Set up Streamlabs alerts in the Streamlabs dashboard: open Streaming essentials > Alert Box, customize the events and sounds you want, save, add the Alert Box to your streaming software, then test it before going live. Choose the integration that matches your software: a native source in Streamlabs Desktop, the Streamlabs plugin in OBS, or a browser source URL in other software.
1. Link the platform you stream on, if needed
- Sign in to Streamlabs and open your profile menu.
- Choose Account Settings > Platforms, then use the merge option for the platform you want to connect.
Streamlabs recommends linking accounts if you stream on multiple platforms. Menu labels can change as the dashboard is updated. Streamlabs’ quick guide and its detailed alert setup guide describe the account-linking flow.
2. Open Alert Box and set its general behavior
- In the dashboard’s left navigation, open Streaming essentials > Alert Box.
- Set an alert delay if you want one. Streamlabs’ quick guide recommends a delay of 2–5 seconds.
- Optionally enable Alert Moderation to require approval before an alert appears. Streamlabs describes Unlimited moderation as giving you more time to approve alerts than regular moderation.
Delay and moderation are optional choices, not prerequisites for an alert to work. Use moderation if you need to review alerts before they appear on stream.
3. Customize alerts for the events you want
- Select the platform and event—for example, follows or subscriptions—in Alert Box settings.
- Choose or upload the event’s image and sound. Streamlabs says its Alert Box is free and that users can use its provided designs and sounds or upload assets; an optional Ultra upgrade unlocks the full Streamlabs library, but is not required to configure alerts.
- If you want different alerts for different cases, add a variation and set the condition that triggers it. For example, a variation can be tied to a particular milestone.
- Save your settings before moving to another menu item.
Make sure the event is enabled if you expect it to display. To disable an event across integration types, use that event’s Enabled toggle.

4. Add the Alert Box to your streaming software
Use one integration route—the one that matches your streaming software.
Streamlabs Desktop
- Open your scene and find Sources.
- Click the plus button, choose Alert Box, and add the source.
OBS with the Streamlabs plugin
- Open Streamlabs in OBS and choose Widgets.
- Add Alert Box.
- Repeat for each scene where the alerts should appear.
OBS without the plugin, or other streaming software
- Copy the Widget URL from the Streamlabs dashboard.
- In your streaming software, add a browser source and use that URL.
Streamlabs’ setup guide documents these three routes. Its event-filtering controls apply to Widget URLs used as browser sources; they do not change the Alert Box source in Streamlabs Desktop or the Streamlabs OBS plugin. For those integrations, turn an event on or off with its Enabled toggle instead.

5. Test alerts before going live
- For a basic test, open the dashboard’s test menu and trigger the alert you want to check.
- To check a specific variation, use Test Variation on that variation.
- You can also use the documented test controls in Streamlabs Desktop or the OBS plugin.
- Confirm the alert appears in the intended scene and that its image and sound are right. If you use a browser source, check the source in the scene where it is placed.
Troubleshooting
- An alert does not appear: Check that the event is enabled, that the Alert Box is added to the active scene using the right integration route, and that the settings were saved. Trigger a dashboard test to distinguish a widget setup issue from an event that has not occurred.
- A variation does not play: Confirm its condition is set for the event you are testing, then use that variation’s Test Variation control.
- Filtering in the dashboard has no effect: Streamlabs documents event filtering for Widget URLs added as browser sources. Use the event’s Enabled toggle to control an event across the native Streamlabs Desktop and plugin integrations.
- Alerts need approval before appearing: Review the Alert Moderation setting. If approval is required, an alert will not appear until it is approved; Streamlabs says Unlimited moderation provides more approval time than regular moderation.
- An alert is missing in one scene: Check that the source is present in that scene. Streamlabs’ OBS plugin instructions say to add the widget separately to each scene that needs it.
