To control a Windows PC from a Samsung Galaxy tablet, install Microsoft Windows App on the tablet and add the PC as a PC connection. The tablet is the remote client; the Windows computer is the host that must be switched on, configured to accept remote connections, and reachable over the network.
Before you start: check the Windows PC
On the Windows computer you want to control, open Settings > System > Remote Desktop and turn on Remote Desktop. Note the PC name shown in the connection information. Make sure the Windows account you intend to use is allowed to connect; administrators have access by default, while other users can be granted access in Remote Desktop settings. Keep the PC awake while you expect to connect. A computer that is asleep or hibernating cannot accept a remote connection. Also confirm compatibility for your particular Windows edition and Galaxy tablet; the steps below describe Microsoft’s current Android app workflow, but not every PC or device configuration is necessarily supported.

Install Windows App on the Galaxy tablet
- On the tablet, open Google Play and install Windows App.
- Open Windows App. Microsoft’s Windows App connection guide documents this Android flow.
Add and connect to your PC
- In Windows App, tap the plus button, then choose PC connection.
- Tap PC Name, enter the Windows PC’s hostname or IP address, and save the connection.
- You can add an account in the app, or enter your credentials when prompted. Use an account authorized on the host PC.
- Tap the saved PC to start connecting. Read the prompt asking you to confirm that you trust the remote PC before continuing.
- Allow access to tablet resources only if the session needs them. Android may separately ask for permissions such as files, camera, microphone, or location; choose according to what you plan to do.
Connecting from outside your home or office
A PC name that works on the same local network may not be reachable from a different network. For access from outside, ask your organization’s IT or network administrator for its approved remote-access method and, if applicable, the correct RD Gateway and account details. Microsoft describes RD Gateway as a way to reach a computer on a private network from an external network; its previous-version Android client documentation covers gateway configuration and PC names. Do not expose a PC directly to the internet as a workaround.

Fix common connection problems
The PC name does not work or the connection cannot find the PC
- Check that you entered the host name or IP address correctly.
- Confirm the tablet can reach the PC’s network and, when using a hostname, that the name resolves on that network.
The PC refuses the connection or sign-in fails
- On the PC, verify that Remote Desktop is turned on and the account you are using is authorized.
- Check that the credentials belong to an account the host accepts, then try again.
It connects at home but not on another network
Ask the network or IT administrator which gateway or other approved remote-access route to use. A private-network PC may require an RD Gateway for external access; the correct configuration depends on the organization or network.
The session drops when you leave the PC unattended
Review the host’s sleep and hibernation settings. Windows cannot accept a connection while the PC is asleep or hibernating.

Remote Desktop is different from DeX and Second Screen
Windows App connects the Galaxy tablet to a Windows PC so you can control that remote computer. Samsung DeX gives supported Galaxy devices a desktop-like interface for apps running on the tablet, and Second Screen lets some Galaxy tablets act as a display for a Windows PC. Neither feature is the Windows App remote-PC setup described here. Samsung explains DeX in its Galaxy tablet DeX guide and Second Screen in its Second Screen guide.
A Bluetooth keyboard is optional, not a requirement for Windows App. It can make extended typing easier; Samsung’s DeX guide also describes Bluetooth keyboard use with DeX.
