To set up YouTube channel memberships, your channel must qualify for YouTube’s fan-funding features and meet the separate membership requirements. In YouTube Studio, open Earn > Memberships > Get started, complete the prompts and accept the Commerce Product Module (CPM) if asked. Then create membership levels and perks, and publish them for YouTube’s review.
Check eligibility before you start
Memberships are a YouTube Partner Program fan-funding feature. You must be at least 18 and live in a country or region where memberships are available. Your channel must also meet YouTube’s membership criteria:

- It must not be set as Made for Kids.
- It must not have a significant number of videos that are Made for Kids or otherwise ineligible. YouTube identifies music-claimed videos as ineligible.
- You and, where applicable, your MCN must accept and comply with YouTube’s applicable terms and policies, including the Commerce Product Module.
Availability varies by location and can change. Check YouTube’s current channel memberships eligibility requirements and location information rather than relying on an old country list.

Turn on channel memberships
On a computer
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Select Earn from the left menu.
- Open Memberships.
- Select Get started and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Accept the CPM if the setup flow asks you to do so.
YouTube says the Memberships tab appears only when the channel is eligible. First-time activation includes the CPM agreement.

In the YouTube Studio mobile app
- Open the YouTube Studio app and tap Earn.
- Tap the Memberships card and follow the prompts. If the card is not visible, YouTube’s Android instructions say to tap Get started in the Memberships section.
- Complete the CPM step if prompted.
After you are accepted into YPP, membership activation may take up to two days while YouTube reviews the channel against the feature’s eligibility criteria. This is an estimate from YouTube’s Help page, not a guaranteed processing time. See YouTube’s mobile setup instructions.
Create membership levels and perks
- In YouTube Studio on a computer, go to Earn > Memberships.
- In the level-and-perk setup box, select Edit.
- Follow the prompts to add levels, set their prices and choose perks.
- Review the benefits at every level, then select Publish.
You can create up to six levels, and each level must have one to five perks. Higher-priced levels include the perks from lower-priced levels, so plan the benefits as a stack: someone joining a higher tier should receive the benefits promised at every tier below it. YouTube reviews levels and perks before they go live; its Help page estimates that review takes about a day. See YouTube’s guide to creating and managing membership levels and perks.

Choose perks you can reliably deliver
YouTube lists digital perks such as badges, posts, custom emoji, members-first videos, live chat and members-only live streams, member milestone chats, a recognition shelf, Shorts and videos. Choose benefits that match what your viewers value and that you can keep providing. YouTube places responsibility for delivering creator perks on the creator, not the platform.
Keep the structure manageable at launch. YouTube suggests considering one to three levels initially, weighing the value of each perk against the work and cost of delivering it, and asking your community what it would value. Add more levels only if they make the offer clearer or more useful.

Set prices and plan the launch
Membership prices can vary by a viewer’s country or region. YouTube says creators may change level prices for new members once every 12 months from the last update; existing members remain at the price at which they joined. Consider how the value of each tier compares with its delivery workload and how localized pricing affects viewers in different regions. See YouTube’s pricing guidance.
Before publishing, prepare the experience as well as the settings. YouTube recommends explaining the offer in an announcement video and an intro video, preparing some members-only content, mentioning membership links in public uploads, and checking in YouTube Studio which levels acquire and retain members. Follow the rules for perks and members-only content
Check YouTube’s current membership policies before promising a benefit. Prohibited examples include downloads of content that is available on YouTube, in-person one-to-one meetings, randomly selected benefits such as competitions or sweepstakes, and perks targeted at or attractive to children.

Members-only videos must be fully original and must not contain copyright-claimed material, including claims from music partners. A video that is suitable for public viewing is not automatically suitable as a members-only perk if it includes claimed material. Review YouTube’s membership policies and eligibility rules before publishing your offer.

Fix common setup problems
The Memberships tab or card is missing
- Confirm that the channel is in YPP and eligible for fan-funding features.
- Check the age and country or region requirements.
- Review whether the channel is set as Made for Kids or has a significant number of ineligible videos.
- Check whether the CPM and other required terms have been accepted.
- If YPP acceptance was recent, allow for YouTube’s stated review period, which may take up to two days for activation.
Feature availability and eligibility can change, so verify the current requirements in YouTube’s Help pages rather than assuming the feature is unavailable permanently.
Levels or perks are not live after publishing
YouTube reviews submitted levels and perks before they go live. Its Help page estimates about a day for review. If a perk is declined or held up, revisit the membership policies and confirm the benefit is permitted and described accurately.

Channel memberships are for offering paid benefits to members; they do not themselves keep a livestream running.
