Conan Exiles RCON is enabled in the server’s Game.ini file, under a [RconPlugin] section. Set a private password and TCP port, launch the dedicated server, permit that port through the host firewall, and connect with an RCON client such as mcrcon. The default RCON port is TCP 25575, but you can choose another port if every firewall rule and client uses the same value.

What Conan Exiles RCON does
RCON (remote console) provides remote administrative access to a running Conan Exiles dedicated server. Instead of opening the game server console locally, you authenticate from another computer and send commands over TCP. This is useful for an administrator who needs to inspect the server, run supported console commands, or manage a server without logging into the host machine.

The in-game password is configured in ServerSettings.ini and is used to grant admin powers to a player inside the game. RCON has its own password, listener, and network port in Game.ini. Keep the two secrets separate.
Conan Exiles also has a separate BattlEye BE RCon system. Conan RCON sends commands to the Conan server and is configured with [RconPlugin]. BE RCon is BattlEye’s administration interface for player and ban operations, with a different configuration file and command set. The distinction matters because a client connected to one system cannot issue commands belonging to the other.

Ports used by the dedicated server
Funcom’s dedicated-server documentation lists these default ports. Only the RCON service is needed for a remote console connection; the other ports support ordinary game and server-query traffic.

The RCON protocol uses TCP, not UDP. A firewall rule that allows UDP 25575 will not make RCON reachable. If you change RconPort, use the new TCP value in the host firewall, cloud security group, router forwarding rule, and RCON client.

For a self-hosted Windows server, install the official “Conan Exiles Dedicated Server” tool through Steam:
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Change the library filter to Tools.
- Find Conan Exiles Dedicated Server and install it.
- Wait for Steam to finish downloading the server files before editing configuration files.
The following paths refer to the Windows server configuration supplied by the dedicated-server tool. The exact root folder depends on where Steam installed the tool, but the relative configuration directory is ConanSandboxSavedConfigWindowsServer.
Configure the server before enabling RCON
Set the public server name and game password
Open ConanSandboxSavedConfigWindowsServerEngine.ini. Under the [OnlineSubsystem] section, set the server name and the password players must enter to join. Preserve any existing settings in the file; add only the keys required for your server.

ServerPassword=YOUR_GAME_PASSWORDUse a game password that is different from the RCON password. The game password is shared with players who need to join, while the RCON secret grants administrative access.

Set the in-game administrator password
Open ConanSandboxSavedConfigWindowsServerServerSettings.ini. In the [ServerSettings] section, add or change the administrator password:

AdminPassword=YOUR_DESIRED_ADMIN_PASSWORD_HEREThis setting controls in-game admin privileges. It does not enable RCON and does not replace RconPassword.
Enable Conan RCON in Game.ini
Open ConanSandboxSavedConfigWindowsServerGame.ini. Add a section named [RconPlugin] with the three essential settings:

RconPort=25575What each setting means
RconEnabled=1turns on the Conan RCON listener.RconPasswordis the secret the client must supply. Use a long, unique value that is not used for Steam, the game, the operating system, or any other service.RconPortselects the TCP listening port. The documented default is25575; you may omit the line when the default is acceptable, but specifying it makes the intended configuration explicit.
Do not include spaces around the equals sign, and do not surround the password with quotation marks unless the server documentation for your particular build requires them. Keep a backup of the file so an update or accidental edit can be reversed.

Enable RCON with launch arguments instead
The same RCON values can be passed when starting the server. From the dedicated-server installation directory, use:
ConanSandboxServer.exe -RconEnabled=1 -RconPassword=REPLACE_WITH_A_UNIQUE_SECRET -RconPort=25575Launch arguments are useful when a host uses a scripted startup process or when you want a deployment-specific secret without changing a shared configuration file. Do not configure conflicting values in multiple places without knowing which source your server build gives precedence to. If the values disagree, the running process and its logs are the authority: connect using the port and password actually accepted by that process.
Start the dedicated server
Start the server with either the supplied StartServer.bat file or directly with ConanSandboxServer.exe. The server must be running before an RCON client can connect. If you edit Game.ini while the server is running, stop it cleanly and start it again so the RCON settings are loaded during startup.
Watch the startup console for errors, especially malformed INI sections, invalid launch arguments, or a port that is already in use. A successful game-server startup does not by itself prove that the RCON listener is reachable from another machine; network and firewall checks are still required.
Open and restrict the RCON network path
RCON is remote administrative access, so exposing it broadly creates a direct path to server control. Configure the narrowest network rule your hosting environment supports.

- Allow TCP on the selected RCON port, normally 25575.
- On a private LAN, permit only the administrator’s management subnet or computer.
- On an internet-facing host, restrict the source address to a fixed administrative IP when possible.
- If the server is behind a router, forward the selected TCP port to the dedicated-server machine, not to a different internal host.
- For cloud hosting, add the port to the instance firewall and the provider’s security-group or network-access rule.
- Do not publish the RCON password in a server listing, startup screenshot, support ticket, or shared configuration archive.
If you change the port from 25575, update every layer together. A correct Game.ini entry cannot overcome a router forwarding rule or firewall rule that still points to the old port.
Connect with mcrcon
The Conan Exiles RCON reference demonstrates the mcrcon command-line client. From the computer that will administer the server, run:
mcrcon.exe -c -t -H SERVER_IP -P 25575 -p YOUR_RCON_PASSWORDReplace the connection values

-cand-toptions are the flags shown in the documented mcrcon example; retain them when following that invocation.
After authentication, enter:
helphelp asks the running server to display the commands it accepts. Treat that response as the authoritative list for your server version and installed mods. Command availability can change between server versions and mods, and the Conan RCON reference notes that a fuller command catalogue is not guaranteed.
Conan RCON and BattlEye BE RCon are different systems
Many failed setup attempts come from configuring BattlEye while trying to connect to Conan RCON, or from sending a BattlEye command to the Conan console. Use the following distinction when diagnosing a server.

BattlEye’s documentation describes its workflow as connecting via BE RCon and entering commands in the console. That workflow does not enable the Conan [RconPlugin] listener. Decide which administration system you need before choosing a port, configuration file, and client.
Useful command workflow
Start with discovery
Once connected to Conan RCON, run help first. Record the response for your server build, because a command shown in a guide may not exist on your version or may be added by a mod.

Send one command at a time
Issue a single command, wait for the response, and verify the result in the game or server console before sending another administrative action. This makes it easier to identify a typo, an unsupported command, or a permission-related failure.
Use BE RCon for BattlEye operations
If your goal is to list connected players, kick or ban a BattlEye client, inspect BattlEye’s version, or send a BattlEye chat message, connect to BE RCon using its BEServer(_x64).cfg settings. Those commands are not evidence that Conan RCON is working.
Read the logs when a command fails
The Conan Exiles RCON reference identifies two files in the server’s Logs folder:
RconCommandLog.logrecords RCON commands.ConanSandbox.logrecords server activity, including connection-related information.
Check the timestamps immediately after a connection attempt. If no RCON entry appears, the request may not have reached the Conan listener, which points to an incorrect address, port, firewall rule, router forwarding rule, or disabled listener. If the connection is recorded but the command has no visible effect, compare the command with the output of help and check whether a mod or server version changes its behavior.

Troubleshoot connection and authentication problems
“Connection refused” or a timeout
- Confirm the server process is running and was restarted after the RCON configuration was edited.
- Open the active
Game.iniand verifyRconEnabled=1. - Verify that the client port exactly matches
RconPort; if the line is omitted, test the documented default, TCP 25575. - Check the host operating-system firewall for an inbound TCP rule on that port.
- Check router forwarding or cloud security rules when the client is outside the server’s local network.
- Confirm that
SERVER_IPis the address appropriate to the network path: private address on the LAN, public address from the internet. - Inspect
ConanSandbox.logfor startup or bind errors and check whether another process already occupies the selected port.
Authentication fails
- Compare the client password with
RconPasswordcharacter by character. - Check that the client is connecting to the Conan listener rather than a BE RCon port.
- Ensure an old password is not being supplied by a saved script, environment variable, or terminal history.
- Change the secret in one place, restart the server, and test again if you cannot prove which configuration source is active.
The connection works but commands do nothing
- Run
helpand use only commands reported by the running server. - Check
RconCommandLog.logto confirm that the command reached Conan RCON. - Look for version or mod-specific behavior; command sets are not guaranteed to be identical across installations.
- If the command concerns kicking, banning, or BattlEye status, reconnect through BE RCon and use its documented command namespace.
Operational security checklist
- Use a long, unique RCON password and keep it separate from the game and in-game admin passwords.
- Expose only the selected TCP RCON port, not an unrestricted range of ports.
- Restrict source addresses whenever your firewall, router, or hosting provider allows it.
- Remove temporary broad firewall rules after testing.
- Store configuration backups so you can restore a known-good port and password arrangement.
- Review
RconCommandLog.logafter unexpected administrative activity. - Rotate the RCON secret if it appears in a public log, shared archive, screenshot, or command history.
- Keep Conan RCON and BE RCon credentials and port records clearly labelled to prevent administering the wrong service.

When to use each administration method
Use Conan RCON when you need the Conan server’s own console commands from a remote computer. Use the in-game administrator password when you are already playing and need the permissions exposed by the game’s admin tools. Use BattlEye BE RCon when you specifically need BattlEye’s player, ban, or protection commands. Keeping those roles separate prevents most port, password, and command-namespace mistakes.
