Use Telegram’s built-in paid invite link: create a new link in your channel’s invite-link settings and turn on Require Monthly Fee. Subscribers pay in Telegram Stars, and the subscription renews monthly from their Stars balance. You do not need a bot for this channel-membership setup.
Set up a paid invite link
- Open your Telegram channel’s Channel Settings.
- Go to Channel Type > Manage Invite Links.
- Select Create a New Link.
- Enable Require Monthly Fee, then follow the prompts to configure and create the link.
- Share that paid link with the people you want to invite.
Telegram gave this setup path in its August 14, 2024 feature announcement. The exact menu wording may differ by client version or platform; Telegram’s announcement documents the path, but it does not establish that every app presents identical labels.

How recurring billing works
The native channel link charges in Telegram Stars, not directly to a payment card. Telegram’s subscription API documentation specifies a 30-day period (30 × 24 × 60 × 60 seconds) and says the subscriber’s Stars are automatically debited at renewal. The cited documentation does not establish a particular cash value or payout rate for channel subscriptions.

Renewals draw from the subscriber’s Stars balance. Telegram documents a prompt when the balance is too low to cover upcoming renewals; the subscriber needs to add Stars to maintain the subscription.

Cancellation and leaving the channel
Telegram describes cancellation as turning off auto-renewal: access for the current paid period continues until it ends. If a subscriber leaves while that subscription period is still active, Telegram documents a way for the person to rejoin without paying again for the period already covered.
Do you need a bot, Stripe, or PayPal?
No bot is needed to charge for access through Telegram’s native paid invite link. That feature is distinct from building a bot or mini app with a custom digital service or purchase flow.

For digital goods and services sold inside Telegram apps, Telegram requires Stars; its bot payment documentation says third-party payment providers or other currencies cannot be used for those in-app sales. The cited materials do not establish Stripe, PayPal, or another external card processor as an alternative for the native channel subscription.
Telegram’s Stars announcement distinguishes these digital sales from physical products, which continue to use supported payment providers. That physical-goods route is not a way to bill for Telegram channel access.

Telegram’s June 6, 2024 Stars announcement said more than 400 million users interacted with bots and mini apps each month at the time. That was a launch-era figure, not a current user count, and it does not change the choice for straightforward channel membership: use the native paid link.
