1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor a continuous yoga music stream that does not depend on real-time chat, choose Normal latency. YouTube says Normal is intended for non-interactive streams and offers the least viewer buffering. If you will teach live, take requests, or respond to chat as it happens, consider Low or Ultra-low instead, knowing that shorter delay increases buffering risk and neither setting supports 4K. YouTube Help explains the tradeoffs.
Choose a latency setting for the way you use the stream
Latency is the time between capture and playback. Reducing it can make conversation feel more immediate, but YouTube warns that lower latency can increase buffering. A viewer’s connection can also be affected by network congestion even when it can sustain the stream’s average bitrate.

| Setting | Intended use | Typical latency | Tradeoff and resolution support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal | Non-interactive streams, such as background yoga music | No numerical promise stated in YouTube’s guidance | Lowest viewer buffering; supports all resolutions and live features. |
| Low | Limited interaction, such as polls | Most viewers experience under 10 seconds | More buffering risk than Normal; 4K is unsupported. |
| Ultra-low | Real-time conversation | Most viewers experience under 5 seconds | Greater buffering risk; 4K is unsupported. |
The Low and Ultra-low figures describe what most viewers experience, not a guarantee for every viewer or a promised end-to-end delay for a particular yoga stream. YouTube’s practical guidance is: “If you don’t interact with your audience, higher latency is not a problem.”

For music intended to accompany a yoga session, uninterrupted playback usually matters more than receiving a response a few seconds sooner. Normal is the sensible starting point when viewers are listening rather than conversing with you live.

When to use a lower-latency option
Choose Low if limited interaction, such as polls, is important. Use Ultra-low when you need real-time conversation. If viewers report buffering, or the stream needs 4K, return to Normal and reassess whether that extra immediacy is necessary.
Change latency in YouTube Studio
The manual latency choice is for encoder-based broadcasts. YouTube says webcam and mobile broadcasts are set up for interactivity and do not expose a manual latency selection.

- Analog mixing and equalization for pure sound
- Direct mixing of PC/gaming sounds into the streaming output
- Ultra-low noise analog mixer for streaming, podcasting and recording
- Stereo USB audio interface to connect your computer or mobile device
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go live.
- Enter the stream details, then choose Stream or Manage from the left menu.
- Open Stream settings.
- Under Stream latency, select Normal, Low, or Ultra-low.
The latency selection controls the delay-versus-buffering tradeoff; it does not by itself verify that your audio, encoder, or network is ready for a long broadcast.

YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends CBR bitrate encoding, a two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds), AAC or MP3 audio, and 44.1 kHz stereo audio. It recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrates guidance for the bitrate appropriate to your chosen resolution; bitrate is not set by the latency menu.

- While live, monitor stream health and its messages in YouTube Studio and respond to any warnings.
- Make sure the audio is appropriate to use. A continuous stream does not exempt music from copyright rules; review the copyright safety checklist before broadcasting.
Know what happens to DVR on a continuous stream
DVR lets viewers pause and rewind a live broadcast, then resume from where they paused. They cannot seek to a point before the stream began. For broadcasts longer than 12 hours, YouTube says DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable. Apple TV, Apple AirPlay, and older app versions can face lower limits, so do not promise viewers unlimited rewind on a stream that runs continuously. YouTube Help describes DVR limits.
To change DVR, open the stream dashboard and go to Stream settings > Additional settings. YouTube says DVR can be enabled or disabled while live, but a change affects only viewers who start playback after it is made. Turning DVR off prevents seeking back during the live broadcast; YouTube says viewers can still watch the recording after it becomes available.

Troubleshoot latency and playback problems
- Viewers say the stream is delayed, but playback is smooth: That is expected with Normal latency. If live interaction is essential, try Low or Ultra-low and watch for buffering.
- Viewers report buffering after you lower latency: Lower latency leaves less tolerance for problems between encoder and player. Return to Normal if immediate interaction is not worth the loss of buffering headroom.
- Some viewers still experience delay: YouTube’s latency descriptions are typical experiences for most viewers, not guarantees. Congestion can add delay even when a connection can sustain the average bitrate.
- The latency choice is missing: Check that this is an encoder-based stream. YouTube says webcam and mobile broadcasts do not provide a manual latency selection.
- Viewers cannot rewind far back: DVR may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours, with lower limits possible on Apple TV, Apple AirPlay, or older app versions.
- Audio or video is unstable: Test the actual broadcast setup and review YouTube Studio’s stream-health messages. Confirm the encoder settings against YouTube’s current guidance rather than treating a latency change as a fix for encoding or connection issues.
