txAdmin is already bundled with FXServer, so setting it up on RedM does not require downloading a separate resource. Download a current FXServer artifact for Windows or Linux, launch it once without +exec server.cfg, open the panel at the address and one-time PIN printed in the console (normally http://localhost:40120 on the server itself), link the owner’s Cfx.re account, and deploy a RedM-compatible recipe or attach an existing server-data directory.
What you need before starting
Prepare these items before launching FXServer:
- A supported Windows or Linux machine with terminal access or a hosting control panel that can start FXServer.
- A writable directory reserved for the FXServer artifact and server data.
- A Cfx.re account for the server owner.
- A server registration key from the Cfx.re Portal.
- Database connection details if your chosen RedM framework uses a database.
- Permission to configure the host firewall, network interface, and port forwarding when self-hosting.
Back up any existing server-data directory and the txData directory before changing a working installation. Keep the registration key, setup PIN, owner backup password, and database credentials private.

Understand the parts of a txAdmin RedM installation
FXServer and txAdmin
FXServer is the runtime. txAdmin is the web-based administration panel included with that runtime; it is not a separate resource that you add to a resource folder. Starting FXServer starts txAdmin as part of the same installation.

Your resources, game settings, endpoints, permissions used by the game, and secrets are normally defined in server.cfg or files included by it. txAdmin stores its own operational data, including panel accounts and deployment information, in its txData location.

RedM game targeting
txAdmin can manage different Cfx.re game targets. A RedM deployment must target Red Dead Redemption 2 rather than Grand Theft Auto V. Where the setup environment exposes a game-name setting, use TXHOST_GAME_NAME=redm. The resulting configuration should also contain set gamename rdr3 and the RDR2 build required by the selected RedM configuration. Check the current recipe and configuration rather than assuming a recipe intended for another game is compatible.
Choose your deployment path
txAdmin gives you two fundamentally different ways to create a server. Select the path before running a recipe because a new deployment can write files into its target directory.

For a first deployment, use a recommended recipe that explicitly supports RedM. For an established server, attach the existing server-data directory instead of deploying a recipe over it.
Download and launch FXServer
1. Download a current artifact
Obtain a current recommended FXServer artifact from the official Cfx.re server setup resources. Extract it into a dedicated, writable directory. Avoid installing into a location where the service account cannot create files. Keep the artifact directory separate from your server-data directory so runtime updates and game content are easier to manage.
2. Start the runtime without a configuration argument
The first launch must allow txAdmin to enter its setup flow. Do not append +exec server.cfg on this initial start.
- On Windows, open the extracted artifact directory and run
FXServer.exefrom a terminal or your startup control. - On Linux, change to the artifact directory and run
./run.sh. - Leave the console open and wait for the txAdmin URL and one-time setup PIN to appear.
If you start FXServer with +exec server.cfg immediately, the normal first-run txAdmin flow may not appear. After setup, txAdmin can start the server using the configuration you selected.

Open txAdmin and create the owner account
1. Use the address printed in the console
On the same machine, the default panel address is http://localhost:40120. The default txAdmin panel port is TCP 40120. Use the exact URL shown by your console if the host, interface, or port differs.

Open the panel URL in a browser and enter the PIN printed by FXServer. The PIN connects the browser setup session to the running instance.
3. Link the owner’s Cfx.re account
Complete the Cfx.re account-linking step for the person who will own and administer the server. txAdmin then creates the master account. Store the owner backup password in a password manager and do not share the owner login with moderators or developers.
4. Create individual staff access later
After the server is running, add separate staff accounts in txAdmin and assign only the permissions each person needs. Individual accounts make it possible to revoke access or audit actions without changing the owner account.
Deploy a new RedM server with a recipe
1. Select the RedM environment
In the setup flow, choose RedM when the environment or game-name option is available. The relevant host setting is TXHOST_GAME_NAME=redm. Do not continue with a Grand Theft Auto V recipe simply because it appears first in the list.

Recipes are YAML task documents. A recipe can create folders, download resources, write configuration, install dependencies, and execute database tasks. Choose one that identifies RedM support and matches your intended framework.

3. Read the recipe before running it
Open the recipe source and inspect its tasks. Confirm:
- Which repositories and releases it downloads.
- Whether it creates, alters, or drops database tables.
- Which database engine and connection format it expects.
- Which FXServer version or build it requires.
- Whether it installs framework dependencies, voice resources, maps, or other large packages.
- Which variables it writes to
server.cfg.
Back up production files and databases before applying any recipe to an existing environment. A recipe is executable deployment logic, not merely a list of recommended resources.
4. Supply registration and database values
Enter the server registration key when prompted. If the framework requires a database, use the host, port, database name, username, and password supplied by your database administrator or provider. Verify that the account has the permissions the recipe expects.
5. Deploy into an empty target
For a new server, choose an empty directory. Let txAdmin complete its tasks, then inspect the generated configuration before starting the game server. Do not assume a successful file download means every resource or database task completed correctly.
Attach an existing RedM server
- Choose the existing-server option in the txAdmin setup flow.
- Point it to the directory containing your existing server-data files.
- Select the correct
server.cfg, including any included configuration files it depends on. - Verify that the path is readable and writable by the account running FXServer.
- Check that the configuration targets RedM with
set gamename rdr3and contains the required RDR2 build setting. - Review endpoints, resource paths, dependencies, and secrets before pressing Start.
Attaching a server does not repair missing resources or convert an incompatible framework. It gives txAdmin control over the server you already have.
Review the generated RedM configuration
Game and build settings
Confirm that the configuration targets RedM, not GTA V. A RedM-specific setup uses set gamename rdr3 and an enforced RDR2 build. The exact build requirement can change with the recipe or framework, so use the value maintained by that project.

Endpoints and ports
Typical self-hosted game endpoints use TCP and UDP port 30120. The txAdmin panel normally uses TCP port 40120. These are defaults, not guarantees: managed hosts may allocate different ports, and a provider’s firewall or proxy may control which ports are exposed.

Check both the generated endpoint lines and the host firewall. If your provider assigns another game port, use that assigned value rather than forcing 30120.
Resources and dependencies
Check every resource listed in the startup configuration, including resources loaded through included files. A missing dependency can stop a framework from initializing even when FXServer itself launches.
Secrets
Look for registration keys, database passwords, API tokens, and other credentials in the generated files. Keep them out of public repositories and restrict file permissions on Linux. Rotate a secret if it has been exposed in a console log, paste, repository, or support ticket.

Use the right configuration layer for each job:

Do not put txAdmin host environment variables in server.cfg; that file is read too late to control how the panel itself starts. txAdmin version 8 documentation marks older txAdminPort, txAdminInterface, and txDataPath ConVars as deprecated. Prefer the current TXHOST_* environment-variable approach when configuring a new installation.
Start and administer the server
- Save the reviewed configuration and return to the txAdmin dashboard.
- Start the server from txAdmin rather than launching a second FXServer process manually.
- Watch the live console for resource errors, database connection failures, and missing dependencies.
- Connect with a RedM client using the configured game endpoint.
- Create individual staff accounts and assign permissions by role.
- Configure scheduled restarts and moderation tools only after confirming that the base server starts cleanly.
Keep the artifact directory, server-data directory, and txData backups distinct. Before upgrading an artifact, recipe, framework, or database schema, stop the server and create a dated backup of each relevant location.
Self-hosted versus managed hosting

Managed hosting can remove operating-system and networking work, but verify that the service supports RedM, permits the recipe or framework you need, exposes the controls required by txAdmin, and explains backup, firewall, and database policies. You still need to review recipes and protect credentials.

Troubleshoot the first launch
The panel does not load
- Confirm FXServer is still running and that the console printed a txAdmin URL.
- Try
http://localhost:40120from the server itself when using the default port. - Check whether the panel is bound to another interface or port through the host environment settings.
- Open the configured TCP panel port in the host firewall only when remote access is required.
- Confirm that you launched FXServer from the extracted artifact directory and that the process can write to its data path.
The setup PIN is not visible
Stop duplicate FXServer processes, start the artifact again from its own directory, and watch the complete console output. The initial launch should not include +exec server.cfg. Use the PIN associated with the currently running instance.
A recipe fails
Inspect the first failed task rather than the final cascade of errors. Frequent causes include an unavailable repository, a transient network failure, a GitHub rate limit, invalid database credentials, or insufficient filesystem permissions. Correct the underlying cause, restore from backup if files or tables were changed, and rerun only after reviewing what the task already completed.
The server starts but players cannot connect
- Verify that the configured game endpoint uses the provider-assigned address and port.
- Check both TCP and UDP rules for the usual 30120 endpoint when self-hosting.
- Confirm that the host firewall and router forward the same port configured in the server.
- Ensure the RedM game name, RDR2 build, resources, and dependencies are valid.
A framework cannot connect to its database
Recheck the database host, port, database name, username, and password entered during deployment. Confirm network access from the FXServer host and the database account’s privileges. Do not publish credentials in logs or configuration repositories.
