contacts, messages, photos, videos, files, and folders. If iPhone setup is already complete, Apple says you must erase the iPhone and start setup again to use that migration route, or transfer content manually.
