What WebAdmin does
WebAdmin is the browser-based administration interface included with a Killing Floor 2 dedicated server. It lets an authorized administrator manage the running server without entering every command through the game console. The HTTP service starts and stops with the dedicated-server process, so a WebAdmin page cannot work while the game server itself is stopped.

The service is disabled until you enable it in the active server configuration. On a normal self-hosted installation, that setting is in KFGame/Config/KFWeb.ini, under the [IpDrv.WebServer] section:

Substitute 127.0.0.1 when browsing on the server itself, the server’s private/LAN address for another device on the same network, or a public address when connecting over the internet through a correctly forwarded port.

Ports and network requirements
WebAdmin uses a separate TCP listener from the game and query services. These are the commonly documented defaults:

These are defaults, not a promise that every installation uses them. A hosting panel, a second server on the same machine, or a custom startup script can assign another WebAdmin port. Open and forward only the ports your topology needs. In particular, forwarding TCP 8080 is unnecessary if you will administer exclusively from the server machine or its private network.

- Behind a home or office router: create a TCP port-forward from the selected external port to the server machine’s private IP address.
- Multiple servers on one host: give each process a distinct WebAdmin port and forward each external port to the matching internal port.
- Managed hosting: use the port shown by the provider; the provider may handle the firewall and NAT layer for you.
Self-hosted setup, step by step
1. Install the dedicated-server files and generate configuration
Install or update the Killing Floor 2 dedicated-server files using the distribution you intend to run. Start the server once before editing configuration so that its KFGame configuration tree and profile-specific files are created. Shut the server down cleanly after that first start. Editing while the process is running can be overwritten when the server saves its current settings.
2. Enable the WebAdmin listener
With the server stopped, open the active KFGame/Config/KFWeb.ini. Do not edit a template, an example file, or an unused profile: the file must belong to the instance that your startup script actually launches. Find the [IpDrv.WebServer] section and set:
bEnabled=trueIf the section is absent, add it in the server’s active KFWeb.ini rather than creating a similarly named file elsewhere. Preserve the existing INI syntax and make one change at a time so a typo is easy to identify.
3. Set the administrator password
Set AdminPassword in the platform-specific KFGame server INI used by your installation. A Windows installation may use a PCServer KFGame configuration, while a Linux installation commonly uses a LinuxServer KFGame configuration. The exact profile path depends on the way you installed and launch the server, so verify that the file belongs to the running instance.

?adminpassword=<your-password>When both locations are supplied, a documented community guide reports that the startup value takes precedence over the INI value. That can make an apparently correct password fail at login: inspect the complete launch command before changing files. Prefer storing the password in the protected KFGame INI when possible. Command-line arguments can be exposed to other users through process listings, service-management interfaces, or startup logs.
Use a unique, long password. Do not reuse an operating-system, Steam, or hosting-panel password, and do not paste credentials into a public support post or a shared launch script.
4. Start the server and verify that WebAdmin is listening
Start the dedicated server normally and watch its startup output. You are looking for evidence that the WebAdmin listener initialized on the expected port. The exact log wording varies by server build and launch wrapper; the important checks are that the process remains running and that no “address already in use” or bind error appears.

WebAdmin exists only for the lifetime of this process. Restarting the machine, stopping the server for a map change, or a crash removes the listener until the game server starts again.
5. Test locally before testing the internet path
On the server machine, open:
http://127.0.0.1:8080/WebAdmin/If you selected a custom port, replace 8080 with that port. A local test bypasses the router and most external firewall variables. If the page does not load locally, do not troubleshoot port forwarding yet; first correct the WebAdmin file, port conflict, or server-process problem.
6. Test from the LAN
From another device on the same network, browse to the server’s private IPv4 address, for example http://192.168.1.50:8080/WebAdmin/. Use the address assigned to the server, not the client’s address and not necessarily the public address shown by an internet speed-test site. A local address normally starts with ranges such as 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, or 172.16.x.x through 172.31.x.x.
If localhost works but the LAN address does not, check the host firewall and whether the server is bound only to a loopback interface. Also confirm that the client and server are not separated by a guest-Wi-Fi isolation rule or another VLAN policy.

7. Publish remote access only when needed
For an internet connection, forward the selected WebAdmin TCP port on the router to the server’s fixed private IP and permit the same port in the host firewall. Then use the router’s public address (or a DNS name that resolves to it):
http://<public-address>:8080/WebAdmin/If your internet service uses carrier-grade NAT, inbound forwarding may not be possible even when your local settings are correct. Ask the provider for a reachable public address or keep administration on a VPN/private network instead. Never assume that forwarding the game UDP port also exposes WebAdmin; the browser service is TCP and uses its own port.
Logging in and handling authentication errors
The standard login username documented by community setup material is Admin (capital A). Enter that username and the password currently in force after launch-argument precedence is taken into account.
A browser may display an “invalid form data” message even when the password is correct. One community guide recommends testing HTTP authentication by adding this setting to KFWebAdmin.ini:
bHttpAuth=trueTreat this as a compatibility troubleshooting step, not a setting every server needs. Change it with the server stopped, restart the server, and retest. If the error persists, clear stale browser cookies for the WebAdmin address or use a private browsing window, then verify that you are reaching the intended port and server instance.
Changing the WebAdmin port
Port changes are useful when 8080 is occupied or when several KF2 servers share one host. The exact setting depends on the server build and hosting method, so use the port value exposed by your active configuration or provider panel rather than assuming every INI accepts the same key. After changing a port, update all three places that matter:
- The server or startup configuration that selects the WebAdmin listener.
- The operating-system firewall rule.
- The router/NAT rule, if remote access crosses the internet.
Test the new value locally first, for example http://127.0.0.1:8090/WebAdmin/, before changing public forwarding. Keep a written map of external-to-internal ports when multiple servers are involved; forwarding two external ports to the same internal port is valid only when the router sends each one to a different host or service as intended.

Managed hosting workflow
A managed host usually hides direct firewall and operating-system work behind a control panel. The labels differ, but the sequence is generally:
- Stop the server from the panel.
- Enable the WebAdmin option.
- Note the WebAdmin port assigned to that server.
- Set the panel’s Admin Password field.
- Start the server and open the panel-provided address and port.
For example, a Kinetic Hosting support article updated 16 September 2026 states that its WebAdmin port is assigned automatically and cannot be changed from that Settings tab. In that arrangement, trying to force 8080 in a local INI is the wrong fix; use the assigned value shown by the panel.
Other providers expose a startup variable such as ?WebAdminPort=<PORT>, or combine a hosted properties file with a WebAdmin panel. If the panel offers both a password field and a raw configuration editor, determine which one is authoritative before saving both. A provider may regenerate files on restart, so keep panel-managed settings in the panel rather than repeatedly editing an overwritten file.
Ask the host for the exact public URL, whether TCP access is already allowed, and how to recover a forgotten password. You normally do not need to create a home-router rule for a server that is fully hosted, but you still need to protect the WebAdmin credentials and limit access where the provider offers IP allow-lists or a private management network.
Separate accounts and permissions
For a server administered by more than one person, community documentation describes the WebAdmin.MultiWebAdminAuth authentication class in KFWebAdmin.ini under [WebAdmin.WebAdmin]:

AuthenticationClass=WebAdmin.MultiWebAdminAuthUse the WebAdmin interface to create additional accounts and assign only the permissions each operator needs. Follow the interface’s restart instructions: some authentication changes apply immediately, while configuration-file changes may require a full server restart. Keep one tested administrator account until the new accounts have logged in successfully; deleting or disabling the only working account can leave you locked out.
Separate accounts make it possible to revoke one operator without distributing a shared password and provide a clearer record of who changed a setting. They do not replace network security. An account with limited in-panel rights is still exposed to password guessing if the login page is open to the entire internet.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The page times out on every address
- Confirm the dedicated-server process is running.
- Check that
bEnabled=trueis in the activeKFWeb.ini, not a template or unused profile. - Review startup logs for a listener or port-bind error.
- Test
http://127.0.0.1:8080/WebAdmin/on the server itself. - Check whether another process already occupies TCP 8080; choose a free port if appropriate.
Local access works, but another LAN device cannot connect
- Allow the WebAdmin TCP port through the server host’s firewall.
- Use the server’s private address, not
127.0.0.1from the remote device. - Check Wi-Fi client isolation, VLAN rules, and the server’s current DHCP address.
- Confirm the service is not bound only to loopback.
LAN access works, but internet access fails
- Verify the router forwards TCP, not UDP, and forwards to the correct internal address.
- Permit the same port in the host firewall.
- Test from a genuinely external network; some routers do not support hairpin access to their own public address.
- Check for carrier-grade NAT or a second router creating double NAT.
- Use the provider-assigned port if a managed host controls the listener.
The login says the password is wrong
- Confirm the username is exactly
Admin. - Inspect launch scripts for
?adminpassword=; it may override the INI value. - Check that you edited the KFGame INI used by this server profile.
- Stop the server before changing the password, restart it, and retest in a private browser window.
The form reports invalid data
Clear the site’s cookies, try another browser session, and test bHttpAuth=true in KFWebAdmin.ini as a compatibility measure. If the error appears only through a reverse proxy or nonstandard URL, bypass that proxy and test the native port to isolate the cause.
The setting keeps reverting
Managed panels may regenerate INI files, and startup wrappers may append their own parameters. Make the change in the panel or launch configuration that owns the value, then restart and inspect the resulting command line and file. Editing a generated copy will not survive the next deployment.
Security and maintenance practices
WebAdmin is an administrative control plane, not a public game-information page. Leave it reachable only from networks that need it. If your router supports source restrictions, allow your management IP range rather than the entire internet. A VPN or an SSH tunnel can avoid publishing the WebAdmin port at all.
- Use a unique password and rotate it when an administrator leaves.
- Do not put passwords in world-readable scripts, screenshots, tickets, or shell history.
- Back up
KFWeb.ini, the relevant KFGame INI, and anyKFWebAdmin.iniaccount configuration before upgrades. - Record the selected port and the internal server address so a router replacement does not erase the mapping.
- After an update, repeat the localhost test and verify that the enable flag and password source are still active.
- Monitor logs for repeated authentication failures or unexpected configuration changes.
Do not expose an administrative interface merely because players can reach the game server. The game ports and WebAdmin port have different purposes and protocols; a minimal firewall policy should reflect that separation.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting

Choose self-hosting when you need unrestricted file and mod control and can maintain networking and security. Choose managed hosting when a provider-assigned endpoint, automated operations, or support is more valuable than direct control of the machine. In either case, WebAdmin remains the same basic service: an HTTP listener tied to the running KF2 server.
A reliable first-connection checklist
- Start the server once to generate its configuration, then stop it.
- Set
bEnabled=trueunder[IpDrv.WebServer]in the activeKFWeb.ini. - Set
AdminPasswordin the correct PCServer or LinuxServer KFGame configuration. - Check launch parameters for a conflicting
?adminpassword=value. - Start the server and confirm the listener in the startup output.
- Open
http://127.0.0.1:8080/WebAdmin/locally. - Allow TCP 8080, or the custom/provider-assigned port, through the necessary firewall.
- Test the LAN address before creating an internet port-forward.
- For remote access, forward TCP to the server’s fixed private address and test from outside the LAN.
- Log in as
Admin, then create separate accounts if multiple operators need access.
Following this order isolates configuration, process, local networking, and public routing problems instead of changing several variables at once.
